Step by Step oil change on my 2007 Toyota Yaris. The oil change is the same for 2006-2018 Toyota Yaris.
Please note Yaris IA models may have different positioning of oil drain plug and oil filter. They also use 8MM Allen for the drain plug.
I used SuperTech High Mileage Full Synthetic Motor Oil from Walmart. I used WIX Oil Filter 51394XP and
oil drain plug gasket - FEL-PRO 70822

That's the same oil filter removal tool i got & well worth getting,i have a chain tool too for those tight areas. Always have 2 or 3 types if doing a few cars for the family as i do. *TOP TIP* - Pour in some new clean oil into the engine so it'll drip out any old oil sitting on the bottom of the pan 😊

Quick note: If your Yaris doesn't say 5w-30 on the oil cap, you should follow this instruction: If the oil will be in the engine during winter and you live in a place where it gets cold during these months, use 5w30 oil. If it will only be in the engine during the summer, use 10w30. 10w30 is also used in hot climates, in middle east, they don't bother with 5w30, rather, all mechanics go for 10w30. Also if you have a lot of engine wear, typically above 200.000 miles, using 10w30 is much better.

When i had my 2015 1.3L Yaris 2 yrs ago with 88,000m here in the UK my local Jap specialist garage used 0w20 in July,next year it was 5w20 & then 2 months ago they used 5w30....is that ok?

The video only shows on Yaris 2006, a very old model. Its title was a totally mistake to say it covers till Yaris 2018 which was a mistake, or perhaps to lure people to watch this video. The oil filter location was not the same on newer different year model.

Here in the UK i have a 2015 1.3L with a CVT....it does 58mpg best & 40mpg urban/town. The CVT does the same mpg as a manual but, the 6sp manual has a good 6th gear ratio for that high mpg.

Clear and concise, exactly what a beginner DIYer needs. Thank you! Just curious, where can I take the used oil once I've changed the oil? What kind of canister can I put it in for transport? Thanks again.

Thank you! My local auto parts store takes used oil (Autozone/O'Reilly) to recycle. Sometimes the city may have a location to recycle used motor oil (check online). you can return it in the same container you collect the oil and drain the oil into the bin at the auto part store. You can also use the new oil container after you've poured the new oil into your car. Hope this helps

Il se vend des bacs à vidanges, qui font aussi jerrycan, en forme de bidon. Je l' amène après essuyage, à la déchetterie, où je le vide ce bidon. L' huile usée partira ensuite dans un centre de retraitement des huiles usagées.

Thank you. I might change the oil on my neighbor's Yaris so she doesn't get scammed on the oil change place synthetic oil change prices and I wanted to see how easy it is to get at the drain plug and filter. It looks like they are way easier to get at than my Mom's Corolla with the drain plug on the back of the pan and the oil filter on the back of the engine . I like to fill the new oil filter with oil if it is a vertical one like the Yaris has and also put a thin film of new oil on the oil filter gasket mating surface so it will tighten up smoothly, Generally you tighten then until the gasket makes contact with the engine, then another 3/4's of a turn. The filter box is often specific on this or maybe the info is on the filter itself. Oh yeah, I like to clean around the oil plug hole before putting the plug back in.

I don't jack up my yaris. I just slide a plastic drain pan under it and reach under it and use my 14mm box end wrench to take out the drain bolt. Then I reach under the front of the engine and twist off the filter with my hand. If you need a tool to remove the filter then it was overtightened. It should only be hand tight. The procedure in this video looks way too complex.
@wrenchgroove9387
@wrenchgroove9387 5 лет назад
Thanks for the comment. It's definitely possible to change oil without jacking up the Yaris. But for video purposes, I jacked up to film the procedure. This was meant for the truly beginner DIY
@ronnieperalta4051
@ronnieperalta4051 5 лет назад
I also jack up my Yaris on the driver side so it tilts toward the drain plug. After draining the used oil, I rinse it with brand new but cheap motor oil to clean totally the oil pan or until it drips a clean/fresh looking oil before I put back the drain plug.

This video is old obviously but, anyone who finds it, I found that autozone carries Toyota oem oil filters and denso air filters as well, cheaper than going to the dealer, it’s $7.99 here for the black Toyota oil filter in Illinois, I will never use aftermarket oil filters ever again. Most of the companies don’t plastic air seal their oil filters and they just put them in a box, then they sit on a shelf for who knows how long, the Toyota ones are air sealed and plastic wrapped in the box, and are designed for the car. Go oem! Glad my 09 yaris is from Japan , the Japanese know what they’re doing. Also use the oem denso alternators , got a new manufactured denso alternator made in Japan recently, thing will go another 11 years like the last one did.

@wrenchgroove9387
@wrenchgroove9387 4 года назад
It really doesn't make a significant difference but I fill (half way) the filter on the yaris. And that's because filter is vertical.
@mr.boostang2064
@mr.boostang2064 4 года назад
It really doesn't matter, the engine will run for about 2-3 seconds with no oil and the small oil film on the parts should be enough to protect the engine while it builds up oil pressure. Also the engine parts wont get hot enough during those few seconds of movement to cause any damage. My uncle taught me how to do oil changes this way and he's had engines last over 380k miles and burn zero oil (toyotas mostly)

Okay so I’ve worked at a Toyota dealership before. There is no need to fill the oil filter. Oil filter capacity is .3 so you just fill the motor to 3.9 or round up to 4 even if you wish. It won’t hurt it

It is called oil filter priming! If oil is straight up when on the vehicle then yes it does help keep the car from being dry when starting it after oil change is done.

Thanks for the comment but it does not matter. What matters is you apply a general torque that's not over-tighten or loose. For this car, you need to apply about 27 foot pounds. I've fasten many bolts in my life so I know what that torque range feels like. But if you're unsure what 27 ft lbs feels like on wrench then use a torque wrench.

My yaris1.3 has done 170000 km should i use a thicker oil say 20/50
@wrenchgroove9387
@wrenchgroove9387 5 лет назад
Don't do it. I wouldn't recommend 20/50 for any Toyota Yaris. Yaris and a lot of toyota cars have Variable Valve Timing. It has smaller ports where oil travels and using too thick of an oil can deprive the engine or cause premature wear. Toyota engineers recommend 5W30 and that what you should use no matter mileage. Now if you live in extreme conditions say Saudi Arabia (110F/44C) then 10/30 or 10/40 would make sense. Hope this helps.
