I want to thank you for posting this. Just added these lights to my 2023 Tacoma SR. There is NO WAY that I could have installed them without your video!
Lmaoo "if you didn't like it because it wasn't detailed enough, chances are you shouldn't be modifying your car"😂😂 bro ain't that the truth. Nicely detailed video man!!
I have a 2020 SR V6 pre wired. Contacted my local Toyota dealer regarding fog lights. They wanted $280 for the kit plus $130 per hour for service which was estimated 2 hours. So $600 for an already prewired truck just for fogs. I said that’s ridiculous! The parts agent said “I agree”! I couldn’t justify the cost. Bought the Amazon kit, got the add a fuse. Installed in about an hour and a half. All for under $50. Thank you SO SO much man for this vid! Worked perfect man. Kudos sir!!
So you did not need to use the wiring installation kit that came with your Amazon purchased light kit? You used the factory wiring and installed a fuse into a factory fuse box already in the truck? I'm asking because I bought a 2023 sr V6 double cab and it does not have the factory fog lights.
I just installed mine today. Thank you for the informative video! Just an FYI, my dad and I figured out that the male connector fits perfectly over the end of a coat hanger wire. If you then tape it with electrical tape, you can thread it through the grommet on the fire wall instead of using a screwdriver to pass it through the outside of the grommet
Quick tip, instead of running the wire to where it can rub against the metal that the rubber grommet slips over just poke it through the rubber next to the wire loom so you don't have to worry about it shorting out.
Great video but I do have one major safety issue with how you ran the wire through the fire wall. You ran the wire directly against the metal hole in the firewall. The wires insulation will eventually wear down due to vibration and motion and the wire could SHORT out against the metal frame of the truck. Whenever a wire is run through any metal hole in ANY vehicle (car, truck, train, plane etc etc) it runs through a rubber grommet. The purpose of the grommet is to prevent the wire from EVER touching the frame of the vehicle. A much safer way to run the wire is to use a sharp screwdriver or awl or whatever and poke a new hole in the middle of the existing grommet while leaving it in place. Just be careful and then poke the wire through the new hole just as you did. You do not want to run the wire AROUND the grommet because that defeats the whole purpose of the grommet.
I was going to ask that. Could he have just routed it through the existing wiring hole? What would happen if you disconnected the wiring harness that’s going thru the firewall now and tried to use the same rubber grommet?
Dont pass your wire like that in your firewall! Over time the sharp edge will cut your wire! Instead, make a little hole into the plug (watchout for the others wires), pass your wire and seal with a silicone! (Just a little) Besides that, thanks for your video! Great one!
Eduardo, Nicely detailed video. I did the same mod a few years back. I have just one comment concerning the operation of the fog lights. Most states do not allow for fog lights to be operated along with high beams. I had to add a relay to have the fog lights turn on turn off while the high beams are on. It is all legal now and works like a factory installation.
@@EddieTee321 lol, nice response. In other words. U dont give a fuuuuuuuuuuck!!!. Who cares about ur fog lights being on with high beams lol. Who the f has ever been pulled for that, id bet no one.
Most Toyota Tacoma are prewired for many of the options whether you have them or not. I've instal factory intermittent wipers, cruise, and fog lights at a fraction of the cost the dealer charges. They sell a factory fog light kit that comes with new headlight switch, fuse (which is prewired in the fuse box in engine compartment), wiring harness, and lights with bezel. Don'T ever run a wire through the firewall like rhis guy did. If you look at 13:00 that plug by his left thumb with the gray and white wire is the factory fog light plug that the fog light wiring harness plugs into.
@@ryanfay1 yes, but it is not hard to do. Take the proper precaution with the airbag and you'll be fine. Just look at the plug going into head/turn sig switch first to see if the wire harness is prewired. There should be 1 full row and 1 row with just 2 wires. Those are for the fog lights (signal going to Ecm and the ground)
Bob back again finish the fog lights installation only problem I had is the round washer o the positive wire wouldn’t fit I had to cut three round connector and wrap the wire around the nut started it up fog lights look great thanks again
So the 12v fuse tap is just an on/off indicator for the relay thus you could just find any wire that is hot when the ignition is on saving the fuse tap step. You could find the headlight fuse and use that for power to not have to tap directly into the battery.
Thank you so much for the detailed video. I just bought this kit and installed it on my 21 SR. Everything works as it should. The fog light surrounds fit loosely and the interior switch is VERY bright green at night.
U can prob always pop that swith out. Obv it has a tiny bulb somewhere, probably soldered to something, but non the less, either try to sway it out, or just hit it until it no longer is lit up and that solves that all together.
Hey bro Just installed on my 2018 sr work truck. I followed your vid through and everything works as it should thank you s for the details. Just a note not crazy about the gap between the fog light and the outer housing. Nothing on you. Thanks again for the great video.
Ik this is old, but this guide was helpful. I did some steps in my own way, since the 2020 tacomas are just a lil different. Other than that, its straight to the point.
I installed my fog light housings, used electrical tape to tape off where the connectors go, and left it LOL. I don't have factory wiring either, and all my cables are different as they're from Diode Dynamics. Gonna pay someone for a shop hour to do the wiring lmao I can't be bothered. Funny how much easier wiring up a computer is. I can build a computer in my sleep.
QUESTION Regarding the wire that goes from the switch to the fuse: Is it possible to connect that wire to the low beam power wire? Since there is a relay, wouldn't that connection be sufficient? I am thinking that way, it disconnects each time the lights are turned off, thus having the fog lights behave as they did from the factory. Is this a possibility?
Bro wtf is a flat head. Slow down, bruh. Haha Good vid. Bought a similar kit with switch so its prolly green too. Ive seen people change out the lights in their casio watches...so it prolly can be done if you really wanna. Lol. But it dont look bad.
Thinking of this model of truck to buy! How do you like the 2.7 motor. Supposed to be super reliable. Thanks for sharing this install. It'll be the first thing I do !
It's a great truck. I loved it. However I sent it back as a trade in for the four door long bed truck because that's always been my tacoma dream truck and I was finally in a position to afford it
I have a 2019 barcelona red (really nice color of red and one of toyotas well done colors, they are not known for good paint colors or paint jobs for that matter) 2.7l sr basic truck with 4 wheel drive. Mine does have color matched bumpers and it has factory black wheels that make it really look nice. Anyway, my 2012 taco 2.7 basically same truck in white, had 150k miles and it ran the exact same as this truck with 30k miles. I have zero doubt that my 12 would of last another 150k no problem. They are simple to work on, tons of room under the hood. The eay they are set up now with a 6 speed transmission (overbuilt because its the same trans that moves the 278hp v6 at least in mine) it powers it nicely. Im used to a 2.7l tho. My gf has a 2020 sr v6 4x4 access cab same as mine but that does get up a little more, but neither are fast by any means. It has no balls, ya know. Ur not gonna romp on it and smile thats for sure lol. It will suprise ya tho, mine legit, no word to lie, get 25 mpg routinely. My 2012 with 4 speed and od got 18 to 20 max. N i religiously with my app track my mileage on each tank also with the dash of my 19 which confirms accuracy. Point is, the way its set up now, if u drive like a normal person its hard, unless driving uphill on the highway to get the rpms above 2k. They set this tbing up fantastically for this model year anyway n im sure anything after it. It suprised the hell out of me when i was getting 24, 25, even seen trips in the 26mph. Mine is completely stock with the firestone destinations still on it. It wider and does feel way more bulky than my 2012. I think the sesting position is way worse in the 3rd gen than the 2nd gen by far. Ur like on the ground in these n im only 5ft 9in. So i wouldn't recommend anyone over 6ft even consider it, unless u get 2020 or newer eith power seats. I will be looking for a wrecked 2020 or later with the power seat optiom to attempt an install one day. It can be that hard to do. The only thing i hate toyota for they are so cheap on interiors. Esp on the tacomas. The sest should have a min since the intro of 3rd gens manual up and down at a min but really just add the damn power option to every model regardless of trim. Do something for us for once, then theyd buy even more of em and they get the set up for probably 20 bucks a vehicle ya know. Crazy to me.
I just put these in following your video. My only question is the way it is hooked up in the fuse box leaving the switch led on all the time. Is there a way to wire this so that the led for the switch is only on when the fog lights are on?
Excellent video. I’m wanting to put these same lights on my Tacoma. I may have missed it but does anyone know the brand/model of the light kit in this video? Thanks.
So I hooked my fog lights just like the video showed,I tried the brite lights with the fog lights on,it worked, and then the brite lights wouldn't work anymore, only if I hold my switch back they come on,so when I turn off the rruck then the switch will work right with the accessory on,what do you think happened
Also, i think the relay is for that. If ur lights dont work at all then u didnt install it correctly. Try ordering a diff switch. Can also order a stock switch from toyota id imagine too.

@@amjadaden I was going off of memory here. I took a look last night, and that auto highbeam switch is in a different place. That plastic cover is in the same exact spot.
