I planted one jasmine plant 30 yrs ago on my chain link fence and it still is beautiful and smells so good when in bloom. It requires so little in care, and has given me so much joy. I think the birds nest behind it , also. After 30 yrs. it has outgrown the area and has blackberry brambles growing through it. Thanks for letting me know it will take hard pruning. I want to cut it back and clean it out but I don't want to lose it - one of the best things I've ever planted.
Excellent thank you. I'm a star jasmine fanatic. I have the white and yellow flowered varieties. Have to try the pink. You're brilliant on camera. Witty. And funny. Thanks again. X
I’m just north of austin. We recently had a very windy cold snap. I covered them all. I’d love to see a video, on how to care for them all. I have so many. They’re burned from the wind and freezing temps
Thanks for your wonderful videos I also saw your rosemary video before you moved. Your awesome I like your casual delivery it's like talking with a good friend that's very knowledgeable in gardening.
keep it pruned and its beautiful on an arch. star jasmine is confederate jasmine, they are the same thing. fast climber, and smells great. great plant for bringing the pollinators.
Hello, thank you so much for your video. I am in England Essex, I planted this beautiful plant nearly two years ago direct into the soil next to an arch to hopefully clim over it. It has grown but has climbed up to less than 4 feet. I have put some food plant and compost around it a few months ago. It is situated in a sunny spot in my small garden but as you can imagine here could be quite cold most of the year, but now is summer and my plant looks absolutely stunning but I wonder why is so small or if I meant to be doing something I am not doing to help it grow. Thank you
Watching this video 2 years later and wondering how your jasmine is doing now? 😊 I just planted a new jasmine hoping it will climb over my patio area. Thank you
We had a winter storm in Texas (Zone 9a) this past February, and my star jasmine mostly died (foliage at least). It is done in a kind of squared arch around our front doorway. Glad I found this video, in case I need to cut it all down to remove the frost damage and regrow it. Did you make a curved wire hoop trellis for the arched one you walked under? I did not see that. Thank you.
They smell so good. Just got one for Honeybees. Should give the Honey a nice taste and smell. my fencerow also has, Carolina Jessamine, Native Honeysuckle, Clematis and Mandevilla. Good to see people planting things that look after pollenators:)
I love the honeybees. They don't bother us at all & we need them to keep our environments functioning as they should. More pollinator plants please! Nell
I have always wondered what is te best way to prune it, we have one that came with our house, it is the same spot as yours Nell, I would like it if you could do a video on pruning star jasmine, I have no idea with where to start
I started a star Jasmine and dwarf rose terrarium, and while the bud and roots from the rose is growing just fine, I can't tell with the jasmine cuttings. It's quite moist almost like a rainforest(fed with filtered water every three days) but the temp in my room is around 72-75 degrees and the glass gets colder than that. The soil drains well and the moss inside is very happy(started growing overnight with bright green fern-like extensions and spreading seeds), but the jasmine hasn't quite sprouted or may not even be rooting. I'm worried for it, but there's plenty to cut from in my backyard where I can start again
Hi, your videos are amazing! I’ve a star jasmine that’s gone really leggy, it’s growing along a fence and obstructing a narrow passageway. I would like to hard prune it back to the fence but this will mean losing all the thin layer of top foliage! If I hard prune will new foliage appear? What’s your advice? Thank you!
Hello, I live in houston, tx and I just bought a star jazmine and it was in full bloom, and now it's not really doing anything. it's growing but not blooming. .maybe one or two flowers but then they die like 3 days later...I have it under my pecan tree and it's pretty shady their. .should I move it? oh, and also it is in a pot so what type of soil should I have it in? please help. .thanks
3:44 How do you make it grow as a groundcover? It just grows like that or you have to attach it to the ground in some way? I'll appreciate if someone can help me.
My jasmine looks dead starting over the winter. I’m in Mississippi and planted them April 2019. No leaves on the plants. I figured they would bounce back when it warmed up. However, I just scratched the bottom stems to check for green. No green, but they do have a little moisture still. They look like they are barely hanging on. Any advice on what to do? Is this normal? Is there any hope for them?
Thank you so much for this great info!! I'm a new subscriber n now watching some of ur videos n love it!!! ❤ Question: i recently planted a small SJ n the sun was too much n looks like it just died... sad... But since it's only been a couple days n I've added a shade do u think it may come back? It lost all it's leaves... It's a baby... But it's so hot here in Imperial Valley...
Hello thanks for the video.. 3 questions. How many minutes a day and how many days a week do you water or drip water during the summer I live I Las Vegas so we're about the same weather. Other question is; can I prune them while they having new growth or should I wait? Also how many direct sunlight is good and not good and when and what type of fertilizer to use.. sorry for all those question??.. thanks you
Hi Nell! I'm here in Tucson and have an excessively overgrown jasmine- it's literally a blob! Also, unbeknownst to me the water was cut off from the plant so it is not flowering. I was wondering if I should/could just cut it back to nothing so that I can retrain into growing along the wall with a trellis. And if so when should I do it.
Could you explain why my Jasmine leaves are turning yellow? I got it last week in Fontana California and moved here to Las Vegas Nevada. I have not transplanted it yet I was giving it time to acclimate.
I am not sure if you would answer my question seeing as this was posted in 2017, but I bought a star jasmine, and it is tied to a tiny trellis. I planted mine in the ground with the tiny trellis. I want to untie it from the tiny trellis and train it to climb my columns. So, how would I do that? Do I need to tie each piece to the column or will it grow towards it? Please help? I love my plants and want to make sure I am taking the best care of it that I can. Thank you!!
Hello! Thank you for the video. I just recently bought a house that has this beautiful jasmine growing along my front porch. But, it's growing up in to my roof line. Do you have any advice on relocating it?
I have been wanting to buy a star jasmine from my local nursery but I am always unsure as to how to care for one effectively here in Phoenix AZ. I am so glad you did a video on it! I am wondering if having it in the front porch of my house facing west would be too much direct sun in the late afternoon for it though. I hope it all goes well because I love the little blooms and it was my late father's favorite smell as well!
Hi Araceli - Greetings from Tucson! The late afternoon sun can be brutal here in Southern Arizona so I'd avoid planting it there. It looks better here without too much exposure to hot sun. Nell
Hi Nell 😊, how far up does your trellis go? I have one that I want to span the width of my wood fence. Would I need a trellis to cover the whole fence area?
My Jasmine is not doing well. It has full sun. We are in Las Vegas, NV. New leaves are coming out, but they don't last. The leaves turn brown rapidly and eventually fall off easily. Any suggestions on what I can do to help it?
My jasmine vine faces west and it is in front of my front door, it grows only on its foliage but no flower maybe one or two this year, do you know what might be the reason?
I wanna train it onto a wall thats 10ft high and 18ft wide. How many star jasmines would i need for the job? Plus, i can't get a trellis because the area is too wide so I'll be working with wires. How should i run them? Vertically, horizontally or both? And how far apart should they be?
Hi there, love your video. I just finished building my pergola, and was looking for a vine like plant to start and grow. I live in S. Florida, so looking for something that provides shade, and easy to care for and you convinced me to go for the jasmine, until the end of your video, and I saw your pergola covered with a beautiful vine....what kind of vine is that???? Do you have a video of it so that I can research? Absolutely love it.
Hi, it an excellent video. I'am from India. please answer my query. Is it all right to keep growing star jasmine in a 9'Inch pot and expect it to develop 20-25 ft long. I mean is it possible that it will reach at such height. If not what should be the right pot size. Kindly reply
I'm outside of Phoenix and I was thinking of creating a trellis along the block fence we have in our backyard. The 2 sides walls would only get sun for part of the day. The rear wall is north facing, so it will get full sun. Will the star jasmine be ok or should I look for another vine type plant to cover my walls with?
I have a jasmine for 2 years now but has not flowered for me. Do u have any idea why? It looks very healthy and growing well! I don't know why it's in a nice corner and gets sun.
Hi! First of all, beautiful video! Secondly, I want to plant this plant in containers, alongside the railings on my terrace. It gets full sun from 10 am to 2 pm, plus light sun until evening. Would this grow to cover the railing and drop down, so as to create a nice foliage or cover for the walls?
Hi Divyanshi, 4 hours of direct sunlight is not ideal for the plant but it should be sufficient. A way to help your plant succeed is to plant it in large pots/containers so that their roots have lots of space to grow. The larger the pot the larger the plant and this will encourage the plant to flower year on year. Hope this advice helps. I've had a potted jasmine for nearly 6 years and it flowers prolifically and it's in a huge pot.
