I work from home, so I needed a more robust, secure system.I recently swapped out my build from Nest WiFi to TP Link Omada to achieve that goal and so far I have no regrets. Creating vlans for my work equipment, IoT devices and the kids devices is a blessing in disguise. Being able to set bandwidth limits, as opposed to timed priority on Nest WiFi, is great considering I have multiple gamers with one who likes to stream live while I'm working. No I can allocate the bandwidth to my work equipment, the real money maker...lol.
@UltimateTechHub

The rate limit is an awesome feature for sure! Also, isolating all or parts of your Network from guests is a great way to secure your Network, especially since you work from home. I have a teenager who plays fornite and call of duty online and tends to suck up all my bandwidth but with limiting his bandwidth I'm all good! Thank you for watching Brian have a great day! 😃

Unless something better comes along I'll be sticking with TP Link for me network stuff :-) The Mesh app is great too, just been updated and its so easy to manage my network. Thank you for this intresting video. Got the complete set-up like this in our restaurant. Only with a TL-SG1016PF switch. Question about that, the switch doesn't show in the controller, it says 0 switches. But everything seems to be working fine but just can't see/control it. Any thoughts? Other question, the modem/router provided by the internet provider, do I turn it's firewall off? So it can't give interference with the settings of the Omada router. Thanks in advance, keep up the good work!

Great video! I’ve been installing this system for a while now. I’ve noticed as of the last few installs I’ve had deploying this gear, during the setup process on the app, it’s says “cannot add controller” or “this device doesn’t exist” very strange. I wondered the same thing myself because I also have the Deco Wifi 6 and in the process of switching to Omada. From what I understand the two systems are not compatible and will not work. I also believe that you can put those in stand alone mode and it will broadcast wifi from your wifi router.

Second question from this great video. I’m in apartment now so can’t install a WAP. What do you think about buying them controller, router, and switch initially and use my google wifi router as in bridge mode for wifi. Use this setup until May when I move into my new house where I’ll install the WAP. Just wanted to get your opinion.
@UltimateTechHub
@UltimateTechHub Год назад
You can still use the WAP and just run an ethernet cable from the switch to the WAP and leave it on shelf or table. I would use only Omada hardware to keep everything simple and easy to monitor. You could even mount the WAP to the wall and run the cable from the bottom of the wall to the spot where the WAP is located.
@z8ty
@z8ty 11 месяцев назад
Help me understand your ACL. You stated verbally that "We want to block all networks from accessing IoT devices" - didn't you mean that you want to keep IoT devices from accessing the networks. i.e. - bad player gets access to my thermostat, however, he is stuck because the ACL says no IoT traffic on other VLANs. However, when I need to get to my thermostat I do not have to join the IoT network. It appears the ACL you created does exactly that. So would you need a ACL for each VLAN to stop traffic or could you select more destinations? I am not being critical here, just want to make sure I understand. Thanks again...

Curious why you changed the controller IP to .100.1 from the default 0.1. Is that simply because you don't want it to be common (since many are 0 or 1) or is there a networking reason? As I understand it, you can pay $10/yr/device for their cloud service for remote management? Doesn't the Omada controller have some sort of VPN functionality built in?

Omada does this. Look at hotspot manager function. You can made vouchers which expire. As you can deploy 8 ssid per AP, youl will need a couple of them. I would go one on one ssid per plot. I see 14 AP planned times 8 equals 112 possible different ssids. But more plot could eventually use the same ssid as well. Deploy hotspot manager within omada controller. It will do the job.

How about if you have a guest in your network and you are on the other VLAN how do you AirDrop or share things across apple devices? If someone knows a a complete guide no matter if its video or written please let me know. @vilifyahuman Did you figure this out? I’d like to use one on my home WiFi as well, but not sure how to configure it since it appears to need special configuration.

Are these “controllers” really necessary? Seems like a gimmick device that has features that should be right in the router anyway?

The controller isn't really necessary. You don't need it to manage the network.

@@UltimateTechHub wow thanks for the fast response! the reason i asked is because i just installled an access point using ethernet to an outbuilding on my property. my “ap” is actually an outdated asus router that isn’t even compatible with ai mesh. all i did was give it the same ssid and pw as the main router and i noticed that as i roam around the property, my devices seem to just automatically switch between my router and ap depending on which one i’m getting the strongest signal from. i thought maybe the controller had something to do with seamless roaming.
