I’m an electrician who has over 3000 hours specifically working with low voltage CAT 6A cabling and device installation in high schools and data centers. TP-Link is easily one of the best providers of internet equipment for the price. I have this Deco 5300 in my home, and I wouldn’t have anything else. Several of my coworkers who have over 25 years of experience working purely with low-voltage cabling and device installation also have TP-Link cameras and doorbell cameras around their home. Side note, pay the extra money for good service, people 👍

Thank you for the video. I’m pretty sure I’m going to get this setup. It seems really easy to set up and I like the idea of only having one Wi-Fi network. Question. My internet is setup through the modem via coax cable and then that is connected via Ethernet to the wireless router that my isp gave me. When I get this kit, should I just return the wireless router or should. I use in in addition to this? Thanks again!

There is a slight speed rating difference between the two and this one had slightly more range but could also be from an updated firmware (I can't remember which version I had with the XE75). Generally speaking, it does seem like it's the 3 pack version of the XE75. Yes it's on my plan to compare all 7 mesh wifi 6e systems to each other. I might do a separate video just between this and the eero as well but want to prioritize the 7 mesh system comparison.

excellent review!! I'm from Brazil and I still can't find the xe75 around here. I currently have 3 deco m5 in my house that has 2 floors but unfortunately I can't get maximum speed in all environments. An opportunity came up and a friend who is returning from the United States. a kit with 3 xe75 (xe5300) seems to be a great choice or would you recommend another model? Thanks!

This is the same router as the XE75. I have just upgraded from 6 X20s to 6 XE75. Here are my test results. The XE75 system outputs internet speed around 50-300 percent faster in my house than the X20 system. In my garden (it’s big) the XE75 performs 100 percent faster near the house. 50-100 meters from the house the X20 actually performs much better than the XE75 (up to 1000 percent better). From 100-200 meters the XE75 is again better. X75 gives speeds from 1-3 mb in some places where the X20 did not give any internet access.

Great review! I currently have the Orbi RBK50 with one satellite. I pay for 1g speeds with att fiber. Whether to pick up additional satellite for my Orbi or getting this XE5300 is up in the air. I’ll be using Ethernet backhaul. Odd that I’m only getting about 400-500ish speeds on my Orbi..

Thanks! No mesh systems that I’m aware of. The ASUS ET12 is the cheapest at close to 800 I’ve seen with two 2.5Gbps ports. It’s very good, I’ve reviewed it.

This was working well with our COX wireless modem. We just purchased and installed an Arris Touchstone CM8200 modem. Hard wired internet is working. Deco now will not cycle through to working mode. Solid red light. Reboot= blinking blue light.

Update. The new modem doesn't like a hardwired computer and the deco both plugged into it. The desk top computer is now hard wired to the deco.

You are correct that you mentioned 1000 mega-bits per second, however in the case of gigabit Ethernet the byte rate is actually divided by 10, not 8. This is because gigabit Ethernet uses an encoding scheme developed by IBM 30 years ago called 8b/10b, where each 8 but byte is encoded to a 10 bit word length. This is done to assure transitions. So 1 Gigabit Ethernet has a 100 Mega-byte data rate, accounting for the 8b/10b encoding. Many systems used this form of encoding, PCIe1,2 but it was abandoned on ge3 and above, because of the overhead?

Are you sure about that? My impression was that Wifi was simply ethernet over radio waves, and that would encode packets with a bit of header data and eight bit data bytes assembled into data packets. Remember - we're talking ethernet packets, not an async protocol with the need for start/stop bits. That's why Wifi has an adjustable MTU size.

Should I get the eero 6+ 3 pack instead if I’m on a budget. I’m in a 3 story (two floors+basement) 4500sq ft home. My ISP is att optic fiber up to 1 gigabit down. My router is in the basement and I’m trying to get high speeds to the top floor for gaming.

Strange omission by TP - Link to omit at a least one 2.5gb port from just one router. This would have cost probably $10 max, which I would have been happy to pay.

Wow ... an amazingly short-sighted omission. Even my Netgear RBK853 (Wifi 6) has a 2.5gbps LAN port so I can get my ISP's (Xfinity) full 1.4gbps service (though it's only advertised as 1.2gbps). If I were to switch to a XE5300, my home network would actually _lose_ 400mbps. Of course I don't actually get 1.4gbps at my office iMac - by the time it transits the dedicated Wifi 6 backhaul my iMac gets 842mbps from a satellite LAN port - but that would go down significantly if the speed was bottlenecked at the router modem connection. I was wondering why the Netgear RBKE963 was so much more expensive, but it has a 10gbps WAN port, and the router and satellites additionally have a 2.5gbps high speed LAN port and four 1gbps LAN ports. This means your you can get up to 10gbps from your ISP, and even over Wifi backhaul distribute over 1gbps to your high speed devices. You can also use the 2.5gbps port for wired backhaul. *_Sigh_* ... the $1.5K price was really putting me off, but I guess when my current mesh dies I'll _have_ to consider the RBKE963 ...

@@vernearase3044 You're a fool if you spend that much on consumer trash. Buy real enterprise/prosumer grade set up instead. TP-Link Omada or Ubiquiti UniFi are the way to go. For 1500 bucks you can get very good set up already, with 8 port 2.5Gbit PoE+ switch, couple wireless access points with 2.5Gbit ethernet ports with PoE+, enterprise grade router with proper security features... Or pay massive overprice to consumer level garbage from Netgear.

@@teemuvesala9575 Well, if you want to come over and string 10gb ethernet through my house you're welcome to. Me? I have to make do with dedicated Wifi backhaul and I _don't_ want to have to manually balance and space my access points, nor do I want to have to run a separate DHCP server. Hell, my RBK853s (AX6000) already get me more speed than the Ciscos at work did (before I retired) without the UFOs burning out and constantly being replaced by the network guys ... not to mention that $1,500 is chump change when it comes to implementing an enterprise level setup. Have you strung cat 6 through your entire house, or are you in new construction? If you don't have a full network staff then consumer level stuff is the next best solution - and don't kid yourself, the high end Orbi mesh systems _are_ prosumer level. I've had Wifi 6 mesh thoughout my house for over two years - and I'd only consider going 6e if my Wifi 6 stuff toasted out. The RBKE963 has a a 10 gig LAN port, and the main router and all satellites have a 2.5 gig high speed port as well as four 1 gig ports for wired distribution which pretty much future-proofs my home network until they start offering better than 5 gig service. Heck, just wiring up the house would probably run me twice the cost of the mesh system, let alone outlay for switches and access points which are a lot more complicated to set up and I don't have to dedicate a machine as a DHCP server, let alone suffer through the headache of maintaining it.

@@vernearase3044 Both Omada and Unifi access points can work with wireless backhaul (mesh) these days. So this is no longer an excuse to get consumer trash hardware. The reason to go prosumer/enterprise hardware over consumer is not just because of speed or performance, but also stability and much wider range of options in the settings. Naturally, Omada or UniFi systems are much more scalable as well.

I don’t know what the max number it can take but i would think it would be fine to get another if you were doing wired backhaul. Probably best to ask tp link for the max limit. I know with the nest WiFi it’s 5 units.

Yes you can add an additional unit, but it won't double the range. 7,500 sq feet is for 3 units combined.

I’ve been using an Eero mesh system for a couple of years now, and I’m able to monitor users, set up groups and allow/block devices on my network. WITHOUT requiring a subscription. The only drawback is none of the “Beacons” (extra reception modules that you can place throughout the house) don’t have Ethernet ports. On top of that, I have an old house which has very thick (2” solid wood) walls that at times can get me really poor reception. Do I have to pay a monthly fee (or ?) to TP-link in order to have these same features/services?

Those features are included without a subscription. Tp link does have extra features for a subscription but I don’t need any of those features. Everything you mentioned is already included in the free variant.

Great review! My current home Wi-Fi mesh set-up is having the 2nd mesh connected wirelessly to the 1st mesh and the 3rd is connected via Ethernet to the 1st. My problem lies when turned on simultaneously the 2nd mesh totally loses wireless connection to the 1st mesh. Having Ethernet back haul for the 2nd is not an option due to wifey restrictions inside the house. We seldom use the 3rd mesh located in an extension building..Does having a mesh tri-band solve this problem or a better mesh dual band like tplink ax50 does the job? Have not yet seen any reviews encountering this problem where one mesh is connected wirelessly to the primary and the other via Ethernet.

I set up the 5300 yesterday. It works great. But it is not all that seamless. I did a speed test from one room and got over 200Mbps. I walked to the other room where the other deco was and was getting 10Mbps. I was standing 3 feet away for a few minutes.I had to turn the wifi off and on so it would connect to the router in the room I was currently in. Then I got over 200Mbps. I used a moto g power 2021 phone. So if you're looking for a seamless mesh network this deco isn't seamless, at least with my device.

Try enabling fast roaming in the advanced section (this should help with the switch). I would also enable beam forming.

Can you control if one satellite pig backs off of another or do they both just connect to the main unit?

That’s all automatic, I think they typically try to connect to the main but I imagine it will go through the satellite if it’s too far. I do recommend putting the main one in the middle if possible

OnTP-Link Support site if you pull up the literature for each Version of AXE5300 they are listing or NOT listing what CPU is in the router. I assume Chip shortage issues. My AXE5300 V1.60 has 1.7 GHz Quad-Core CPU while on V2.60 they removed the CPU designation WHY??? Now on AXE5400 V1.0 has a 1.7 GHz Quad-Core CPU, V2.0 1.0 GHz Dual-Core CPU, V2.60 1.0 GHz Dual-Core CPU. My thought now is, is the older versions better with faster processors. On top of that some have HE160 some don't can you explain which is better and does the HE160 account for some of the speed variation on different models or different Versions?

Great Video! I just bought this AXE5300 from Costco primarily because of the range. Where My house is located I do not have any fast options for internet connectivity so I am running a Verizon Jetpack. I intend to connect the Jetpack to one of the AXE 5300 routers using a Mavinex Link PD Pro USB C hub with ethernet . I primarily want to run 6 Blink Security cameras on my property. So the speed does not have to be super fast since the blink cameras do not use a lot of band width, but the range needs to be maximized. As such, Should I turn off the dedicated Backhaul in Wireless Backhaul Mode? Any other suggestions on the settings? There will normally only be 2 other devices on the network, My 27" iMac and my Epson Projector with Built-In Android Auto (For Streaming Movies. Thanks for Your Help, and again, Great Vid.

Thanks! The wireless backhaul option is really just between the deco nodes, depending on how far they are from each other, I would toggle both options and see which one fares better. For me it was with it on. Either way, a 3 pack should encompass your entire home in wifi (unless you're in a mansion or something) so it will work just fine.

Thanks for the review. I live in a house with three floors and no internet wires through the walls, now i use a tp link router and two tp link 605 repeaters. the system runs on tp link mesh. On the first floor the firs repeater has ok connection to the router, but on the ground floor, the repeater is loosing the connection frequently with the router, and the internet speed connection is close to 0 . This is due to the numbers of walls between router and repeater. Do you think that having the dedicated backhaul channel, is possible for me to link the first second unit to the first one, and the third to the second one? Thank you,

If the deco is your only mesh/router then you leave it in router mode. There is no option you need to set for wired or wireless, it’s all automatic.

I've just purchased the Eero Pro 6E and not worried about the price and only wanting the best product, I'm questioning which is better? 1. Eero Pro 6E Package $700 MSRP (3-Pack) Eero Advertises their unit receives - Network coverage up to 6,000 sq ft - Support Up to 100+ devices - Network speeds up to 2.3 Gbps when using both wired (up to a gigabit) and wireless (up to 1.3 Gbps) client devices. - Compatible Thread and Zigbee devices with Alexa. - Doubles as a border router to facilitate connections with Thread-enabled devices. 2. TP-link deco axe5300 6E $355 MSRP (3-Pack) - Network coverage up to 7,200 sq ft - Speeds Up to 5.3 Gbps (5300 Mbps) with Wi-Fi 6E (802.11AX) - Backhaul to Support up to 200 Devices Conclusion: Looking at these claims, the TP-Link "appears" to win in Network Coverage. Support Speeds are questionable because TP-Link doesn't indicate if that 5.3 Gbps is wired or wireless rated but appears Eero may win the speed test, and TP-Link shows a backhaul supporting up to 200 devices again unclear when Eero says 100+. Question: I'd normally say I'd really consider TP-Link however for those who don't care about the price, which of the two is better and does TP-Link support Zigbee devices with Alexa (for the heavy Alexa user)? I personally have over 2 dozen Alexa devices in my home alone and not sure if that matters one way or the other here between the two units? Thoughts?

From my testing, tp link (especially with wireless backhaul) is better even with the price aside. Tp link doesn’t have any zigbee support so you will need a separate hub if you don’t already have one. The 5.3Gbps is referring to a summation of the maximum wireless speeds of each band hence the speed rating of AXE5300. This is true for the eero as well as every router and mesh system. This is why typically triband systems have faster speed ratings than dual band systems since they have an additional band. Bottom line: tp link performs faster. Additional note: If you don’t care about price whatsoever and want ultimate performance. Check out the Netgear Orbi RBKE963 or ASUS ET12 Pro. With that said, the new deco WiFi 6e mesh systems are the best budget performance systems imo

No, I'm not on a budget where I am concerned with money as I run an internet business (who doesn't these days) so I'm all about speed and preventing dropped signals, etc. I do pay for 1GB speeds with my ISP but I do have a number of different rooms/offices and work areas that have varying signal strength and just trying to improve upon it. Do you by any chance have the XE75 Pro, since this doesn't have a 2.5Gbps port. If so, then sure you can do that.

It will only be faster if you have a bigger home and wifi in one area is still weak. Other than that, it’s actually worse to use 3 vs 2 of them if 2 are more than enough to cover your place. I only need 2 for my place, I only connect the third momentarily to update the firmware if need be.

I have 4000 square ft. 3 level house, on an acre. Would you go with the TP Link Deco AXE5300 or the Asus Zen WiFi XP4 and why? TIA

I haven’t tried the XP4 so I can’t say for sure but judging based on specs the XP4 uses power lines to provide better backhaul speeds as compared to wireless backhaul. However the XP4 has slower speed rating compared to the Deco. I personally prefer the Deco between the two since you get a 3 pack instead of a two pack for roughly the same price. The deco has a faster speed rating, supports WiFi 6E and gets fairly good range. I say this only judging based on the specs of the Asus as I haven’t actually tried the Asus.

Well for internet speeds up to gigabit, this is better. For internet speeds faster than gigabit, eero is better since it has a 2.5Gbps port. Deco also has better wireless backhaul performance compared to eero again for up to gigabit speeds

You can on your computer but I'm having trouble remembering if you can directly on the router, since I'm testing the Netgear now. Granted generally speaking, ASUS routers have way more options compared to TP-Link.

They’re essentially the same thing, the XE5300 is the 3 pack Costco version of the XE75.

What does the "Wi-Fi Network & Backhaul" option do if the 6Ghz can only be used for backhaul?

6GHz is only used for backhaul when you select that option. If you select that wifi network and backhaul, then wifi 6e devices can connect to the 6GHz and it's also used as a 6GHz backhaul however the wireless backhaul speeds aren't as fast.

Between this and the eero Pro 6E for someone without any 6E devices, which one would you recommend? I have 800Mbps download and will do wireless backhual. More info: Costco will have a sale for the Deco one for $300 3 pack. And then Amazon recently had a discount for the eero Pro 6E 2 pack for $299. I’ll just need 2 routers for now, will store one if it’s a 3 pack.

I have a Netgear (GS724TPP) 24 port smart managed switch. Can I ethernet backhaul through that switch?

I believe so if you run the managed switch in open mode where it’s basically like an unmanaged switch. If you’re running it like a managed switch with separate vlans and other customizations, then I have no experience with that and this mesh system so I wouldn’t know.

This is a good wifi but not as good as Apple Airport express(to bad they stopped making it and the old one it’s giving me problems lately) the deco works great when you are with in 20’-30’ from it but it drops significantly past that but the Apple airport even 60’ was not a problem….I have some thermometer in my freezer and it has a hard time reaching the deco but no problem with Apple

I don’t have any Wi-Fi 6E devices. In your opinion does this perform better than the deco x60 for Wi-Fi 6 devices? Or would I get the same performance as the deco x60 when it comes to Wi-Fi 6 devices and even Wi-Fi 5 devices?

Thanks! X60 is great just as a heads up. Long story short, in wireless backhaul, this will perform better and this should get more range. If you’re planning on wired backhaul, there won’t be much of a difference between the two for WiFi 6 and WiFi 5 devices

Watching your videos has inspired me to upgrade my home network. Just a week ago i had crappy cable internet and was getting poor speeds, now I’ve upgraded to fiber optic internet 1 gig plan and with these decos my home will be complete. Thank you for your videos

I'm considering buying the Deco 55; do you think it is worth spending an extra $100 to by the XE5300? my current network speed is 500 mbp up and down and I would like the system to cover a large range included outside my home.

If you’re planning on using wireless backhaul, then yes it is. If you’re going to do wired backhaul, not so much worth it, it’s still better but not by much

was going to buy these but I heard the auto port sensing breaks NAS that is plugged into the same unit. That is a HUGE dealbreaker for me. It's been a known issue over a year and still no fix

I have my Synology NAS connected to a switch, no issues. I didn’t try connecting it directly to the deco but on the same network.

@@landpet shouldn't that be the same issue though? The problem seems to be with how it properly assigns WAN vs LAN ports. It's just hilarious they haven't fixed this since 2021 which has always been a problem on earlier decos

I just checked the tp link site since they are very similar and it looks like they have the same specs. So the XE5300 is the 3 pack Costco version of the XE75.

Cat5e supports up to gigabit from what I’ve seen and read . Cat6 can support 10Gb

@@landpet Nope. Cat5e can support 10gbit as well. I believe its like only once you go over 50 meters of cable length you need Cat6 or Cat7 to get 10gbit.

Just as a heads up. Offline doesn't necessarily means its dropped. Are you trying to reach a 2.4GHz device and unable to? Maybe try reconnecting the 2.4GHz device to this.

I think what I saw is you have high router but also you have low end modem. That's why internet speed is terrible. I guess.

My ONT (modem) is fine for my speeds. When I do a speed test over Ethernet, I get the advertised speeds.

Just connect them to the 5GHz band. You can disable the 6GHz band or set the 6GHz as the dedicated backhaul

All these different mesh systems. It's getting rediculous. Which is the one to have that isn't over the average $449 price. 2400 Sq. Ft. Two story house. Gigabit spectrum internet. Tried the Netgear Nighthawk with the additional 2 satellites, but only saw 150 mbps using the wifi back hauling. Getting descent seep upstairs is the problem. Afraid of go with the Orbi as to thinking will need more than the 2 pack.

They completely updated the app and took away a lot of the features. I can no longer disable 2.5, 5GHZ and if you name the WIFI 6E something different it doesn't show up.. I'm seriously on the verge of boxing it up and taking it back to the store.

Idk, not from what I'm aware of. If that's a concern for you, I would use VPN services like ExpressVPN. Using that encrypts everything. Without a VPN, anyone can share your data starting from your ISP.

I ended up returning this to Costco and instead purchasing the Orbi AX6000. The TP-Link has weak coverage, only 4 antennas vs. 8 antennas on the Orbi. The TP-Link has slow upload speeds and it gives me just 20% of my gigabit download speed vs. Orbi I’m getting 70% plus of my gigabit speed vía wifi. It’s basically a dual band because the 6GHZ band is used as backhaul and the nodes need to be no more than 40 feet apart in order for the backhaul connection to be strong. You get what you pay for, and I understand future proof and budgets, but I can’t recommend this TP-Link product at all.

@@Gio-ue8ps it will depend on if you have gigabit plus internet speeds for the model you go with, unless you want to future proof. With wifi 7 making its debut around the corner, wifi 6E will be short lived, and not many devices at the moment will take advantage of the 6ghz frequency, and don’t get caught up with the marketing hype, even for wireless backhaul, the 6ghz frequency is useless unless you have the nodes close to one another.

Orbi RBKE963 is the only quad band available but not many want to pay 1500 to get it. Of course it’s better than this tp link, I agree but I genuinely like this mesh system especially if you’re using wired backhaul which leaves 3 bands to connect to. Great mesh with a great price imo.
