Trackmasters were my favorite producers in the mid-90s. Their run was unmatched. A lot of people scoffed at them at the time because they felt their sound was too slick and commercial, but they made some undeniable hits as well as street anthems. I’d even argue that after their stint working with Puff, he totally bit their steez. 😅 But I’ll always love their work on LL Cool J’s “Mr. Smith” album and Foxy’s “Ill Na Na.”
Tone was/is a pretty decent rapper too (as Red Hot Lover Tone), loved his verse on Serch's 'Back To The Grill'. Had a copy of his debut album back in the day too.
OMG I never knew the I Shot Ya sample was from Lyn Collins. I gotta download that one! The samples to Ill Street Blues are just incredible. I think that may be Poke and Tone's pinnacle production. P&T produced some serious heat in hip hop and r&b.
Yo Furio! Don’t sleep on that Foxy Brown album.. dope af. The track with Havoc is super good and there’s another track on it called “If I..” that’s really well made.. as always great job!
The Message is a top 5 Nas song and IWW was great but don’t be silly. Illmatic isn’t just the best Nas album, it’s arguably the greatest 9 tracks (plus an intro) ever put together in music.
@@DJFurio On the Whodini "Friends [Instrumental]" it's written by Larry Smith, who was a part of the group "Orange Krush" along with David Reeves [Davy-DMX] & Trevor Gale, who were the music behind Run-D.M.C., Whodini & Kurtis Blow. Orange Krush is where the "Krush-Groove" name came from.
Did Poke and Tone ever create original music? Every track I hear from them has a sample of someone else’s music. They have great sound quality tho. Their drums smack
Sounds weird but on both the single and album credits of the Nas track, it says it used portions of Friends instrumental written by L Parker, aka KRS-ONE. Have a read of them
@gregorygriffin6341 I would agree and wouldn’t have bothered mentioning it if it wasn’t on both the single and album releases. It does seem strange though
Check the credits on the Nas track and it says it used portions of the Friends Instrumental written by L Parker, which is KRS-One www.discogs.com/release/298151-Nas-It-Was-Written and KRS has also been given a writing credit on the Nas track along with several other people.
