Really cool job and super informative video,thank you. I am preparing to fabricate my own body kit from scratch using this method. Im 20 years old ,this is my first attempt of anything like this, is there anything you would recommend for someone in my boat(anything i might overlook and things i should expect)?

I really appreciate the comment! My biggest piece of advice would be to practice using all the methods and materials first. Once you feel confident, move forward! There is honestly so much that can go into a project. Just take your time and measure like crazy...good luck!!

I've been looking for a process like this for my project, really like your approach. Have a question for you: I'm assuming you've applied this concept to other vehicles and taken it all the way to the finished state, have you noticed any kind of telegraphing from the steel rod through the paint job? Only asking due to the differences in materials, the steel will contract or expand with the outside temperatures whereas the composites won't. Just curious, thanks.

Great question. I have never had an issue with paint after the fact. But in all fairness, those projects really only ever saw the garage and shows. I use a bonding adhesive on the metal before I actually lay fiberglass. I sand it down, just leaving enough for grip. My theory was basically just to add a substrate that they both bond to.

you should consider looking into "skiving". Not sure of the spelling. It has to do with making leather thinner to glue. kind of the process you are doing with your scissors for glue up

Where did you get your foam materials and what brand of resin do you use?
@brendleconcepts

I use pellon ff78f1 foam for this project. I get my resin from a local supply store. It is a polyester resin.

@@brendleconcepts I highly recommend a good quality vinyl-ester resin. Less shrinkage and better end product. I use U.S. Composites.

@@brendleconcepts I'd love to film or be able to help for our company, I've come with a idea I think could honestly change the auto industry that I'm sure you can complete. But as of transparent led; Do your exact process, then color the carbon the same as car, line with LEDs, then cover with transparent epoxy. Please thank Roylty MediaTV on YT if you decide to try 🙌

why didn't you just lay fiberglass instead of the resin layer?
@brendleconcepts
@brendleconcepts Год назад
I prefer to presoak materials like foam first to prep the surface for fiberglass. This will stop the foam from absorbing the resin as I apply it to the fiberglass mat. The second reason is that there is additional work that I need to do before adding fiberglass.
@carbonfiber8071

@@brendleconcepts I 💯 agree, I’m the same way, I make all kinds of things by hand where it makes sense. But having made carbon fiber and fiberglass molds and layups in the past it’s just insanely time consuming, makes a mess, and isn’t really necessary unless you love sanding and filling that much. Theres a lot of other things I’d rather be making or doing with the saved time.

Sometimes hands on is cost effective since you'd probably want to use a high grade 3d printer which can be in the thousands including consumables. I have only less than a two hundred in fiberglass mat, resin, and foam.
