In this video, I try and explain what ev mode button does in a Toyota hybrid and why it might be a marketing gimmick. Post comments if you have found good use cases.
If the hybrid battery is charged and you go easy on the pedal the engine won't come on. If the battery is low and you're just sitting there the engine will come on to charge the battery. The EV mode does not seem to do much. Maybe EV favors keeping the engine off a little, but I cannot notice any difference.
