Today, we have a teacher who has a son with a man who
has a new girlfriend. This new girlfriend wants a TPO
against the teacher after she sent her a series of unwanted
text messages during a period of time where the son was
being withheld from the teacher.

I'm going to have to agree if he's having a issue with 1 babies mom it's 1 thing. Something isn't right, and now a new girlfriend is getting involved and upset over a few texts? He definitely talks down upon his kids mothers it's why she's "scared" of this one. Provides he's unstable. Totally a red flag for me too.

Tough one. I'd ordinarily be on the side of the person getting unwanted texts, but going to her employer over a few texts?? Nahhhh...They're setting her up to make her look bad so they can get custody and make her pay child support. And she's feeding into it. Get a lawyer!!

Five total text messages with no threatening content isn't grounds for a TPO. _Especially_ considering Petitioner initiated the contact pretextually (asking if Respondent had called her), then apparently sent her full messages capped off with "don't contact me," instead of _just_ saying "don't contact me," like someone actually being harassed would do.

There was something that the plaintiff said that made me say this should not have been put into affect. She said, the things that she was saying to me about my fiancé made me concerned. Which means she was not in fear for her life, or her safety, she just didn’t want to hear things about her new fiancé, who is such a dick. He lost his child. I think the judge got it wrong here. You can say do not talk to her, but I am not putting an order in because we can all be grown-ups. That’s it, and if you do talk to her, she can come back and re-file. I’ve seen Judge Manning do that a ton

@jtm1283 yes, I find a lot people don't respect boundaries anymore and only care about what they want. Thus, I now keep to myself, only have a couple of friends and remain single. The sense of entitlement people feel nowadays is exhausting.

This is bs..a common occurrence in Pierce County. The majority of the messages took place on one day and it was Ms Cridge who initiated them by contacting Ms Irvin to ask her a question. After going back & forth the messages ended and both parties blocked one another...done deal. I have little doubt that this order was requested as a means to bolster Mr. Irvin's standing in his family court case. There's a reason why a judge granted Ms Irvin full custody of the child along with an order of protection against the father. This potentially could also place Ms. Irvins job at risk. My hope is that she will retain an attorney to request an order to quash. There are plenty of facts that support, doing so... beginning with the huge judicial leap the judge made and the non sequitur fallacy he relied upon when making his ruling😒

Even if sending someone an innocuous text message after they ask you not to is harassment (which I question), doesn't there need to be a risk of continuing harassment to justify an order? Since they've had no contact since then and have blocked each other, there is no risk of there being any continuation, so the order is unnecessary.

I have to agree with the comments. If GF felt she was being contacted too many times, just block. I think the Judge did this TPO because GF works as security in a court setting, well maybe security isn't working directly as a court officer of any kind, but that's just my opinion. I think just like the comments, Judge made a wrong call on this one. And I believe girlfriend is no saint and she will for sure come back and accuse the ex for something to do with her son since he's at the school the ex works at. I just got that feeling.

I hope she appeals this. 🤦 Handing out TPOs that are made for stalking and harssment, over some texts when a person can easily block, is just not right. Meanwhile the GF is actively going to her job and starting trouble. This TPO will absolutely impact her job and the family court case and they know it. That's why they did it.

TPOs' are exactly as described in the name. A person must have been threatened or are in fear for their safety. For example Judge Manning always ask, what threat was made to you and start with the ost recent occurrence. Actions such as breaking windows, physical violence, threats of phyical violence, etc;

Ms Cringe is being absolutely ridiculous. You will NOT be able to move in with and marry a man who has kids from a prior relationship and have absolutely zero contact with that child's mother! A few text message over the course of a couple days is not grounds for a TPO, especially since they aren't threatening. This is ridiculous. The judge made a bad call here. Ervin should get a lawyer. Edit: If this is how easy it is to get a TPO she should counter file against Cridge for going to her work and all that as more of a threat to try and sabotage her job or something.

This is very unfair and this new girlfriend should keep her nose out of the relationship between the child’s parents, because the one that will end up being hurt, is the child! I find it disrespectful that a new partner sticks her nose into a difficult situation and stirs the pot. The only thing that she knows about the ex relationship is what the man has told her. Appeal this Ms. Erwin. That judge was out of line giving a TPO for phone calls. This is absolutely just a ploy designed by your ex husband. I am disgusted for you by this little twats attempt to derail your custody battle. Cridge has no mind of her own and is willing to be a pawn in your ex husband’s plot. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a restraining order be granted so easily with such little ‘evidence’. Given the circumstances surrounding why these texts were sent (her son being withheld from her), I completely understand where mom is coming from. It wasn’t just to be a b*tch to his ex’s new GF. And clearly she had reason to be concerned considering she was awarded full custody after the withholding incident. Very weak and poor decision IMO.

Girlfriends have no positions, no opinions that matter or authority when it comes to your children. Not even step mothers. His business is between his child’s mother only; no one else. The GF of the husband is a Sheriff Deputy who likely knows how to play the game of TPO. From what was described, if someone in LE cannot handle a handfuls of texts on 1 day--I fear for how that person would actually work with the transport of inmates for court--or serving TPOs, for that matter. Serving the teacher at school in front of her students, I would argue is a provocative act. I would suggest that the Judge needed to rule in the other direction. For all intents and purposes both women already took steps to not have contact with one another, so the situation is moot.

I think the judge gave her the TPO because he was influenced by the statement that the ex-wife had made. This was his way of proving that his decision wasn’t going to be influenced by it. There was no threat and the ex and girlfriend ARE going to try to use this to help him try to take custody of the child.

I went through something similar with my ex, his new gf was insecure because my ex was still in love with me, so his new gf made him do all kinds of mean stuff to me, including breaking into my house, to make herself feel better. Needless to say I have been happily married for 23 yrs, and she is alone after my ex left her for his current wife. Ah karma.

Her having FULL CUSTODY is important for this case. It shows that the father has done something worth taking the child out of the home for. Parents often say they “have full custody” when they’re just the custodial parent. Most courts grant SHARED custody with one parent being the primary custodial parent. Its a shitty system and it leads to a lot of neglect and abuse because some shitbag couldn’t pay his support on time or didn’t spend time with their kid and now has to go through the court in order to have any semblance of a relationship with them.

This ruling is _absurd,_ and can have a serious effect on a teacher. What what I heard (and it wasn't rebutted), Miss Cridge initiated the message string by asking why Ms. Ervin had called, Ms. Ervin said she hadn't, Miss Cridge then sent a message in reply, with the last sentence being "don't contact me," Ms. Ervin responded, Miss Cridge responded (again, with the last sentence being "don't contact me"), rinse, repeat. You cannot initiate contact, send a full message in response, then say "don't contact me" at the end, and reasonably consider a reply to that message to be _harassment._ Women who create the problems in their divorce/custody cases do so in their own unique way, but I can't tell you the number of men I've seen whose ramps up in really hostile litigation correlate precisely to the advent of a new girlfriend/fiance/wife.

I hate click bait titles! No freak out at all. So basically ex husband got gf to get this order to prove ex wife is an issue so he can get custody. The order, moving in together,custody etc is all a move by ex hubby to hurt ex wife. GF says she works court security & has to miss 3 days of work yet she’s scared of this woman who sent her 5 text messages? C’mon. She could have blocked her. All premeditated move to hurt her. This order will hurt ex wife in her job where GF has harassed her by going to her class, going to her boss & sending emails. GF did more to hurt ex than the other way round. Now ex hubby & gf have ammo for a modified child custody. Ex hubby couldn’t get custody but now since “crazy ex wife” has harassed GF so much she has to get a protection order to be safe this will start a custom battle based on lies.

No need to issue an order of protection here. Simple fix, "Girlfriend, stay out of things that are none of your business, the child is not your child, you have no say in that matter, any issues are between the mother and father, don't be involved in visitation or custody issues, it is not your child. If this is not an acceptable way for you to live then date men who don't have children and ex wives." Problem solved. Next case!

She needs to get an attorney and appeal this. I don’t believe the judge made the right decision here AT ALL. She made absolutely no threats and single conversation continuing with a handful of messages is NOT harassment. For heaven’s sake, we tried to get a TPO for our daughter when a guy egged our house and was harassing her but because it was all verbal they tossed it at the hearing because all we had was a he said/she said and our camera didn’t get a close enough photo of his face for the judge to see it clearly enough. Yet this gets approved?!? She needs an attorney.

I'm flabbergasted right now. Did she pay off the judge? 1. She is remarried. Did she ask the ex to meet the new husband to get to know their (not her son) before she got into that relationship? She expects to get to know his new gf 😂. 2. Courts do not need evidence against a man. All she had to do was make claims against him. It is not criminal court where evidence is required. 3. She wants to control the ex.

Testimony is definitely evidence but simple testimony is not always enough in by itself. My ex tried to tell the judge that I was planning on kidnapping my daughter to Europe to try to get emergency custody and she had zero evidence except that she heard me say it apparently. I simply denied the allegations and nothing came of it. Now if there was any evidence with that it would be a problem

I disagree. People lie all the time. Family court is a different beast. A woman can say anything and the court will take it as fact. That is not evidence. A court where a child is generally used as a weapon against the father. Nope. Not evidence.

What do I think? If it had been me, and the contact was limited to a few texts, I'd ask them not to contact me anymore and then I would block them. If it escalated to any other form of contact, then I might take action. I've done this myself several times without dragging someone into court. I saw it as disrespect rather than harassment. It was not ongoing and persistent. Don't cause the court to do for you what you can reasonably do for yourself. They blocked each other. People do it all the time. That should have been the end of it. And if it wasn't then seek legal remedy. I personally think there were more factors and motives behind this filing.....asked and answered!

I think the judge overreacted on this one, and didn't address Cridge serving her in front of students. Then he includes the son in the order. She hasn't had any contact with the son. And there wouldn't have been a problem if the girlfriend wasn't with a married man. Then she tries to make a wife and mother look bad at work, because she is sleeping with a man married to a teacher at her sons school. Good luck keeping him, he sounds like a gem.
