Thanks for commenting. It's fI myself have used this method but never thought to save it to a template until this vid...then used that template, maybe 4 times since this went live!

I trace floor plans all the time. This will help a lot.

Yes. That's the idea! no need to reinvent the wheel every time.

This makes so much more sense than the similar video in Sketchup campus. It's good to know how to turn off the visibility of the floorplan that you're tracing over. I may switch to watching your videos here rather than on their campus! Thanks

Ah well I'm the author of the Campus Video so if there's any more info you can provide on what was confusing I will definitely take it into account. Thanks for the feedback!

Do you have any hints on tracing "random" lines in images e.g. around the edge of a human outline? Because inferencing cannot be temporarily turned off, the line tool will annoying start snapping to random places, making it impossible to create accurate lines without having to zoom further and further in.
@alpinist-4183
@alpinist-4183 2 года назад
If you want temporarily disable/enable inferencing of the line tool just click Alt.
@gusbert
@gusbert 2 года назад
@@alpinist-4183 GAH! When did that appear! Now that I look at the status bar I see you can go from inferencing All ON, All OFF, Parallel/Perpendicular. I've been asking for this for ages, and then it stealthily appears 😑

I tend to use the Freehand tool for irregular lines. Less accurate but fast...always a trade off between the two.

Thanks, good tips here. Will this also work with 3d images and perspective not just a 2d floor plan or do I need to make some adjustments to the template.
@ericsargeant3254

Yes. All the steps are the same except the camera angle - which can be set to whatever you want.

Awesome video I trace from surveys, photos, plans, & sketches so the video and templet will be a great help. Question, I use a PC what images are best the best to trace from, PDF, JEPG, PNG... Thanks for this video.
@ericsargeant3254
@ericsargeant3254 2 года назад
Windows doesn't have PDF support but Jpeg or PNG should work great on either PC or Mac

@@ericsargeant3254 why sketchup development team not adding pdf import in windows..

@@famcivilengineer34 Can't say why exactly. I know it can be frustrating to have to export the PDF to PNG or JPEG and then import from there.

This is so manual, time consuming, and not practical if you have a big detailed plan. You can simply convert image to vector and you will have editable lines
