Following their debut award-winning documentary about a Western Borneo tribe's battle against palm oil tycoons to protect their land, traditions, and rights to the forest - TracingThought Productions is at it again. TracingThought's team of Ashlei Payne (filmmaker, journalist) and Talor Stone (PhD researcher, executive producer, and photographer) are 1 year into a 2-year odyssey following and documenting the Inughuit people of Siorapaluk, the last of the northernmost indigenous, subsistence hunters of Northern Greenland. Living in rhythm with the tribe, traversing their landscape, eating their wild foods, and facing some of the thickest mosquitoes (in summer) & coldest temps imaginable (in winter), Ashlei and Talor will offer a rare look into this resilient culture.
Ashlei writes, " The Inughuit people of Siorapaluk, situated in the northernmost region of Greenland, have been practicing their traditional hunting techniques for over 4,500 years. They possess an unparalleled understanding of animal behavior and weather patterns, which they attribute to the teachings of their ancestors. Despite Western scientific studies, the hunters maintain that their traditional knowledge is superior. However, they face several challenges, such as government regulations, scientific research, and climate change. This project delves into the hunters' story, relying on scientific evidence and personal perspectives to shed light on their struggles."
