Your day will come. My first car was £168 worth of Mk2 Cortina complete with built in rust. I would have dreamed of that used Civic (and a lot more reliable) 👍🏻👍🏻
This is not a joke at all, i drove a lexus on a vacation and loved the hybrid system, so when i came to change cars i was really looking forward to get an Auris. When i opened and closed the doors on the test drive i though there was something wrong with the car. It was such a turn down for me. My VW golf with 20 years of age was better, i couldn't get over the fact that i was paying a tone of money for something worst... :(
Mats ideal car: -somewhere to put the parcel shelf -rear windows go all the way down -rear seats lie flat -no scratchy plastic -bright infotainment system -light steering -no fake exhausts or vents
I kinda worried that carwow forget about what they should be. They supposed to be informative rather than entertaining. Because lets be honest, all these supercar and drag race review are for entertainment for most all of us
@@rayhansyagibral2417 It probably has to do with there are hardly any new launch for these affordable cars. Manufacturers on this segment aren't keen on launching new products or even facelifts under current global economic condition.
@@rayhansyagibral2417 The more normal and attainable the car is, the more I like carwow's video on it. I skip a decent chunk of the exotic stuff honestly...but clearly those bring in the most views for him most of the time.
@Stefan its a tiny car. No ifs or buts and a cheap interior. I have a 19 yo Toyota Crown Athlete VX, this won't last 20 years. New car prices are ridiculous now. Even "cheap" cars are expensive. Manufacturers are greedy now. That's why new cars don't last. They chuck all this "tech" at cars, then all the important bits get less money spent on them. If you need lane keep assist or any assists like that, you shouldn't be allowed to drive
@@elis7228 those people that need it shouldn't be driving. That's what the blind spot check is for. Stay on your skateboard mate it's safer for the rest of us that way
It's actually ugly, both on the inside and outside, and also impractical. #sorryNotSorry Pretty & practical cars: Renault Clio, Peugeot 208, Dacia Sandero 2021 model, Hyundai i20, Ford Fiesta, VW Polo.
Don’t forget ‘Reliability’ and ‘Economical’ ...now edit your list to see what’s still comparable?! I’ll await solid arguments for anything other than the Polo and even that being ’Pretty’ is questionable 😏
"- see how it's better than a Polo or Fiesta!" - breaks down less - cheap to fix when it does - parts are readily available anywhere in the world (You're all welcome).
I agree which is why I now watch RU-vid on the adblocker browser. Blocks all adverts - you'll thank me later. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hsv.freeadblockerbrowser
Just get RU-vid premium you cheapskates Actually, don't because then they will raise the price and put more ads on which will convince more people to pay which will make them raise the price and put more ads until eventually the only free stuff will be adverts and we'll have to pay to watch any user created video at all 🤣
Way more people will buy it on a lease, so it's the monthly price that matters. I don't know why Carwow still uses whole price figures, probably because it makes their savings sound bigger.
I use to drive (still occasionally take it out) the 2015 Yaris Hybrid and I promise you is MUCH better than what you think: -very fast acceleration -precise steering round corners - not too bad 111mph top speed - over 3 years ownership in the family average MPG: 55.9mpg in winter and 60.1mpg in summer -great sound system clear and loud -extremely reliable -can hold its own in a traffic light race against cars it has no business competing against I can promise you that (116i, A180, 1.6 A3) 100% recommended it to a young driver or any other age group.
@@trazyntheinfinite9895 and the resale price is always good. Our was bought at 60k miles for a total of 9.2k and now it has 105k miles and still sells for 6k which isn’t bad at all
D Woolwichpoly I was so close to getting a 2015 Yaris Hybrib, but it's twice as much as the 1.3L petrol, couldn't justify the price. Over £10,500 compared what i got last years £6.000.
That's one thing I definitely agree with Mat on: Toyotas always have an excellent driving position. From Yarises to Land Cruisers, the seats are also perfect for me. They offer plenty of support without losing the plush feel that I really like.
@Teamgeist when 99% of the reviews are for cars that only 5% of the viewers can afford, it says the channel is out of touch. Personally I can afford an AMG but that's not the point I'm making. As for your assumptions about life being unfair etc, you might want to go sit in the corner and let the adults talk
Carwow is one of the view big car channels that do these on a regular basis... yes they also review supercars because those get the views, but if you take a look at their full review uploads they actually review a lot of "normal" and mostly affordable cars.
@Teamgeist show me the reviews of Mazda, Kia, Ford, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, Subaru, etc. There are countless > 100k Mercedes and Audi and BMW but none of these normal cars. Show me. As for acting like an adult, I started the conversation with a valid critique and your response was to accuse me of being poor. Your bias and stupidity have shown through, and provided not a single valid retort to a common sense point. Do the world a favour and hold your breath for 10 mins.
@@Ouaziz186 Ikr. They make them worse with every subsequent generation. I wonder why Matt didn't include the part where it couldn't start in the main video.
akm again and yet the part he mentioned about the cruise control and how they are standard on a Toyota well with a piece of shit of a car like that no wonder it’s standard and yet with BMW, Mercedes and Audi they are just beautiful machines hence why you don’t get that stuff for for free
Toyota aimed to sell a Hybrid for £20k, they had to cut corners! Personally, I don't see the point of hybrids. Studies show that the electric driving mode seldom engages. So you're not saving much on gas and emissions (IRL) compared to a regular 208 or Fiesta with a manual and a tiny engine.
@@user-xg6zz8qs3q not true. I drive a hybrid and the system is constantly switching the petrol engine off and on. Real world experience of real owners says hybrids can be extremely economical. Perhaps try one for yourself rather than rely on others uninformed prejudices.
@@user-xg6zz8qs3q anyone who drives aggressively in any vehicle will get relatively poor fuel consumption. If you drive a hybrid correctly it will reward you with good mpg. My CHR is averaging around 60mpg and I'm not a slow driver.

9:50... welcome to the world of Asian car sheet metal standards...😅😅😅😅...In India it's the notion of Japanese manufacturers... Almost every one of them have FLIMSY metal
It's a lot cheaper here in Japan. You don't get as many options in the UK as it's less popular than the European superminis so they offer it with more standard kit (which bumps the price up). Here, the base model is more comparable to an Ibiza of similar spec (without many of the standard options which are included in the UK model).
Looks much better in person. I saw a grey and a white one and they looked good. Also, maybe others have mentioned this, but to easily get near the claimed fuel economy you always accelerate using the petrol engine and then lay of the gas pedal and coast using the electric motor. I have the previous gen and I often get around 3.5 Lt/100km
@Michael Martinović The Sandero will never be as advanced, sure. But it's a fine car in a no-frills sense, using tried & true parts from Renault. And everybody loves the Clio IV and V, they're reliable and boring.
We need Mat in Top Gear. I can understand two of the presenters only half-properly, also I don't like their sense of humour, it's just too degrading and immature. Bless Chris Harris
wow! knew Toyota had lost their Japanese quality long ago...didn't know that about the other two, one which claims to be British since long time ago- interesting!
@@petermcnallt12pm it is ironic so i have a Renault twingo atm but my Fiance auntie just gave us her 2017 yaris hybrid as she giving up her license and she said do what you want with it and we sat inside and its a high end Bi-tone model and it feels cheap compared to our Twingo which is a smaller car so were selling both cars and getting a Renault Clio instead lol .
£20,000 minimum for a Yaris? That's Fiesta ST money. Literally makes no sense, considering you can't get one for in the same price range as Polo, Fiesta, Fabia, meaning £10,000.
I would rather buy the new e-up than this shit p.s. wtf is that sound when closing doors ?!!! that is just terrible like hitting my washing machine lid
Whether accident or design this is a comprehensive video, even mentioning the thin panel thickness which would do my head in. Yeah, I have to say Matt excelled himself here.
In Japan, in addition to the hybrid model, you can choose between a 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter gasoline model, which is also available as a manual transmission.
The only thing that bothers me is the battery thing. Reliability cannot be compromised in Toyota. Can you bother to explain how you eventually got out of this situation? Was that just a glitch, an edge case you fixed somehow, or the car just died on you and that's it? Did you tell Toyota about the problem and if so, what did they tell you?
I have toyota yaris 2022 and overall it's good. But I wouldn't recommend for long distance driving which I started doing more often. The safety features is nice but the pick off speed is soo slow and when you use power mode the sound is annoying.
I bought the Tokyo pop-out trim (not available anymore) with full extras. Matt's review convinced me to make the choice while searching for a new car a year ago. I drive it for 2 months and I have to admit that it's a fuel (and money) saver. Very nice car to drive in the city, very nice exterior design. All my friends liked it and said that this will be their next car. Hybrid technology is the better choice, forget diesel and full electric engines.
Ours also didn't have the load cover. The dealer didn't even know about it until we pointed out to them that it's in the contract. 3 weeks later they have our load cover at their dealership so we can go pick it up. Moral of story: make sure to complain about it!
I can't stand people like you who's not bothered at all using the indicators. I bet you do the same on roundabouts too. Don't be surprised if no one gives you way.
@@baxter009 Yes and no. Touch interiors can go die in a fire but just because it is better than these stupid and utterly awful all touch interiors doesn't excuse that the interior is still worse than pre touch interiors on cars pushing a decade or more in age.
Great review Matt as always, one thing though im betting when you drained the Yaris of battery you was parked up in N (Neutral) with the ignition switched on because when in N the hybrid system wont monitor its battery levels and will then run them flat (Toyota handbook even states never to leave it in N always P (Park) or D (Drive) with hold funtion activated if inside the vehicle). The false floor is also an optional extra but can be ordered as my old man did when he ordered his Design (in Galactic Blue)
As an hybrid Corolla owner, I didn't even know you could "park" in the N gear... If I press the power button and I'm not in "park" the car will start beeping like crazy!
That interior is dreadful. Like James May said in his Yaris review back in 1999, "Because this is a Toyota, the interior comes in the following colors: Rhinoceros,,

Hybrid tech, low consumption, reliability, adaptive cruise control and auto breacking as standart, 5 year warranty, very easy and fun to drive. On the point of the door sound, all yarises so far have this sound, they have to be light, I own one from 2015 and not a single thing of the exterior or the interior went bad so far. I think there is a fundamental difference between perceived quality and actual quality. Toyota cars often feel a bit cheap but they tend to be extremely reliable and durable cars, ie. they have high quality where it matters. German cars often have brilliant perceived quality (though VW perceived quality is in free fall) but very average reliability and quality, ie. under the soft plastics and nice door close the quality isn't great.
CVTs are really cever and great for this type of installation, like little scoters, it puts the engine either at max power, torque of economy and adjusts the gear ratio to suit, I really do think for modest power applications they are the best solution.
$27000 is very highly priced for this poorly built car. Toyota's have very longer lost their reputation of solidly built cars. Cheap thin sheet metal with recycled poor quality plastics with outdated design doesn't help this car to sell. Practically this car should ideally be priced somewhere around $12000 if locally manufactured. A big thumbs down👎 for this cheap tin can.
Toyota have best warranty and excellent repair shop! Is not cheap to buy but is the best choice. My other car is 2019 bmw and is nightmare repaid shop! I had 5 models and I give up! With age the most import is not M pack is to relax ….
when matt closed the passenger back door it sounded like a can of tuna when you throw it away. it might be reliable but atleast parts should be done better.
£20k.. no thanks.. get a used Prius or CHR for that price... with a bit bigger boot. The boot floor was purposely’lost’ by Toyota as they probably wouldn’t get it back if Mat lost it..
That's very nice. But I can never get over the fact that you can get 40 mpg in a 2 liter diesel saloon, nearly twice as heavy, spacious, and enough torque left to pull the yaris to. I get emissions don't get me wrong, but all this tech never seems much in the real world.
Are emmisions a big thing in the UK? Here in Australia I have never heard of anybody take emissions into consideration when buying a car. It's more like "I want something with a big enough donk to pull my boat/work trailer/caravan".
I recently drove a fairly run in (40k km) Octavia 2.0 Diesel DSG. It was company car so I wasn't being gentle (170kmh at times) and it returned 5.7l/100km when I filled it and did the maths. There were 2 of us in the car. That is about 52mpg UK.
@@coover65 emissions is a big thing to the car manufacturers because they are taxed based on it due to EU regs. Hence why there is a drive for fewer cylinders and turbo engines because these produce good power for lower emissions.
Forget 40mpg, my FiL's C220d shows 55mpg+ on his trip computer. Even factoring in optimistic calculations that'll likely be 50mpg+, which is still great for a saloon. I have a V60 with all the tech (weight), sunroof (more weight!) and 200hp and I get about a real 48mpg on average calculated brim to brim. Not too bad really for a decent sized estate
@@justjosh11 Oh, OK. Here we just pay registration based on whether a 4, 5-6 or 8 cylinder engine. You don't get taxed more for buying a V8 Chryser than say a $60k 4 cylinder hybrid, other than rego.
