I love that he still used a hand reference being as talented and skilled as he is. Sometimes I feel like an amateur still using references so this is really reassuring.
As someone who works in both visual and audio art and design, I've seen many professionals on both fields showing their processes and ALL of them use reference. Only people that have too much pride on their natural skill think that using references feels like cheating, but it takes a humble person that acknowledges that we can miss steps and ruin one's final work by solely relying on our own perception to go further than a proud person. Only when all the reference you've used over the years is internalized and becomes second nature (due to so much repetition and practice) can you confidently make masterpieces with little to no reference. Heck, even ultra gifted people that can make art look amazing without proper education can only do so because they have the ability to look around and breakdown _whatever they see in front of them._ So regardless of institutionalized education of self-education... you cannot create without carefully studying reference beforehand.
@@thronosstudios I appreciate you sharing this dawg. While I learned to embrace the need for reference, I thought it was a means to become a pro. But seeing as no matter how high I go I will still be using reference is a whole different world of release of unnecessary pressure.
It definitely is,it is really cool to see someone adapting to the art style the series by far is amazing and I wish dragon ball doesn’t end early now that it is gonna come back
it's been really cool watching him improve throughout the run of Super. He's still got a ways to go before reaching the level of Toriyama but the series is definitely in good hands.
Lol, the writing is bad, the choreograpjy/art is monotone. Get over it, Toriyama was no god, his work was flawed to begin with, and Super is just a corpo cash cow.
@@haroldnecmann7040 You do realise 98% of supers story was Toyotaro right? Akira Toriyama picked him to be his successor, you are disrespecting him as well…
Thank you for drawing Dragon Ball Super so far dude. There was definitely why Toriyama sensei picked you as the successor and the one to carry the torch. I hope you are doing ok and I hope you know that many of us have accepted you as the one to carry on Akira Toriyama's legacy.
I hope that toyotaro found doing this enjoyable and that we can get more celebratory artworks like this one for other commemorations. As much as that might be a pipe dream though.
Toriyama-sensei always started with the hair, and the more animated flowy movement of a piece. Placing emphasis on these qualities to bring life and flight to his drawings. If Toyotaro can start to learn this from Toriyama-sensei, it would help his art a lot
Starting with the hair changes nothing, if you aren't comfortable drawing from a certain origin then you just make your art worse. Common knowledge. Don't speak about someone improving their art when you don't even understand it yourself.
First of all I absolutely love his art style man. I don’t think Toriyama could have chosen better🤷♂️ but one thing I love that toyotaro does here is he uses his own hands as references constantly throughout the drawing. I need to start doing this more it seems so convenient lol.
I can't believe that Toyotaro does the same thing as me when I'm insecure about the hands position, doing the position with his own hand and placing it at the right angle LOL
Me here wondering which software he uses, why its looking like 2000s era, krita and CSP are cheaper but with modern look 😂 however proud to be a dragon ball fan
akira toriyama is goated but i have thessame respect for toyotarou because without him, dragon ball would be ended by now. btw this drawing is really good
I really enjoy the Dragon Ball Super manga, I will tell you that much. It's not the same as the legendary DBZ, but it's likeable and likeable more than the anime which I don't care for.
i now understand why DBS had so much complaint when it was first release. Many compared his artwork to toriyama's. His art may be good but his anatomy is far from good. His body ratio is always off. Look at that left shoulder, left forearm going into left palm and the right hand. overall, i do prefer toyotarou's rendition of UI goku face and hair.
@@ugochukwunkemdirim1361 i wager he probably does all the rough sketching/story boards/penciling traditionally, and inking and shading & tones he does digitally. 😊
Toyotaro es buen mangaka pero la digitalización arruina bastante su trabajo, sobre todo por ese line art demasiado grueso, pero el coloreado es brutal.
Am a artist that's creating my own stuff and I use references for certain poses, there's nothing wrong with references, if you think you can draw that without needing a reference then quit yapping and prove it
@Artislife92 No. However, it's leagues better than Super. And that's the point. As faulty as GT was, it's still better than Super. Because Super is just _that_ bad.
