I can vouch for the higher standards in Florida. I had to prove my porch in ORLANDO could sustain 130 mph winds. Florida put in those standards after Andrew's rampage in 92. I think the triplets in 2004 had the standards further increased.

I'm just east of Tampa. Been through many hurricanes in Miami area. These things are at the very least an incredible rush of power for the weaker ones and terrifying for the stronger ones and life changingly traumatizing for the cat 4s and 5s. With that said I'm not scared because I been through these and know how to survive but I am definitely keeping an eye and slowly preparing my home and supplies. To survive you must respect these monsters. These are very unpredictable and can indeed even turn last minute and hit a city even outside the cone. Another thing to know is they can be unpredictible in forcasting stregth i promose you that from experience. They can be weaker or even much stronger than forcasted. Another fact is you can be 200+ miles away from the center and still get hurricane force depending on its size in area. We will know more tomorrow about what's going to happens but you don't really know 100% how hard or light you actually get hit until it actually hits you or dodges you. Hurricanes are unpredictable period and it's important to never understmate them and know that you will not know 100% if they will hit ot miss you until they hit you or pass you. Definitely 100% always prepare for the worst if you value your life sorry for not sugar coating that people but hurricanes do cost lives especially to the ones who don't take them seriously.
@Mity_Mo
@Mity_Mo Год назад
Can't be 200+ miles from the center and experience hurricane winds, that would give a diameter of 400+ miles. Remember, your warnings to others are only as credible as your facts presented. If dubious then your whole statement is as such.
@gryphenicedancer8796
@gryphenicedancer8796 Год назад
No kidding about the unpredictable nature of these. My mom and dad lived in Bradenton in 2004 and all the forecast said Charlie was going to hit Tampa. So Bradenton being 55 miles from Tampa they hopped in the van and headed to Orlando. The bloody thing chased them to Orlando. The van got all scratched up when a tree almost fell on it. When they got home there wasn't a thing broken, the storm completely passed by Bradenton because it turned at Port Charlotte-Punta Gorda a hundred miles from Tampa! When my ex and I evacuated for Frances, the reports had it crossing over Florida and heading into WEST Georgia. We tent camped because we had 3 cats. We were on the east coast and - the tent was destroyed. I slept in the car with the cats and he slept in his pickup. Don't count on where a hurricane is going. It can turn and mess up an area that should have been no where near the danger zone. Just be prepared by the first of June and don't let your guard down until it gets cold.
@gryphenicedancer8796
@gryphenicedancer8796 Год назад
@@Mity_Mo Yes, they CAN be 400 miles across. I've seen satellite images of hurricanes that completely covered the Florida peninsula top to bottom and extending into the Gulf and the Atlantic. Fortunately, for the most part, the bigger across they are - the weaker they tend to be.
@Mity_Mo
@Mity_Mo Год назад
@@gryphenicedancer8796 I don't believe there has actually been a hurricane force winds that spanned 400+ miles in recorded history. Certainly not a Cat 1 or 2 that is now crossing Cuber's mountains headed for Ft Meyers. I would stop trying to scare people like Republicans do.
@gryphenicedancer8796
@gryphenicedancer8796 Год назад
@@Mity_Mo it's the small hurricanes you have to worry about. Those giants are barely hurricane strength. Think about figure skaters. When they do spins with their arms out and feet apart they spin slowly. When they bring in their arms and use the tip of one skate to spin on they spin faster than my washer. If a storm hits a warm patch of sea, it gets stronger. If it hit a cool patch or a cold front crosses it, pffft. It's gone. I'm really amused about all the youngsters that cleaned out the stores today. Walmart has virtually no canned food left in the store I went to today. I am going to have to settle for Dollar Tree beef stew for my lunch breaks this week. There was a line in the back of the store. I had to ask to go past. I asked what was the line for and someone said for water. I overheard a woman on her phone that they were limiting water to one case per person. Amateurs, I have never less than 5 cases of water on hand. I just keep it rotated, put the oldest in the fridge and mark the date on the new. I just ran out of the beef stew and cat food. I usually shop on Saturday.

@Mity_Mo
@Mity_Mo Год назад
Ft Meyers is in the path of the center. I don't think it will be a cat 3 storm by the time it hits, or glances by you. I think it will be a 2 at the most. Remember that storms this small will not have hurricane winds that extend from the center very far. That means the actual wind speed will depend on where you live within a 25 mile radius of the center. Regardless, 96-110 mph winds of a cat 2 are not very strong really. You should be in a house that can withstand 130-150 mph winds already. Just monitor the National Hurricane Center for location and warnings pretty close. I think Cuber will detente this storm quite a bit.

Why do you ask this question on a YT video ? Should you be watching your local news, or get specific instructions from the National Hurricane Center ? In general if it's a category 1 or 2, all you need to do is mask tape the pane glass. 3 or above, the preferred method is to use 1/2 " plywood panels and screw them into the window frame. It's unlikely to make it to a Category 3 between Cuba and Naples.

Hurricanes try to avoid land if possible, least resistance and all. If its forced to landfall at Ft Meyers and travel north east, by the time it hits Smyrna Beach, it will drop 2 categories. If it's a category 2 at land fall, it will be a high end tropical storm by then. Watch the National Hurricane Center forecasts and tracking closely. It can vary, but centers usually keep their diameter if they can. The reason is that to form a wall takes an extreme amount of energy. Once established a weakening storm would take too much out of it to reform. On a cat 2 storm, the eye is usually about 5-15 miles in diameter. and the hurricane winds extend about another 20 miles from the eye wall radial from the center. The primary danger in a Cat 2 storm is the damage from tornado's.

Really ? Category 2 Hurricane is not a 'sacking' event. There is only one chance it can develop into a stronger hurricane, that's between Cuber and Ft. Meyers. At 14 mph headway that's not enough time.

The only world that's ending is the dumb dumbs that believe in global warming. You think banks and lenders would give you a 30 year loan to build a sky scraper if global warming was going to end the earth in the next 10-20 years? You gotta be some kinda special sort of stupid to believe they would do that.
