Hurricane Katrina was a catastrophic, extensively destructive, and deadly Atlantic hurricane that became the fourth-most intense tropical cyclone to make landfall onto the contiguous United States. Katrina would be the 11th named storm, 5th hurricane, and 3rd major hurricane of the 2005 Atlantic hurricane season. Katrina devastated portions across the Gulf Coast especially Mississippi and particularly Louisiana, with New Orleans alone Katrina dealing $70 billion in damages towards the city. Katrina is tied with Hurricane Harvey (2017) as the costliest tropical cyclone in recorded history not only in the Atlantic but worldwide.
