DO worry about the old tubeless sealant! The inside of the tyre needs to be clean and dry. This allows the tube to move smoothly (albeit minutely) against the inside of the ture. This gives a more supple tyre feel, and gives the tube and any patches a fighting chance of working as intended.

Thanks for the advice. I'm NOT going to worry about it, not that you don't make a useful point. It's just that I'm not too concerned about performance (outright speed). The old sealant though was/is a nuisance when it comes to replacing/mending the tubes.
@theflow5269
@theflow5269 3 месяца назад
@FiveMinuteVelo not about performance, as much as the resulting friction between the tyre and tube, resulting in a higher likelihood of pinches, punctures in general, and the potential for the edge of patches being rubbed.

Tpu tubes, constantly having to pump up. When I can't be bothered most of the time, any pot hole and they are done, when I go round corners I feel the tyre slipping off, difficult to patch almost impossible on a ride. Butyl perfect....

@@NewsYourViews > I have found that TPU tubes do deflate more quickly than butyl and some pumping is required. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tmioN1JFjRY.htmlsi=gJMSJcP1qEnTxYnp However, I do run my tires at relatively low pressure (45-50psi), if you're using much higher pressures, I can see it would be more of a problem. I have very few pinch punctures, even though I use those low pressures, so this is not been an issue for me - probably because I look out for and avoid road irregularities. As for the tire feeling as though it's going to slip off, I can think of a physical reason for that, perhaps it's psychological! That does not mean it's not important to you. I agree with you, mending punctures is more difficult. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2GrVswc5bXo.htmlsi=T7cmdhzDfCCVTr7S I also agree that butyl tires are a great option. What I'm tending to do now is use butyl tubes in the tyres and reserve the TPU tubes for my spares kit where the small size is useful.

I found that if you put some good silicone adhesive before you put the glueless patch, it will literally stick there for life! and even I tried it with very small puncture I put some silicone adhesive with duct tape will work just perfect! Give it a go:)

Dude clear the sealant so there is no friction against the tpu tube. If there is especially with a patch you cant expect anything else

I find that all glueless patch will work for the first few hours to days. After that, it will begin to leak air. I'm still exploring ways to glue the patch onto TPU tubes without air leak, permanently.

I find that 'glueless' patches are a good temporary repair, but I don't know how long they're going to last for. So in that respect I have the same experience as you. I find this is true for both TPU tubes and standard butyl tubes. I've moved on to repairing my TPU tubes by cutting out patches from an old tube and gluing them in place using a Bostic soft plastic glue. It seems to work quite well. The downside is that the solvent in the glue will soften the TPU tube, which means it may rupture if you put too much pressure in it while repairing it (that is when it's not in the tire).

Those clueless patch only last 1 to 2 hours at best.

A road side patch is a temporary solution, you have to do a proper patch later

I use a soldering iron on a low temp to weld on tpu patches and it works amazingly well

Not a fan of pathes if only to get me home
@FiveMinuteVelo
@FiveMinuteVelo 2 месяца назад
'pathes' = 'patches'? I find that the pre-glued or so called 'glueless' patches are unreliable. However, good old-fashioned stick on yourself patches work well as long as you don't take shortcuts when sticking them on.

Actually it's not that bad. The official 'glueless' patches that came with the tubes are not good so I was experimenting with alternatives. Looks like the PVC material I was using is too thick. I may have to sacrifice a tube to make patches out of the TPU material. Fuller review is in development.

if you use a proper patch kit (like ones made my pirelli and tubolito with the glue and patch separate) you can mend TPU inner tubes very well. I have patched my TPU tube 3 times and it still holds air like brand new.
