Video 8 Of The Precision Rifle Reloading Series (Part 2 of 2)
Alright, here is the conclusion to the precision rifle reloading series with part two of episode eight. The harmonic barrel tuner test took a lot of shooting, reloading and time, but the results are in. I'm sure folks out there will still probably have their doubts about the effectiveness of these devices, so I hope this video puts some of that doubt to rest.
The Harrell's tuner brake used in this video is a very well made unit. It's easy to use, visually appealing and effective. A big thank you to Dave at the Crumlin Gun Club for providing these brakes for this video and another big thank you to everyone who reached out with advice on how to conduct the tuner test. Much appreciated.
See you guys on the next video.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!!!!!!!
-Shawn

Glad to hear you are getting some rifle orders lined up. Exciting times!
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
There are quite a few TPM rifles out there, all have been shooter. Keep those orders coming.

Hearing good things about your work
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Howdy!!! Long time no talk. Word is getting around about the TPM rifles in the wild. This is just the beginning.

Sounds like you are getting after it!

Another point to be made. If you have a cartridge that struggles to work with powders available to get that speed you are looking for, or just little to choose from,this tuner may be the system to work with. Stuck on ball powders that vary in speed like a 6arc may help work a tune as wide temp swings. Just a thought!

Great series. I missed a few if the earlier videos, but definitely worth watching the series from the beginning. I’ve shot up enough factory Lapua to be able to start handloading it for 6mm BR.

those are the benches my son made
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Having had to move those benches around for matches in the past, I would like to give your son a handshake. Those are THE most sturdy benches I’ve ever seen.

The other day I also had a speed increase on my loads and noticed my impacts were highier. Since I couldn't find brass, I tried different brand of brass; this new brass is thicker therefore had more pressure thus the reason of my velocity increase. Now I will have to adjust my powder charge for this new brass. Thanks man another great video.
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I've had that happen before, with 6 Creedmoor in fact - Hornady brass and Lapua brass.

Awesome series, learned a lot! I had got myself a Daniel Defense Delta 5 pro, 16 in .308 model for a short compact build. But I’m thinking next build might be a custom barrel on one of those aero solus actions!
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
I have a dozen in stock. I'm not kidding when I say they are nice actions, nothing but impressed.

Good work on this Harrels tuner/brake and hopefully you can soon get at another one but this time with a factory barrel. Like I've always said these tuner/brake really shine on factory barrels like my Rem.700 223 which has reduced my best 5 shot groups from 5/8" down to 3/8" @ 100yds. For the record my Harrels tuner/brake also works best on #3 but always test first 8 rotations as Shawn did. There are thousands of shooters out there that don't compete and are just looking for a little help to improve group sizes without spending a lot of time at the Range. Tuners are perfect for them. Steps for those shooters; do load development do seating test finish with tuner
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
Awesome info Dave. I'm intrigued that we landed near the same settings. Very interesting. Thanks for everything!!!! That was an interesting experiment.

Great series with a ton of good information. When you said you lowered the powder charge. Do you rework the brass, or pull the bullet, change the charge, and reinstall bullet?
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc

I ended up using the hotter rounds for practice and dropped the charge weight on the subsequent reload. I did a quick test to see how they grouped and went from there. I usually try to avoid pulling the bullets except for those cases where the load is at dangerously hot levels.

I just got done with an initial EC tuner test but I was not sure if I wanted to try a 140 grain load in a 6.5 or a 147 so i did them both at the same time. Both factory loads , same brand, same bullet just different grain. I shot 3 shot groups at each setting swapping from one grain to another as I moved up so 3 shots of 140 at 0 then 3 of 147 at 0 etc. What I found out of those is the settings showed the same results no matter what grain bullet was being shot. The groups opened and closed up equally as each setting was changed.

Sounds like you executed the test perfectly. I found something very similar with my .22lr. That’s an obvious “sweet spot”. Set the tuner in the middle and let her rip!

The question I'm dying to know the answer to...... How many total rounds did you fire during tuner testing?
@triggeredprecisionmachinellc
The first time through I fired 75 rounds for the test, not including foulers. Second test was 66 rounds not including foulers.
