Just did one yesterday. I removed the cowl, wiper motor, and metal cowl to get a better access to the top nut. Great video for the do it your self guys.
Thanks for sharing! I just did this job, and didn't know about the 6mm hex bolt on the top of the shock. I took the entire heat shield thing out of the way to do this job. On the bright side, it wasn't a complete waste of time, over the years all sorts of leaves and junk built up in the driver side wiper area where there's nothing to stop it. Hit it with a shop vac, sucked up a ton of ants, now it's good to go.
Hi, my fronts struts are changed but the mechanic fixed a bushing under the cap on the top of the car metal to avoid space between the car metal and the cap when the car is on the ground. Is it advisable, or there mist be a space between the car metal and the cap when the car is on the ground? Thanks
Hi my shocks absorber are changed. Thanks for your help. When the car is on the ground, can you tell me if the cup of the top are on the car metal or if a little space? Thanks.
@@jlsetnuper I buy a Mpaco and i compared the original and the new. The originale come into the big hole above the shock absorbers and the new not come completly in to the hole....
The new, is the same like you have got. You can check the KYB video. A good part : for exemple: SNR KB669.21. I Think is better . I will test it and after car on the ground.
Struggling here with the top bolt . What a stupid design . The cap was missing on it so it’s rusted so bad that the hex is no longer hex . Tried to vice grip the cylinder and still slips . Going to be a fun one.
Did you replace the shock absorber and the spring? Ive seen some replace only thr shock absorber amd need special machine to compress the spring and disassemble..
@@jlsetnuper very nice... So is it a strut or shock absorber mine is 2008 yaris. And im seeing some call it a strut and others a shock absorber. Just wanna make sure i get right part. The dealer told me i need the shock absorber and shock absorber mount replaced. But i can only find strut for 2008 yaris
@@leolealuianderson5291 it is a strut and coil spring assembly. shocks are for the rear only. For the fronts, you want the part that comes with the entire strut/coil/mount
Where did you put the little washer that comes in the same bag as the new top nut??? I can't find this anywhere if it should go on top where the bolt sticks through or if it goes in between the steel mount ring and the nut that has the coil spring torqued down. Monroe doesn't include where to put it in the manual... I am asking because this brand new strut STILL has a gap when I lower the car and I can't close it by tightening, so I am afraid I just pulled a newbie and put the washer in wrong. Any help is most appreciated!
there is no washer when I removed the top nut, and that shock absorber is still original..the top nut and plate is floating before I replace the strut..check my other video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rpxiIM0HeSM.html) before I replace the strut, there is a gap between the car frame and the top plate..
@@jlsetnuper Thank you so much for getting back, that’s exactly the issue is that I have new struts in there and it’s still floating… I might have a solution right now actually I am tighten the top night and I’m going to put the car on the wheels instead of jacking it up to see if that puts it closer and not float
@@jlsetnuper Do you think floating is just a symptom of a bad strut or is it a problem in and of itself. Like if I have new struts that are floating, possibly because of a workmanship issue, can I just leave it?
I noticed the new rubber mount has a different pattern on it. Were you aware of it? I believe the metal part where the rubber mount meets the car frame is not match then? Any idea?
it has different grove from the old one, but they fit perfectly on the car frame and the most important is the bearing set properly that rubber support..
@@jlsetnuper At 5:04 I noticed the car frame has markings, are those grooves as well? If not, the two types of rubber mount can be really used interchangeably then.
@@CloudGarageAsia the car frame has no groves, its only a dirt marks from the old support rubber..its like a sphere that cut in half..you see it at 4:03 from the top..
@@jlsetnuper Where did you buy the socket set you used as I want one that just comes with sockets. I did look in halfords but they come with things I don't need.
