Tacomas have sure come a long way in 14 years. The only Easter egg mine shares is the door locking if you unlock it and don't open the door. Great video and thanks for the info! Mine is an '07 SR5 4X4 4.0L auto with 74K miles and almost completely stock but for the cat back dual exhaust. I friggin' love that truck.
Anither fun thing. I have a 2021 and just found out that the 2 rear corners are wired for bed lights. it takes 10 minutes to install. the harness that comes with led lights work with center rear bed light. Amazon was under $30
2018 trd 4x4 or any with push button start. If you have a pet this is awesome. Leave car running with AC on You can use the key in the fob to lock the doors outside the truck. Easy but so helpful
Thanks for the video! I almost took my Tacoma into the dealer because of how crappy the auto hi beams work I didn't know there was a sensitivity in the radio! Thanks a ton! No more flashing people constantly on the road!
Hey, great vid, you actually taught me a few things. Most of these vids are just repeats of each other for well known tips. This video, however, was detailed and to-the-point, thanks. That cruise setting and the backlight adjustments are super handy!
I don't think it's super secret but if you go into the menu then choose screen settings there's a button bottom right that turns off the display.i find it bright when I'm on the highway at night and I like being able to have it off. Choose any button and it turns back on :)
Does anyone know how to keep the display dim once you turn off your headlights? I’ve chosen a very dim setting for the head unit over all, but once I park those setting go bright when I’ve turned off the lights. It must look like a lightning strike next to an ugly clown when I try to exit my truck at 2am.
@@jonsutubechannel Not on the door but on the door frame. if you are standing out side looking at driver seat it is on the right with a rubber cover. depending on the version of tacoma you have it may not be there
Does anybody read the manuals? No? Just me? Pretty easy to tell you dont because everything anybody has said in the video and comments is IN THE MANUALS!
Had a 2021 4Runner Trd Off-road, flipped it for a 2022 Sequoia Trd Pro and both of them had that TOW/HAUL button which I always thought is for towing only. It was a huge game changer for me when I discovered that I can also use that mode when I need more power going uphill or sometimes on the freeway. It changes your gas pedal response to a more linear feel and quicker response time. Kinda like sports mode for the truck. It really makes a huge difference. Just give it a try, you’ll be amazed.
Also with a $12 obd2 adapter and a $5 (Car Scanner) app I was able to permanently turn off the " No Seat Belt" beeper☺️........Don't judge me, I hate it. 2021 Tacoma. I love the truck not the beeper
Nice job giving detailed tech info. I wish more of this was out there. Maybe you can talk about radio features next and playing favorites while using either steering wheel buttons vs. screen in the future. Thanks!
I found that you can't lock your truck with your remote if you want to keep the truck running to keep the ac on but you can lock it with your main key. It won't unlock without using the key too.
i heard a rumor that yota is doing away with remote starters on their vehicles in the next year or so. i think the tree huggers had a tantrum that we are causing emissions with cars sitting idling
I was just about to ask this exact question. I sometimes run errands with my little dog. Obviously, I want to leave the Taco locked and running. This was a great help. Thanks, dude!
You know when Traction control is off the MPG goes up by 8. Get a manual it goes up based off how you drive. The factory says 18MPG I get 30 because it’s not an automatic. The more tech on a vehicle tge less control you have over the vehicle.
This also works on other vehicles too. If you give your spouse your key to start the truck, she can start it without stepping on the brake. Press the start button once, after truck is powered on, press and hold for 13 seconds. This way she doesn’t have to hop in and out of the driver seat
Watched this just for the cruise control part. HATE that adaptive crap. Especially when you forget it does it and end up wearing your drink. Thanks bro.
I don't mind it but knowing i can adjust how far it sets me back is super super nice. Hated feeling like I was slowing down the rest of the highway trying to be in cruise! 😂
If you have the 360 camera, you can change the color of the truck on the screen (I think default is white). Something like holding 'audio" button and turning the headlights on and off four times. You should get a page that allows you to make the truck match the actual color of your truck. There is a YT video with an army green Tacoma.
I knew none of that beside the light settings on the menu! I see my 2020 Tacoma with all these buttons and never payed much attention till now so thank you!
Not sure which model years have this but my 2021 does. Remote START: On your key fob hit the “LOCK” button (3) times. On the 3rd press, hold it, the DRL/Turn Signal lights will flash and the truck will start. The downside is that the truck will turn off when the door is opened or the truck unlocks. NOTE: Not too fast and not too slow. There is a rhythm to it if that makes sense.
@@carlosmesa5077 no, there is no way to turn it off. I believe they claim it to be a safety feature. You can’t even leave the windows down, remote start it and then attempt to climb through the window to drive away. The second you hit the break or attempt to shift it out of park, it shuts off.
And if any one didn't know. If you are going to fold down the rear seats. First lift up bottom of seat, the pull head rest out and place them it the two holes located on the bottom section of the seat that you just raised up, then you can lay the back of set down.
Thanks for the video. I heard you can use the key fob to auto-start my 2020 Tacoma, but I tried it and it didn't work fr me. Do I need to change a setting for this?
@@isaacriezebos5819 Hi, I tried several times and it didn't work for me. I called a 800 number at Toyota about it and the lady said my truck was not set up for it from the factory.
Has this ever happened to you? Just got back in truck from lunch. The dash screen where you can see how fast your going, just turned into snow(Static). I’ve made an appointment already, just wanted to know if it’s a common thing… I njoy all of your videos by the way…
Shifting issues come from gear size. We all need to upgrade gears ⚙ to 4.88 or 5.29. 4.88 is a waste of applications. If you're gonna open the diff, go all the way!!! Its a 12hr job, reguardless. So, $1500 for gears and $1000 (at $85 per hr) for installation. Unless, you get a friend's shop to do it in 8 to 10 hours, ur paying $2500 for gear job! So, dont half ass on choosing which gears to install! Check out the top gear maker, (im not affiliated) "Nitro Gears". Their site has an extra video to explain, why you should pick the 5.29's over the 4.88's! Hope this was helpful, 👍.
You can change how many times the turn signals flash on the half movement of the switch. I like 5 personally. The cc switch changes up and down 1mph per click, so if at 60 click up 5 times will stop at 65 etc or down to 55.
@@ChrisYorky - as I know it the only way to change this is while the dealer has it hooked up to a computer. There is also a plug in that allows the consumer to hook into the OBD plug and change some settings. This being one of them. I too like the 5 flashes vs the 3.
Thanks for that info on the traction control. I didn't know about holding down the button. First night I had the truck it took me about 15 minutes to figure out how the bed light control works... lol The bed lights are also useful in case somebody is tailgating you at night 😅
I didn't know about the light settings and the door settings. Thanks I normally just leave my key in the truck and keep it unlocked, so I got to make sure this truck does not lock me out on its own. There's way too much Electronics in this truck for my taste, but I bought it for the engine reliability and the towing ability.
What I did with the lights in the bed, I put the switch in the bed where it should be. Now I can open the tailgate and if I need a light, simply flip the switch. The bed has a cover and a bunch of tools in it.
@@TheUnrestricted I bought a mag switch and tapped the wire for the bed light and aligned it with my hard bed, so when i lift the cover, the light comes on. you can do the same with the tailgate. just line it up with a spot about half way up the tailgate so you get a good response time. trust me, you will love the convenience
Guys if you have a tacoma and haven't got a chip in it. You HAVE to. Its amazing. Big difference. Saves money on gas. Better gear finding. It is FAST. DM if in cali and interested. Thats where i got mine :)
Well, i got the KDMAX tuning and it stopped the gear shifting issues. $400. Type in KDMAX in googl and they will show you the nearest guy who will meet you and do it in 20 mins!
It would be the blue light on the inside left side right below the steering wheel. typically this is the alarm light and it used to only be on when my car was locked. but it has weeks now of being on all the time
Nice, finally some one explained that in the vehicle menu to Adjust settings for doors and many more options, I came from M5 Competition and I reprogrammed M5 for all this small things to make it more comfortable vehicle, it is awesome that Toyota did that for costumer in the menu , thank you Toyota 👍🏻
I have 2021 Toyota Tacoma trd sport cement and they upgrade the truck with the smart key and you can lock the tailgate by locking the truck and it the one with the push button start
Just thought I'd ask here, I'm looking for some solid audio system options for a 3rd gen. Budget is about 2-3k tops, was looking at cheaper but doesn't look like I'll be able to get the quality am looking for.
Funny thing is all this is in the manual if people would rtfm. Really people should read the thing that comes with stuff that tell them how everything works
Double click your lock button on your fob then on the third click hold it until your truck starts. (Truck will shut off soon as you open the door as a theft prevention measure.)
I'm not happy that they covered small pocket to the left of the steering wheel with the traction control switch on the 2021. It was the perfect place for my parking transponder in my 2019, now transponder sits in the cupholder. Also I need to try the dimmer, I am on my second Tacoma and didn't know about that.
I have 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport 2WD........How do you turn traction control completely off? I've tried hold the button for 10plus seconds and its better but not off......If you are spinning the wheels in field or snow the engine will fall flat on its face.....any suggestions? Thanks
@@TheUnrestricted I did see the basic Traction control off but is there a way to disable the engine limiter? I'm not looking the blow the engine but if the wheels start spinning the engine dies for like 5 seconds...sucks!!
Anyone figure out how to adjust the entertainment center screen’s brightness? Sometimes it’ll rain and I turn my headlights on but the screen goes dim and washes out in the sun. Very annoying when I’m trying to use GPS.
Menu Button -> Settings -> (Small bar-shaped icon in the bottom right) Display Settings. Brightness is not the color brightness it is the backlight brightness. And contrast will more so adjust the color settings.
In my 2017 there is a box to check for daytime mode that keeps screen bright with headlights turned on. Very helpful, drives me crazy during summer storms when dimming.
