Bobby Kersee is unquestionably one of the greatest coaches in Track & Field History
From Florence Griffith-Joyner and Jackie Joyner-Kersee, to Gail Devers and Joanna Hayes, to Allyson Felix and Sydney McLaughlin. Over his 40+ years of coaching, his athletes have won a plethora of Olympic and World Championship medals as well as broken a plethora of American and World Records
It was recently announced that 800 Olympic and World Champion Athing Mu, as well as 2022 World Championship qualifier Brandon Miller, would be moving to California to train with Bobby Kersee and his group.
Shortly after that, Kendra Harrison and Jenna Prandini who were training under coach Edrick Floréal in Austin Texas, both Olympic Silver medalists, announced that they would also be moving to Bobby Kersee’s group as well.
With these recent moves, everyone in the Track & Field world is questioning: was this a good move for them?

Not likely. Athing Mu isn't fast enough in her first 200m. Mclaughlin can run close to 48 in her 400m right now, whereas Mu's best was over 49.5. It may be possible for them to meet in 800m though. Wait until Mclaughlin breaks 400m WR and she may move up to 800m as she gets older!

I hope Kersey has an assistant he’s training, because if he retires, we don’t want to loose his method of turning out winners. Other coaches are good also, but Kersey has “the gift” to train winners. And, if you have the goods, he’s gonna bring it out! 😀

It was such a shame that UCLA was essentially forced to end its T&F program…it was such a dominant presence. I remember when the announcers at the Olympics would call UCLA the Olympics’ Track Factory as so many participants went to school there. Looks like Coach Kersee is going to make one final push in his already legendary career and it is basically a superhero training center there at Drake Stadium with these current athletes…I use to run at that same track as an undergrad at midnight after my studies to reset my mind, so cool to think these legends will be running those same lanes…

Yeah this is primarily about Athing levelling up in the 800m i.e. trying to do the equivalent of what Syd has done to the 400mH! There's bound to be some overlap in their workouts, will be interesting to see Kersee try and coach a middle distance runner to potentially a WR and then maybe focus on the 400m afterwards! I think the 'realistic' goal should be trying to be the first clean sub 1.54 runner after Pamela Jelimo came close with her incredible 1.54.01 in 2008. As much as I want to see that 1.53.28 WR gone, I'd still be very happy with a 1.53.99 time! Keni made the move to finally win her first WC & Olympic 100mH Gold after a Silver in each and maybe hopefully in the process regain her WR. She's now 30yrs old and basically has the next 3 championship years to achieve all that! Same with 30yr old Jenna (10.92/21.89) who's long overdue making an individual WC & Olympic 200m Final especially let alone get a medal!

Harrison and Prandini I believe have both underachieved since bursting on the scene> Harrison in particular really struggles with mentally-emotionally showing up in the big meets. I don't think Floreal prepared her to run her best from a mental emotional perspective, which in the 100h is so important. I think watching the girl from UTEP run her best races EVER at world's shook Harrison. The clock is ticking too. Great moves by all going to the Maestro's camp.

I do wonder if coach Kersee appreciates the importance of endurance in the 800, especially for an athlete coming up from the 400 and is more of a sprinter to begin with. There are really two ways to improve in the 800, which really applies to any running event, but especially the 800; either improve your all out sprinting speed or improve your endurance. For Mu, her sprinting speed is already stellar and every tenth of a second improvement in the 400 would be very difficult. But if she were to train like a 10,000 runner most of the time, without neglecting her sprinting form training, I think it would be much easier for her to achieve improvements in the 800 versus eking out improvements in her 400 time. If she were to build up to 80 miles per week, I think Mu could handily break the 800 world record.

I think mu can easily break 49 and mid 48 but I don't think more than this her best 400 is around 49.4 until now and sydney dropped a 47.9 relay split and she was racing alone so no one was pushing her and she slowed down at the finish so I think if there's anyone who can do it it's her . I mean she's 22 and she can only get better in the next 5 years I can see her doing it and breaking 50 In 400mH which is completely mind-blowing
@TheFinalLeg

She was "accused" but NEVER failed a test. People can make accusations all day but that doesn't mean they are true.

She never failed one test, and in more recent history, Allyson Felix was never accused of doping and was willingly a part of a program that tested her more than usual.

Watch the video on youtube from Victor Conte. He sure leaves himself open for a slander suit.

Were the accusations true? He has been training Sidney. Will they accuse her too? Just because he can bring out the best in athletes doesn't mean he cheats to do it. His wife passed all her drug tests.
