What is going on?!
Today I finally install an exhaust on my 5 year old Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road. A fairly good bang for your buck when adding this specific exhaust and the install can be done in under and hour with one person as you will see, although as many will tell you having two people could cut that time down by a lot. I just put my r4t exhaust on last week and ended up sound proofing the whole inside of my truck lol. The exhaust tone will slightly change after it’s broken in. I love it and like you said price and functionality can’t beat it. I was a little concerned I might smell exhaust in my cab but I don’t. Enjoy your videos !

Hey Nick, there's a tool for the rubber exhaust hangers. It costs $23 and is available on Amazon. I come from the Jeep world (CJ7 's) short wheelbase. My taco is a gen 3 has 127-in wheelbase just like yours. The first time I took it out, the very first thing I bounced on was the lower part of the crossover pipe. You know the one that hangs below the tcase. I decided that was no good so I replaced it with the rerouting kit. Now the exhaust pipe is tucked up and I was able to order skid plates without the stupid notch in it. So I'm flat and I love it. Maybe I'll get around to changing the same part that you changed the muffler, but I played whack-a-tip and just cut it off. That's the old Jeep side of me coming out.

Wish I would have know that about the tool haha and yeah next year is when I plan to get all the rest of my skids done and I'll probably do that re-route as well I'm not a fan of that low hanging pipe either.

Not sure if its just the video or not i figured a turn down exhaust like that would be way louder. Its actually quiet. Do you also have an aftermarket intake? What made you choose that exhaust

Haha yeah it's not intended to be loud but it's definitely louderER. The reason I got it was because I kept hitting the exhaust tip on trails and it would crunch into the bumper out back. So that's no longer an issue and it's why R4T makes these. I don't have an Intake in CA I just don't care to make it even harder to pass SMOG which I will need to do soon. Maybe after I will who knows could sound cool. Nothing is making this thing faster without a supercharger though.

Hey interested to see if you’ve had your Tacoma tuned at all? On the fence about it and wondering if you have considering you actually drive your truck and might be able to give some feedback on it

I do have a tune and about to go get it re-tuned actually as there is a newer version of my tune out. I think it changes a lot about the truck and it drives 100 times better after especially given all the added weight and other mods. Don't get ripped off though, how much are they charging you?

@@quicksendtaco I’m considering getting it done on my truck, I believe 450. The biggest concern especially with mine being a 2017 are the tsb updates released from Toyota for the 2016 and 17’s im hoping a tune won’t Change any of those settings corrected by Toyota, and the change in timing I know the computer should automatically recalibrate and learn to advance the timing but still a concern. What tune are you running ?

@@windowsbythebay They won't change those at all. I got mine in 2018 and the dealer and the tuner confirmed they dont interact in the same interface of the ECU. I have the 2022 version of the Overland Tailor Tune.

The best thing to do to get rid of low hanging exhaust is to reroute the part of the exhaust that goes under the transmission. Not sure why Toyota thought that was a good idea but that piece makes the exhaust the lowest part of the Tacoma.

That's true but it is not nearly at as much risk as the rear bumper and exhaust. The long wheel base and short departure angle are to thank for that. A skid plate would fix what you are talking about as well.

@@quicksendtaco well it would protect the exhaust but that bump out in the skid plate causes a hang up spot. I just got mine rerouted, cost less than $200 and I had them put easy disconnects incase it needs to be removed for maintenance

@@silvermonk13 Yeah I don't rock crawl enough to worry about that one little bump and if I did I'd have way more other important things to worry about hitting and breaking first haha
