I use a fancy shmancy 24Volt BatteryMinder maintainer and it stays in cold storage most of the time. However last year I used it so often in deep snow that I did have a heated place for it so the impacted snow would melt away. After the snow was melted away I sprayed chain and bearings with WD-40. It got regular robot spa treatments last year. It has not even touched snow this year yet.

i would also like to see how you have the motor attached to both cog wheels. ive been trying to do something just like this but i have had an issue figuring out the drive system.

As soon as we get some real snow here in Minnesota I'll do that. Just light snow so far and so warm this year!

...where did you bought the tracks from?
@bzeug
@bzeug 12 лет назад
@Foryster Thank you. Yes, it has been unbelievably mild here in Minnesota too! I've have not yet had any more than 2 inches of snow on my roof at a time and even that melted off. Today was nearly 40F! Feels like spring already.

What an inspiration !!! Could you please post on how wheelchair motors attack to the snowblower tracks please. Could you also please post on how you connected the Arduino microcontroller to the Sabertooth motor drive? Thank you very much

@DJaftershocks I don't know how many amps the dewalt motors will draw at full load. take a any old car battery and one of your dewalt motors and wire in a 15 amp auto fuse and if you blow the fuse by squeezing the motor output shaft, then the sabertooth 2x12 won't work.

Do a search for Honda Hybrid Snowblower. I know there are some models sold in the USA. The track drive is already electric powered. It is geared down quite a bit so it would be slow. Or maybe you can order the tracks only from a Honda dealer or online once you know the part number.

quick question great videos I'm am trying to do a similar thing wondering how it all works in a general overview. Could you make a video on how all the wiring goes together. From the batteries to the transmitter to how it powers everything individually. Thanks

Hello, I'm building mine but this one is for the beach since the distance from the parking to the beach is gigantic, I already have the motors and saber tooth I'm just having problems on how to find the tracks. Some advice would be nice, thanks!

hi i love your robot. can you please tell me more about the motors? did you buy a complete wheelchair or just some motors? and what would it cost me? i am wanting to build me my own electric snow tractor. just a small single track to put behing a sledge or something for fun. so please tell me where to look and what kind of kosts i will run into

Where did you get the sprocket that connects to the wheelchair motors? I got some from a surplus place but the key isn't wide enough. I have near the same motors and track.
@bzeug
@bzeug 9 лет назад
+Jon Weiss Its just the sprocket that came with the track unit. The wheel chair motors had a 3/4" keyed shaft and that was perfect.

Sorry, I don't. One of my tracks has a crack, but not all the way through, it is slightly longer than the other. I think it would quite difficult to repair these in a decent reliable way.
@bzeug
@bzeug 12 лет назад
The batteries I am using are 2 of the UB12220. Just google UB12220. They are each 22 amp hour batteries, connected into a 24 volt 22 amp hour configuration.
@bzeug
@bzeug 11 лет назад
Sorry, I don't have those specs. What I know is that these wheelchair motors are between 350 and 400 watts. The gearbox design gives the output shaft very high torque. rpms are low for the motor and very low for the output shaft. Nothing like the rpms of a brushless motor, or even close to the rpms of a cheap rc car motor. If you want to try to hunt down specs on the internet the motors with gearboxes are the 2 pole variety of Invacare Action Arrow or Sport wheel chairs, which are obsolete

Do you have advice on how to repair the tracks? i recently purchased some from ebay and they were cracked. It was hard to tell from the picture. I dont have much experience with the process of repairing tracks. thank you in advance
@Dr.Stein99

Erick Donis You would need to stitch them. punch holes and thread strong twine. Ask an upholstery expert for help if your not confident with stitching.

Hello I really care about this kind of robot but nn can i understand what type of servo you've mounted up to command the engines and a last question after i can find cheap crawlers? Thank you for your response
@bzeug
@bzeug 7 лет назад
The motor controller is called a Sabbertooth 2x25. The motors are from an old power wheelchair. The tracks are from a Craftsman snowblower.

I like your little tank, thats awesome! I was wondering if you can send me a scamatic on how you hooked up a linear actuator. I curently bought a 2x60 sabertooth. My motors are hooked up but cannot find the right forum who has hooked a linear actuater with 2- 24v power chair motors. Some one says to hook up both motors to one side but that sounds wrong. And use other side for linear actuato. Does that sound right?

Servo is a simple 3 wire setup. Google search for Arduino Servo control and that will get you in the right direction.

hey your toys are awesome, I have built a couple my self they have turned ok, I was wondering if you can tell me or if you have encountered that when I plug it in to charge and I turn it back on some times it just goes where ever it wants, it all most took me out one time it just wanted to go forward I had to un plug power and re sink sabertooth to it again and it does it every now and then and also I was charging and I had the wheels elevated and the wheels were turning, like if the juice is trickling through, do you think that's motors or sabertooth?
@bzeug
@bzeug 9 лет назад
This sounds familiar. I had an older Hitech 6 channel receiver connected to the Sabertooth so that it was powered by the Sabertooth. Every now and then it would go crazy as you describe. I suspected that receiver was drawing too much current and resetting the Sabertooth which puts it into fail-safe, then reboots which re-calibrates the current stick position as center and of course the sticks are not at center because it all happens while driving the thing. So putting the receiver on its own battery pack solved this problem for me. I should also mention the Spektrum DX6i is a very dangerous unreliable transmitter. The potentiameters in the sticks go bad. I am currently looking for a good high end robot transmitter to replace my Specktrum DX6i

I haven't got one to sell. I found my chassis on Craigslist. The wheelchairs were also a Craigslist find. It takes a lot of time to source the bits and pieces and just isn't worth trying to make any money at it. If i were to build another I would start with these tracks ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DNnLtjoJ_0Y.html

Great work! You have inspired me to build the same, but autonomous. I have a prototype model to test the robot vision before I place it in a 'tank' version like yours. You can view the working 'GardenBot' on my RU-vid channel under "Scrufman2001". Let me know if I can assist you in programming. Thanks for the inspiration! Keep up the outstanding work!
