Toyota completely separated the Supra from the Celica in 1986, but it wasn't until the fourth-generation model that the Supra entered the world of Japanese superculture. Blame as strange as it may sound was placed on the Supra MKIV's 2JZ-GTE engine and Getrag six-speed transmission. The inline six was so indestructible and so ready to crank out insane performance that even today it remains one of the most popular engines of all time, both in motorsport and among tuners.
Over the years, the Supra has enjoyed success in motorsports such as drag racing, rallying, drifting and track racing series such as IMSA, JGTC and Le Mans.
