Hi guys,
Interesting bit of kit, the TP-Link TL-ER5120 Load Balancing Gigabit Router, in this video I unbox it, explain what it can do and we have the usual look at the WebUI, do a speed test etc :
www.tp-link.com/en/products/de...
Its a Gigabit router with Multi WAN load balancing capability so you can connect up to 4 different WAN connections (i.e. internet connections). I used it to more than double my internet bandwidth by getting it to load balance two internet connections to my house using my two phone lines. It does cost more money, but for some people, like me, it is the only practical option to increase your internet bandwidth as there is no fibre or cable where I live in the beautiful countryside :)
Have a play with the emulators on the TP-Link website :
www.tp-link.com/en/emulators.html
Remember - this router has NO MODEM and NO WIRELESS so if you want a simple one box solution or have only one phone line its not for you. If you want to double your internet speed, and can afford to pay for two internet connections (of any type, you can mix them) then this box can join them together and allow users to transparently use both. Note : each individual connection is limited to the maximum speed of one link unless it uses multiple connections (like Bittorrent for example)
EDIT : After using the TL-ER5120v2 I found that although it did work it had some stability issues in my usage case and I felt the support leaves something to be desired.
I have since upgraded to a different multi-WAN option and in general I no longer think this unit is a good option - I think there are better units on the market - read the comments for more detail.
If you have any questions then feel free to stick a comment on the video and I will do my best to answer!
