What is that you're doing immediately after you finish soldering? Also, the clock in my 98 Toyota RAV4 a couple weeks ago began illuminating somewhat weaker whenever I'm sitting in the car with the engine off listening to the radio. The illumination will be weaker on either side of the numbers but slightly stronger in the middle. However, when I start the car, the illumination is at full strength. Any idea what might be causing that?

Maybe you can help me : I have a digital clock in my 1990 car,and it's unable to keep the hour i set on it. During the night, looks like it's resetting itself and restarting later on. What could do that ? the battery is good on the car.

Did you check all your fuses? It sounds like your keep alive circuit is dead.

@@AutomotiveCircuitSolutions It's an old car, there is no "keep alive" fuse system. I just have a fuse for both the clock and dome lightbulb together, and the clock is working,it's just unable to stay to the correct time. Maybe it's sensitive to voltage drop during the night or something similar ? I just remember that sometimes it comes alive after the car is started for few minutes and blink ,then switch on correctly without blinking. A capacitor maybe ?

@@michaelovitch whats the year make and model? I'll look at a wiring diagram. They should have a keep alive wire or else it will reset with each ignition cycle

@@AutomotiveCircuitSolutions I think you are right. I looked at the wiring diagram on the car's manual, and there are two + wires going to the clock : One straight to it via a plug connector, and one other passing through the ignition key barrel/contactor and the autoradio before going to the clock. Their ground is next to the pedals. I will look tomorrow, maybe the connector is not ok,the ground should be ok,the radio is working. It's a 1990 renault 21 gts 1.7 with analog dashboard,i doubt you have the wiring on this thing. ?

Hi, I fixed it. I re-soldered all connections on the board, and it's working normally now. Looks like it worked, but at a specific moment, certainly with temperature change, it lost power, wich would explain why it worked and didn't so erratically. Thank you for your help.

No, that is just the color the VFD display emits.
