Get the TPCAST Wireless adapter for HTC Vive or Oculus Rift from my Amazon recommended VR-gear list: www.amazon.com/shop/sweviver Thanks for supporting my channel, guys!
Thank you so much Sebastian :) Sorry I still havent replied to your last email, I will do so asap :) Been just so freaking busy with making this video hehe, took me more than 2 ways hehe... Talk to you later! Cheers
From what I have read in the TPCAST user Discord, the software may not be able to be updated to make the microphone or front camera function with the TPCAST. They are working on some enthusiast made hacks that will hopefully add functionality. Currently OpenTPCAST uses VirtualHere for the USB traffic as an example which can eliminate the need for the router. So if folks are concerned with the microphone or the front camera, there's likely not going to be an official fix, but they can stay tuned to OpenTPCAST updates from users who are trying to improve the TPCAST base.
Hey Erik, thank you very much for the input, very interesting! I have been hanging around in the DIscord for a few days now but I have not yet read all about it. I will give the OpenTPCAST a try soon, sounds hopeful at least :) Not that I really need microphone actually, but it would be nice to get it to work for multiplayer games at least so I dont need to wear a bulky VOID headset on top :) Cheers mate!
While we can't do anything about the camera, the mic is an easy fix. You could simply use any wireless mic and set that as your audio input device on steam.
For the cost though it really should be natively supported... I'll wait and see if Intel's solution will fix the issue and hopefully drive the price down.
VirtualHere is already able to use the microphone successfully. Since the VirtualHere custom firmware can use the microphone, then so should TPcast be able to update their own drivers to use the microphone. i'm pretty sure TPcast don't need a hardware update to solve this issue, and can do so with a firmware update.
got mine working just now. At first, the HMD stayed in idle mode (red light on the side of the vive), even though the tpcast software was successful. After restarting, re-plugging, switching usb ports, I contacted their livechat which, as crazy as it sounds, helped me. After I disconnected the usb and dcin from the link box (not the orange side, but the one going from box to computer or power socket to box) it worked for me. Started some games and it works as intended. PC transmitter does the noise, but for me it's not noticeable with the audio deluxe head-strap. One huge problem is that green line some notice. I definitely see it while gaming normally. I have my HMD set to minimal distance for the lens-to-eye setup. I use the standard Vive faceplates. Have to check what's causing the problem. When I'm dialing the lenses further away from my face it disappears, but my FOV is sub-optimal, like I used to have it. Even if wireless is a huge pro, this green line is the no-go for me. I could live with the mic-problem, since you just buy a separate one and voilà. The noise of the transmitter is also, not much louder than that of the lighthouses. Great review anyway. Keep them coming
Hey SweViver great video but I have a question about what extra Battery I should order for my TPCast that I preordered. Can u put an amazon link by chance? Thanks again!
Thanks Dennis and sorry my late reply, been busy lately but trying to catch up here finally :) Here is the battery: www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerCore-20100-Capacity-Technology-Black/dp/B00VJSGT2A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1510390920&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+battery
Good job man, lots of good info there. Yeah it would be nice to have those 4 issues fixed, but no deal-breakers there for me. Already ordered my TPCast this morning here in the U.S., and I can't wait to go wireless!
Thanks mate and sorry for my late reply, trying to catch up here :) As far as I know the microphone issue can be fixed now with a custom software/firmware OpenTPCAST, but I have not yet tried it. I know the youtuber VoodooDE did it and it works great with microphone and also the second USB works now as well. Im happy you ordered it, hope you will enjoy wireless VR soon! :)
Thanks for the reply, and the info on the fixes! My TPCast shipped yesterday (I opted for FedEx ground) and is predicted to reach me next Wednesday...just when I'm traveling for Thanksgiving, lol Going wireless is going to be awesome though. I also ordered a molle-compatible belt and pouch for the battery, partly because the belt that comes with the TPCast looks a little flimsy for me--as does the puch for the battery--, and partly because I wanted a more robust belt that could also handle having a Vive Tracker being attached to it at the same time (I'm hoping to eventually use with ArmSwinger locomotion for directional hip tracking--hopefully in Fallout 4 VR). I've been playing Dead Effect 2 VR and it's lots of fun, but will be greatly improved by not having a cable to get tangled in.
Really nice review, for my point of view and sawing your review my conclusion is to wait for a better tpcast ! I have a Question why have you stop doing mixed reality ? does this have to do with a TpCast limit ? your mixed reality videos were really great :) In fact it was mixed reality that pointed me to you channel, continue with the awesome work ! cheers, Epsy
Thanks mate! :) TPCAST is a great solution, but of course it has some flaws and its quite expensive, so its not for everyone unfortunately. Good question mate :) First off there are not much good VR games supporting MR lately, and doing videos of poor games just for the MR feels boring. Also, MR takes much more time and preparations + editing, and I have been lacking free time lately, so thats why I havent made any MR videos for a while. But as soon as I find some cool game supporting MR, I will definitely publish a video :) No, TPCAST does not affect MR at all, so no problem :) But I promise I will make more MR, especially when Unreal Engine gets the support added soon, really looking forward to that! Cheers
Thank you so much mate, Im really happy you enjoyed it! :) this is so far the only available wireless solution for VR, so I hope you will find it useful - it will also be available for Rift soon! Thanks again and have a lovely night, cheers
got the New TP cast for Christmas and just had time to set it up today. just a note does not work with SteamVR Beta ( lighthouses intermittent connection, wands not connecting). reverted to normal steamvr and everything worked fine. The green line was there but I pushed the lens out one notch and used a thinner mask and that seemed to do the trick. same FOV but no green line. hope this saves someone spending ages sorting out. Thanks for the great vids.
Great video. With the issues in the current unit I'll wait for either a sale or for a firmware fix, or I'll wait and see what the DisplayLink Wireless VR can do.
Thanks Kasper :) Yeah there are some issues but actually u can fix the microphone and second usb port by using a custom OpenTPCAST firmware! Not sure about the warranty after that though...
Thats a shame i'd hoped for at least an integrated steam vr dashboard app to monitor it with. Thanks for the otherwise really well explained evaluation. :)
Hi SweViver, i think the microphone and camera would require more bandwidth to be sent wireless, so maybe it would end up compromising the image quality and maybe more battery power
Marcelo Neves hey mate! Yep, thats probably the case with the camera, but microphone sound shouldn't use much bandwidth I guess? Well im not 100% sure but I still hope they can fix the microphone with software update :) cheers
Hi, great review. Receive mine tomorrow! Just one question & apologies for being a bit dim here, you say the camera doesn’t work, does that mean the chaperone doesn’t work?? I only ask as I have been using my Vive seated all the time as a have a small office & the Tpcast will allow me to move to a larger room.
Hey Rick :) Thank you very much, I appreciate it! No, the chaperone works fine as its dependent on your room-scale setup and not the camera, so dont worry :) The front-camera is only used for having a "matrix"-like view of your real-life room if you turn it on. Most people dont even use it. Also the camera cam be used as usual webcam in Windows, but with TPCAST its totally unavailable. But anyway, chaperone works as usual :) Cheers
Great review!. Only a question: Is the new software compatible with the Chinese version? Will the same hardware work for the oculus? Ops! 2 question! Sorry
el retratero thanks mate :) Im pretty sure the Chinese TPCAST needs the older version of the software as I remember 3 months back I first tried the newer software (that already existed back then) with my Chinese unit and it didnt work until I installed the old software. Not sure if that is fixed now, but I doubt that. I think its all about the router being different with the EU version. Currently it does not worj and with Rift. A Rift-compatible version is coming soon but im not sure if it will be a totally new version or just some addon for the existing one. We will see about that soon, I hope :)
Thanks mate, Im glad u enjoyed it :) I think i added some footage from Alpha Mike Foxtrot, Overkill VR, Overturn VR, Robinson The Journey, Dead Effect 2 VR and some more i may have forgotten now :)
Hehe Im happy for you and Im glad I could help out a little :) Nah, I dont care about commission, I do this for fun and I love to spread the word about great VR tech that I admire, thats enough for me :)
Thanks a lot mate :) Yep, AMF is awesome, Im gonna try to have a gameplay video up soon :) Indeed, wireless VR is a huge step forward and once you get used to it, its very hard to go back to those wires again hehe! Cheers
Wound be useful if you could put section timestamps in the description (of the sections you talk about in the beginning of the video). So that we can tap/click on them to navigate. A bit annoying with so much ads but thanks for the review!
Andreas Zetterlund thanks for the tip, i promise to remember this for future review videos. Yeah ads could be annoying but at least it pays some games in the end hehe.. cheers
30:00 Just something regarding restarting Steam VR, you can right click it and press 'Devices' and Reboot VR instead of closing and opening it. (Regards swapping batteries portion)
it works i switched out the micro sd card and installed the new open tp cast firmware and if you want to go back just swap out the micro sd card with the original
Yep, it sounds simple:) What im worried about is voiding the warranty because u are practically unscrewing and opening the battery-holder. Still awaiting response from TPCAST team about this...
Thanks for the balanced and honest review SweViver! I am looking forward to trying this but agree it is quite expensive at this price. This does sound like a great piece of kit though because at the moment I think you have to keep a subconscious thought towards where the cable is in 'reality' so as not to trip or tangle it. Also I hate the cable tugging on my head - I think the headset should feel lighter with the TP Cast because you don't have 1.5-2m of cable hanging off of the back of your head. I normally get a metal clip and clip the cable to my t-shirt on my shoulder so that it reduces the tugging issue. All in all I think it looks like a must have for serious users and I think the microphone and camera could be fixed with software eventually. Thanks again :-)
Thanks a lot Oliver :) Im glad u liked it! Yep its not cheap and has its flaws but it really is a huge step forward in VR going wireless. I know the feeling, I hate those cables and i promise u its even more frustrating if u go back from wireless back to wired VR as I do on my Rift ;) cheers and thanks for watching, hope u will enjoy wireless VR soon!
Wow thats awesome Aldris, Im happy for you and Im sure u will love it. Wireless VR is really a big step in immersion, let me know once u tried it first time :) Cheers
Very thorough review! I was just about to add one of these to cart until you mentioned the built in microphone doesn't work with it :( Thanks for the review! I hope you keep us updated on any fixes, subbed.
Thanks a lot mate! There is actually a custom fix (firmware) to make the microphone and secons usb port to work, its called OpenTPCAST. The german VR RU-vidr VoodooDE tried it and it works fine. Note that its not official and may void the warranty. I will try it out soon and report back! Cheers and have a nice weekend :)
Was about to order one. Have reconsidered ... I will wait on the tech a little longer. I bought DK1, DK2, Gear, Rift and Vive +two new controllers; I feel I have given enough financial support, for the time being, to vr.
I think its not a bad decision to wait for the TPCAST 2.0 coming out later this year, that will support all headsets up to 8K resolution (they say at least). Yep, VR is quite expensive hehe! Cheers
Did you notice a downgrade in the quality of the music playback? I seem to remember that that was a factor on the Chinese TPcast. I am still on the fence whether to buy one. The not working microphone is, as you said, a deal breaker.
Actually, I totally forgot to cover that in this review, sorry for this. To be honest I did not notice the sound being worse than usual, but as you may know I have been using the Chinese TPCAST for 3+ months now, so maybe I have gotten used to the compressed sound by now. But anyhow, I did not feel the sound or music in the headphones was worse this time, but I remember when I went from wired Vive to TPCAST I could tell the difference. Its a tricky question actually. I will need to try the same games with Oculus Rift and compare the sound quality. I will for sure report back as soon as I have done so! :) Cheers
You could try connecting the TPCast router to your home router/switch/hub with an Ethernet crossover cable, if it works then you won't need buying another Ethernet card for your PC.
Great review as always Martin. I have 2 questions. 1) what would happen if you completely left your play space, like going bathroom quick and didnt want to take off the battery, so not in view of tp cast transmitter or vive basestations, would all it just spring back to life when u reenter the room? 2) whats support for the next gen headsets like, like the pimax 5k and 8k, im guessing this wont work with the higher bandwidth video signal? Cheers.
+Hudson Marine hi mate :) thank u very much! 1. Actually i tried to go to the toilet once with the headset on (maybe 10 meters away) and as soon as I went back the signal was still there and everything worked fine. I assume aa long as its constantly connected through wifi with the router it should not disconnect. But I will do more tests to confirm that! :) 2. Nope, I doubt this unit will support Pimax because of higher bandwidth and resolution, and it looks like Pimax will have its own solution or another company making the wireless adapter. The current TPCAST does only work with Vive but a Rift version or modification is coming soon they say :)
SweViver i really want this product, its in stock at a bunch of my usual pc hardwate suppliers, but at £320 with the next gen headsets just around the corner plus with the issues u describe im not sure i can warrant it, not at that price for potentially only a few months useage :-/
I fully understand u mate, its not a cheap device. Im not sure though if next gen is around the corner, Im hoping for the Pimax Kickstarter batch to arrive in Q1 2018 but retail sales may wait until summer or fall, so its a hard decision to make, invest further in Vive or not :)
Im gonna see if i can demo it first i think, i could live with most of the issues you mention but the green and blue bars concern me a little, im using the 6mm VR cover at the mo.
I managed to get a retail one off amazon and agree with you, there is a green hue in the right side of the right eye. And i had to mount my antenna directly on the ceiling pointing down to get best coverage. But i would not go back to a cable even if the image was better (it is not).btw my area is pretty large 4x5m and no range issue either. P.s. thanks for making the videos they are well done.
Awesome Jim, Im glad u are happy with it :) Yeah there are still flaws but as u say, wireless is really big step in VR immersion and i would never go back either hehe. And thanks a lot for watching! Cheers
I got this in the USA and have all sorts of problems. It almost never connects via the software and even when it does steam doesn’t always recognize the headset being available. I immediately contacted to support and they told me they would contact me and never have. Any help resolving theses issues would be great. Is there a way to reset hardware firmware? I am so trusted I reached out to return exchange the unit and they haven’t even contacted me back.
Hey mate! That sounds very strange :( I have not had those issues at all, nor with my Chinese or the EU version of TPCAST. Maybe you got a faulty unit? Im not sure about the firmware as I never tried to reset it. I really think you should contact them again and demand some help, otherwise you should make a refund or ask for a replacement unit. Those issues should not exist and I have not heard about them until now... Wish you good luck mate, and sorry I couldnt help you out :( Cheers
SweViver spent 3 hours with several different support people today and after asking 20 times and doing the same steps over and over again they gave me an email address to send info for an rma. They are supposed to get back to me in 24-48 hours. I’ll update everyone with what happens
lee whicker K, so I went through that for four hours last night. Sucked. But I'm pretty sure I figured out the problem. The wires that go into the headset, one was like a millimeter out, and that was screwing everything.
The TPCast for oculus rift costs no less than a wooping 2591dkk - thats only 408dkk less than the Oculus rift itself. I am curious how many sek did you end up spending on the vive version?
while getting TPCAST for now i dont think is a good idea, i would say wait for TPCAST Version 2.0 maybe? like you said it took 8hr to charge is dam long, let give them more time for the further innovation on this, also the price with add on can buy Pimax 8k Headset itself, too bad i miss the pledge, may i know when is the next pledge or order? :(
Meister Lew Im not sure if there will be a TPCAST 2.0 but I'm pretty sure Pimax will bring a nice wireless adapter solution some time next year, as they promise to :) The Kickstarter has ended now, so now they will finalise the 8K model and start shipping it to all backers hopefully in January/February. They say once all backers have received their orders, they will start taking new orders on their website and other stores, so lets hope it will be around february-march or april! :)
The TPcast looks awsome and this review is top notch. Sadly having to connect to a router or having to get a second ethernet port on my computer is not possible for me. I do not think I can use this 😥
Martin you saved my life. If I had to go back on the phone and spend another hour + being frustrated by TPCAST phone support only people only to find they have no idea how to get the router up and running or anything else useful for that matter I would probably jump off a bridge. Thank you for the tip about buying a USB to ethernet adapter. You walk on water dude. TOCAST need to get their crap together a wifi router in the install? Early reviews made no mention about his. I wonder why?
Hehe thank you so much Donald, Im very glad to hear that from you mate :) Im always happy to be able to help a little! Yeah its strange they need a router, I wish the tracking data could be sent with a simple USB dongle or something, but obviously a router is the only way to go right now... Cheers mate and have a nice day :)
Hey again! I have a question. Do you know what type of Battery it takes? I'm getting the consumer american version. Not sure if its the same as the one you have though... I just want to get some extra batteries for backup and read that it uses this one: Anker 20100mAh Portable Charger PowerCore 20100 but just want to be for sure before buying a few.
Hey Dorthory and sorry my late reply. Yep its the Anker PowerCore 20100mAh battery, there are 2 versions of it and both works great. They have both dual 2.4A outputs.
o man cant wait for this to become available here in Canada First gen VR is just made up of a ton of addons now lol Cooling fans, wireless, better head strap.. now we wait for those knuckle controllers
Hey mate! Has the US/Canada release been postponed again? Last time I checked it was announced for November as well. Yep, this first gen VR is really developing! :) Ahh those Knuckles, I would do anything to get my hands on them haha!
Not sure if I´m more bothered by the short runtime and long loadingtime of the batteries then the cables do bother me. With my ceilingmount for the cable, I´m not so much distracted by the cables at all. Even if they are making it now for the Rift too, I don´t think I´ll get one. Let´s see what the Pimax Wireless Module will offer. [edit]Oh and of course the not working Mic is a nogo.
Personally I'll certainly wait. There's that discount from the Pimax kickstarter to consider, once they tell us what module they're recommending... though I was silly enough to go for the 8K X, so going wireless would likely be a ridiculous drop in quality. Better to save it for the best GPU I can get after the 8K X is launched.
Since I plan on replacing my Vive with the Pimax 8K in January, I don't think it is worth buying for only a few months of use. If TPCAST had been a little faster to the market they would have gotten my money.
Disappointed that TPCast has not solved the stock microphone problem. This is going to render the unit useless for some of the most popular games out there currently, let alone in the future. Very worrying, if they are being considered for the Pimax wireless solution, where you will have many more add-ons needing support. Hopefully Pimax will understand that no support for microphones, handtracking, eye tracking, Etc. will be completely unacceptable in a wireless solution. :0(
I think i will get it. The price is expensive but fair being such an unique item atm. For the same reasons i think has a value for collection purposes. I pick this over the Pimax while looking ahead for Vive 2 or Oculus 2.
Yep, wireless VR is something really unique and a real wow factor in the beginning. Once u get used to it u will never want to go back to those cords hehe. Good luck mate and hope u will enjoy it! :)
Thank you for your detailed review. I had the tpcast preordered untill I backed the pimax. I think I will wait for a better solution, at least I am not really convinced for 350 €.
I have a problem using my TPCAST. Everything connects, the TPCAST system identifies everything right, however, when connecting the STEAM VR system the HTC VIVE does not appear the image, it is erased, but when I re-screen the system the STEAM VR appears as if everything was normal. Do you know why this occurs?
so since this is wireless does this mean i can get up off my chair and walk around my room without worrying about cables ( although ill have to worry about walls lol ). in your demo showing it in use you didnt move from a single spot.
Yep hehe thats wireless VR :) True, I havent been thinking about it. Actually in my previous TPCAST reviews (made totally 4 videos) when I was using the Chinese version, I walked around a lot in my room, from edge to edge trying to find some weak spots but I couldnt find any :) It just works! Cheers
I wonder if your gaming headset would fit between the tpcast and your Vive? Have you tried? i mean if that would work then it would cut down on the heat transfer ? maybe still to bulky?
Hmm interesting, I never tried that. I usually never use the headset anymore, but for multiplayer that would maybe be an option. I will probably give it a try this weekend :) Thanks for your hint! Cheers
Thats true! But the problem is that the TPCAST "connection" needs to be finished before SteamVR starts, so Im not sure how that would work :) Ive noticed that starting Steam VR too early can cause the TPCAST not to show anything, even if it gets fully connected after a few seconds. I will elaborate more and report back! Cheers
John Locke make hardware reviews now ? :P Awesome review , i was hopping the customer version fix all chinese issues... thats a big let down... well i buy it any way ^_^
Haha thanks mate :) Yeah, issues are not really fixed yet, but the custom OpenTPCAST firmware actually fixes the microphone and USB issue. I have not yet tried it, but I will soon! :) Cheers
Great video! Thanks for mentioning the detail you did on the negatives...haven't seen those mentioned elsewhere and the sound one in particular would annoy me and surprises me that past European standards with that noise :(
Thank u very much mate 😍 Yeah even if i think TPCAST is awesome and I would never go back to wired, I still think its important to inform u all about the issues, even though the issues are small for me :) But i guess they could be deal breakers for many others!
Thanks for the awesome video's, but I have one question though. I bought the TPcast after watching your vid's mainly because you said it had a few issues, but the connection was flawless. Mine does have intermittent tracking loss resulting in a grey screen for a second or so. I tried and checked everything over and over even buying a second ethernet port, but nothing changes. I know more people have this problem and they can't find a solution either. Do you know a fix for this?
Thanks mate! Hmm I know some people had this issue but fixed it by either changing Wifi channel on the TPCAST router (tracking is sent by router) or change the wifi connection in router settings (u have to log in) to "11a only". It should help! :) Let me know when u tested it! Cheers
Hehe thanks a lot mate :) Well, Im sure you can play almost any Vive game on the Rift? Also the Rift version of TPCAST is coming soon, and I will for sure get it and make a full review and gameplays with it :) Hope you will like it! Cheers
Sweviver what was that game you werr playing around 45 seconds in it was a good graphic shooter where you were running around with another guy please let me know it looks really good and its hard to find good games for the vive cause of all the JUNK on steam
Have you tried using the EU version and using a yellow port, connected to your normal router? I have my Internet setup by using TP-Link (1Gbps) router linked to my ISP router. All my ISP router does is pass through the internet. Everything else on my network connects to the TP-Link router through wifi or ethernet cables and switches. After all the TPCAST router is just a router, so I'm unsure why it can't just be set up as a second router if things were setup correctly. As for the app - I'm guessing that the STEAMVR app file could be renamed to something else. Then a batch file (.bat) compiled into an .exe file, that could be programmed to call the TPCAST file and the renamed STEAMVR file. Having the batch .exe file being renamed to what the STEAMVR originally was, and dropped to where the STEAMVR file lives. That way, when STEAM called the STEAMVR file, it would start the new STEAMVR batch .exe, then that would start the TPCAST app and the STEAMVR app. I have a few games already setup like this already, because I want some mods added to a game. As for the mic, like I've said before, I'm sure something like an "Antlion Audio ModMic Attachable Boom Microphone - Noise Cancelling with Mute Switch" could be used with a 3rd party bluetooth transmitter kit, that you could charged, by the USB port. It is nice that a pouch and belt has been added to the kit. It's just a shame that it's all going for around £320 at the moment. I'm personally put off by the idea of coil whines and the green line for £320. Especially when they were suppose to be releasing it for ~£200. Personally, I think I'll wait until the "Display Link Wireless VR" comes out, and see how well they do, plus a price war is always a good thing!
What kind of speed are you getting off of the TPCast router? I've real elsewhere that its LAN ports are only 100Mbps, and that's all I'm seeing from it in my network properties for that connection. I have a direct CAT6 connection to a TPLink PCIe gigabit card with 1000mbps set for speed (manual) and the choke point does seem to be the TPCast router. I've tried everything I can think of to try to get 1000Mbps from their router, but nothing worked...
Does anyone know if they're working on a non-router solution? Possibly a dongle for the pc or something? That's the only thing keeping me from buying this (currently $299 in America)
Thanks for the great review. I have just ordered one based on it. However, I would like to buy an extra battery pack but there are so many different kinds of Anker powercores that I am worried I may buy the wrong one. Please can you give some model number or a link or something so I can buy the compatible one. Thanks
Rykk Chii thanks mate, i hope u will enjoy wireless VR :) There are at least 2 versions of the Anker Powercore 20100 compatible with TPCAST. One is: www.anker.com/products/variant/PowerCore-20100mAh/A1271012 And the other looks like this: www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerCore-Ultra-High-Capacity-Portable/dp/B00M0EWED0?SubscriptionId=AKIAJIYNF643F4NAP3YA&tag=pcad03-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00M0EWED0&ascsubtag=06-3630894-01-3630913
Hey mate! Yeah I forgot to mention they added some magnetic-thing on the short hdmi cable, probably helps interference but u can of course take it off if u want. Not sure if it really helps or not ;)
Hey ! :) "Once you go wireless you do not want to go back" - true :) Great review thanks! :) Although I will not change my wireless setup for the moment, I was very curious how the new TPCast looks. Too bad it has the same disadvantages as the Chinese ones. Still, I think if I could afford to buy it, I would not even consider 2 seconds.
Thanks mate :) Haha yeah that is so true! Yep, it is a little disappointing to see that the biggest issues are still not fixed. Some people report now that the microphone could be used if a OpenTPCAST software is installed, but I didnt know that until now. I will give it a try. Indeed, if microphone or camera isnt a big issue and if the wallet accepts it, I think TPCAST is a great device, as wireless VR is a game changer, maybe even more than high resolution and higher FOV to be honest :) Cheers
Hmm actually only once but it was fixed when I unplugged the battery and connected it again, restarted the TPCAST software and steam VR. Is the indicator on the Vive green or red while this happens?
I just got mine bit of troubles but when it works its the same as cable I don't see green line and that buzz sound people are talking about is nothing or its fixed with the usa one
Hi, cool video SweViver, Is it possible to connect the router to a switch? because my setup is: Router (Fritzbox) --> switch --> PC I have only one ethernet port on my pc and do not want to slow my internet down.
Thanks Fabian, and Im so sorry I totally missed your comment and replying so late! Hmm Im not sure actually, I use a router at home, connected to a 24 port switch, but I never tried connecting TPCAST router to it. Theoretically it SHOULD work. But the easiest solution would be to buy a cheap USB 3,0 network card, and plug the TPCAST router to it. I know the RU-vidr VoodooDE did that and it works great! :)
thanks for your answer. Better late than never ;) Yea i have a USB2.0 100Mbit Ethernet adapter that works too, so i can use my normal ethernet port for internet. The new freedom of movement is massive and worth every euro :P
Can't we just remove the deluxe audio strap's headphones and use bluetooth headphones with a built in mic to solve the mic issues? Such as a wireless (Bose)
Yep, I wonder that too. Im 100% sure that I did not see ANY distortion while trying the v2 prototype, which is the same unit as Linus tested. It may have to do something with the IPD not being adjustable on v2 and therefore some people dont get the right 3d stereoscopic view from both eyes correctly. Well, I dont know, Im kind of clueless about Linus statement, as I can promise you that I did not see any distortion, stretching or warping at all. I have really no intention to hide something. I really looked for flaws and almost WISH I saw some warping just to satisfy all people asking for it hehe, but my eyes simply couldn't see it.
Damn, I KNEW I forgot something in this review! :) Sorry mate! Actually, I never noticed the sound being worse than usual, but as you may know I have been using the Chinese TPCAST for 3+ months now, so maybe I have gotten used to the compressed sound by now. But anyhow, I did not feel the sound or music in the headphones was worse this time, but I remember when I went from wired to TPCAST I could tell the difference. Its a tricky question actually. I will need to try the same games with Oculus Rift and compare the sound quality. I will for sure report back as soon as I have done so! :) Cheers
mic issue can fixed with custom fix from: github.com/OpenTPCast/Docs i need only some 2-4 hours for loading my anker... use stronger (2milliampere) charging cable...
I will try out the OpenTPCAST solution, thank you very much Horst! :) Oh 2-4 hours? Wow, I have tried several 2.0 A chargers and also a 2.4 charger but it was still charging at least 8 hours from 0 to 100%. I really need to investigate this, thanks for the heads up!
Over here (Netherlands) its 350 and i was seriously considering getting one, but if i cant use the mic, and it adds some green line to my screen, wth, ill wait till it drops in price more. and/or till we get the Intel+Valve version, im fairly sure that wont have these weird issues.
Thanks for the answer. Do you think it's worth it? Did you have a problem with the games? I have a VR company and would like to place them and remove the wires, which by the way, are extremely fragile.
Hey Romulo and sorry my late reply, been a busy week at work :( For me its 100% worth it as I think wireless VR is awesome and so much more immersive playing with total freedom. But it depends if you want to spend 300-350 usd on just a wireless dongle. For the same amount of money u get a Rift bundle :) But Im sure you will love TPCAST once you try it and you will never go back to corded VR again! Nope, no problems with games whatsoever, it just works :)
Thanks for the answer. I live in Brazil and here there are no products for the HTC VIVE however I get to buy from the US for the price US $ 299.00. Tomorrow will come and I'll do the tests. In my company I already did the exchange of 3 cables for failure in HDMI. As the customer rotates the body, the cable will rooting inside until it begins to fail. At the device level, HTC should have tougher cables Thanks again.
I always watch your videos and I follow your channel since I started in the VR business. Your opinions and experience add a lot to my company. Articles related to the HTC VIVE here are difficult even by the high cost of the device. This week I'll take the Doom VFR, Tomb Raider and Justice League games. If you can, follow our page and feel free to give your opinion on any post. So let me get this straight if I have a wireless headset such as the Sony gold's I can play with a mic and headphones this way it works with a dongle I know uncomfortable together but I want rid of that dang wire and I play multiplayer a lot
Mainly Alpha Mike Foxtrot, Overkill, Overturn, Dead Effect 2VR, Quake 2 VR mod, The gallery ep 2, Robinson the Journey. Maybe i forgot some hehe, not sure :)
Im not sure so I cannot answer that question, but I assume it should work, as its all about having a second network card, and it shouldnt matter if its USB or PCI-e. But im not 100% sure, so I think its best if you ask around about it :)
Yes any extended network card works, the TPcast have 100mpbs slot... i use this anker usb to gigabit: www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00NPJV4YY?ref_=pe_1020741_49284081
I think the TPCAST 2.0 coming out later this year will support all headsets up to 8K resolution (they say at least). But the current TPCAST does only support Vive and Rift with separate versions for each.
So it seems that TPCAST didn't NOTHING in the last months? So ultra frustrating that even the USB port doesn't work... I will get my unit in some days, something is wrong with the delivery service in Germany at the moment... I don't care about the noise or the camera, but the missing USB und microphone is a REAL deal breaker for me...
VoodooDE Yeah surprisingly they have not fixed those issues yet, I was at least hoping for microphone support in this version! Hmm so strange, I know many people have got their TPCAST in Germany already, you should contact the delivery company and see whats wrong!
hi, ich gehe davon aus, dass wenn du mit einem zusätzlichen Mikrofon bspw. ein Standmikrofon im Raum arbeitest, du auf den fehlenden miksupport verzichten kannst. Hi i think you can solve the missing mic problem if you use an additional microphone like a standing mic or a wireless for example.
Hello, follow the link below to see the description of a software patch to support microphone function on TPCAST Wireless Adapter for HTC Vive. bit.ly/tpcast_microphone_htcvive - Upgrade your TPCAST wireless adapter for VIVE to support microphone function
no they shouldn't I have about 4 - 5 inches between mine, multiple items in the house using WIFI, phones, tablets, laptop and not had any issues. the only issue you may have is if you connect the TPcast router through your main router, you will likely notice loss of speed especially watching online movies/tv or online gaming. best to connect it to a second network port, if you only have 1 port just buy a PCI card as I did, cheap and easy to do. the TPcast software found it and set it up with no problems. hope this helps. TPcast is amazing by the way.
You can find those batteries in many local and online shops, they are called Anker PowerCore 20100. Here is an example: www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerCore-20100-Capacity-Technology-Black/dp/B00VJSGT2A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1510390920&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+battery
Super-sampling don't work like that. It does not increase the size of the Video stream since it renders larger picture it's heavy on your video card but it still downsize the picture to whatever display you use.
Exactly, its upscaled and then still downscaled to HMD resolution so the image signal and bandwidth is the same. Thats why SS works great with TPCAST :)
Your have made up my mind. I'll wait for a while. To many bugs, install issues. Rather have a good experience rather than get a hammer at it! Wait for v 2.0.
I fully understand you mate. Install is not a big issue, but of course there are some issues with microphone, camera and stuff.. There is a custom firmware called OpenTPCAST that fixes the mic issue but its not official and may void your warranty... Anyway, its never a bad idea to wait ;) Cheers
