All those people over the years that argued for Toyota and legacy brands, saying their 100 year old experience, well seasoned engineering prowess, nearly unlimited resources, well established supply chain, and vastly superior operations can do anything, even outdo, and beat Tesla at their own game. Literally everyone of them claimed with 1000% certainty that the first EV produced by any legacy automaker will embarrass and kill Tesla. Right along with EVs are just a fad that will simply disappear and hydrogen fuel cells will take its place indefinitely. Every year for the last two decades every closed minded buffoon has been making such claims. Yet here we are today and the reality is quite the opposite with no signs of reversing. I’m sure in another decade or so when Tesla is the number one US automaker or biggest company ever for at least a few years already, there will still be ignorant haters claiming the one of the legacy brands will come back better than ever with hydrogen fuel cell vehicle onslaught that will finally destroy Tesla as promised every year beforehand. For some people, old habits die hard. Specially when it comes to being ignorant of reality.

Would probably do well in Aus. Toyota still has a lot of brand loyalty here. That’s been eroded a lot in recent years by Kia/Hyundai bringing competing cars to market with better tech and minus the Toyota premium, maybe not. Maybe if they had paid attention to the market and let go of hybrids and hydrogen they might of brought a quality EV to market last year or the year before. Aussie’s would be buying Toyota EV’s from there local dealers (known and safe), instead of ordering BYD’s (unknown Chinese brand) from the internet (feels risky).
@geroutathat
@geroutathat Год назад
Yeah but toyota have loyalty because reliable and low maintenance costs. Lets say its 22k, then a typical toyota should cost 2k in maintenance over 10 years. Thats new tires, bulbs, window wipers, the lot. Byd comes in higher than that so they would have to be careful where they release. In some regions all they have is their cheap cost.

Toyota and Subaru EV have proven to be not efficient at all and most are sold to believers that did not get the fact that this Japanese company is like Nokia fading away. Even if their next models are made in China by FAW. Hongqi e.g. is lot of vaporware to the moment and the different partnerships (Audi) do not add to EV competence now. A reason I would stay away from such a car would be because EVs these days require continuous software maintenance, and I would be concerned of reliable and available support especially in the long run for a car that isn't selling well.

The Chinese people have not forgotten WW2, even if they can do business with each other at the corporate level. Put these on ship and send them to anyplace else with Toyota brand loyalty and they could charge twice that.
