This video really convinced me I could do this myself in 10 minutes. Thanks!!!Threw away the 5 page instructions printed out. Got a T20 bit and paid $200 for the mirror from local SoCal Dealer and accomplished this on my wife’s 2023 RAV4 XLE gas. Simple unscrew and slide the mirror off to the left. Then a couple of tries putting the new mirror into the right position to slide to the right and screw in. Programming it to my Liftmaster Garage was also very easy. Instructions in the box were clear. Keep in mind this mirror is powered by an approximately 10 year non serviceable battery according to the manual. There are absolutely no other frills to this mirror so don’t expect more than a mirror that opens your garage door. Enjoy.

Installed this on my 2024 RAV4 Premium XLE Hybrid. The dealer told me ~ $400 to replace the installed standard mirror. I found the Homelink mirror online for about $115 and used these steps to replace the standard mirror in less than 5 minutes. One suggestion: Program the mirror before installing, just to make sure it works the way you expect.
@pb3030
@pb3030 2 года назад
I just replaced the mirror on my 2021 Rav4. A few points: 1. You cannot unscrew the mirror and slide it out without removing the covers. 2. The entire outer cover will pop off if you slide it forward. But it will be trapped onto the mirror. 3. The inner cover is a real handful. You either need a special tool or you need to remove the outer cover and depress the inner cover retention tabs from the inside. This is what I did. Here's a process that will work: 1. Loosen the torx screw a few turns until the mirror will slide around. 2. Slide the outer cover forward till it pops off. It will be dangling from the mirror. 3. Slide the mirror to the rear and the whole assembly will come off, housing trapped on the mirror. 4. Depress the tabs and remove the inner cover to separate housing from mirror. 5. Install new mirror. 6. Slide the outer housing on (to the rear) 7. Slide the inner housing on (forward) If you knew all this to start with it would take you all of 5 minutes.

Great info. Sounds like the '21 is *just* different enough to require the cover removal. That whole cover assembly is so fragile feeling and the replacement process is needlessly finicky. Great job and thanks for sharing and watching.

The female mount on the mirror is wider than the opening in the round black plastic cover mounted to the windshield. You may get lucky and force it out without breaking the cover .. or maybe not. Your chances of success are 100% if you take a moment to remove the cover before removing the installation screw on the existing mirror.

The new mirror seems to have a manual tilt tab on it but you mention that its auto dimming. What is that tab for? Oh and I assume since there was no wiring connection that there must be batteries to replace.
@DIYDaveOK
@DIYDaveOK 3 года назад
Hi! The unit has batteries that are supposed to last ten-plus years. I was curious about the tab as well, because we've not had to adjust it at all in evening driving. I think it is perhaps a "gross" dim adjustment in case the autodimming isn't to your liking. Thanks so much for watching!!

@@DIYDaveOK Thanks for the reply. I just picked up a 2021 Rav4 and even though its an XLE AWD Premium it still has the generic old school mirror. Apparently you need to add another package for $2835 to get the Homelink mirror. Ouch! So I think I'll be getting the mirror you got or maybe a Gentek with auto dim and a compass. Although that one does require finding a power source to tap into. Cheers!

No, it is entirely self-contained with a ten-year battery. No connection to the vehicle wiring at all.
