This is the track IR system very useful for flight simulator pilots, and is an alternative to vr setups. Track IR helps you look around from the cockpit as natural as possible and is just a fraction of the cost of high-end VR systems.
get your here: amzn.to/2RYcFVR
In this video I show many simulators where you can use the trackir system, war thunder, DCS world, IL-2 Sturmovik and even my rc simulator Aerofly RC 7.

Getting a VR headset with 2x 4K wouldn't solve that problem because not even the latest flagship GPU can handle it, so the technology is just not ready. As an example, MSFS 2020 automatically downgrades the graphics to Low once it detects VR usage so you have an idea.

Can you use this in conjunction with your joystick hat mapped to view control? I’m thinking particularly for ‘checking your 6’ - use the hat, but when facing forward naturally using head movement to look more closely. Those War Thunder clips must be years old, its better than that these days. Adjust your settings too so things aren't so wobbly and sensitive Im on PS4 and wish i could get trackir or something similar and reliable. Its hard work on gamepad but ive gotten used to it. For me to look around i have to click in the right stick, hold it down while tracking enemies and flying with left stick. I lose out on rudder but i hardly ever need it in a dogfight anyway. TrackIR would be a game changer

I can tell that your monitor subtends a small apparent angle. That is, the screen is one or both of small size and/or is located far away. How do I know? Because with even a fairly small panning angle of your head, I can see your eyes swivel so as to keep the screen (more properly, the subject of interest) in sight. I would guess your screen width subtends something like a 30 degree apparent angle. I use a reasonably large screen, and the monitor is set up pretty close to me as well. The result is an apparent angular width approaching 90 degrees. The benefits are two-fold: 1) The image scale is not much different from reality at my usual wide FoV, which has a significant impact on immersion. It makes for another reason to look favorably toward head tracking vs a VR headset. (If VR panning is scaled 1:1, that means MUCH more head swivelling, which can be more tiring.) 2) When I pan around with my TrackIR, my eyes do not have to swivel to any meaningful degree. Even when I am looking toward the virtual rear, my eyes-straight gaze has my eyes looking about 2/3 of the way from screen center to edge. By not having to keep swiveling my eyes in their sockets just to keep the subject under foveal vision, eye fatigue is not an issue.

i usually get sick with vr but i’ve never had the same problem with trackir. i’m pretty sure it’s because the reason people get sick with vr is because the motion being perceived by the eyes is not agreeing with the motion sensed by the inner ear. so, if you jumped from a height in vr, your eyes think that you’re falling down, since vr is much more immersive than doing the same thing with a monitor. however, the inner ear senses no motion which confuses the brain and makes people throw up when they put on face toasters. i think the reason trackir is more agreeable is since your subconscious brain still “sees” the static room around your monitor, even though in the heat of the moment you don’t consciously look at it.

@@wankywatanabe7490 I'd say it also has to do with the eyes not having to to move independently longitudinally. If you look at the point of your nose your eyes have to move closer to get into conversion point, while looking at a distant object your eyes are relatively forward. At least in the cases of the VRs I used, your eyes don't need to move independently, but I could be wrong.
