Join me as I take my trusty Mitsubishi Pajero out to the rugged terrain of the Glasshouse Mountains. But there's a twist - I've recently installed a rear differential locker, and I'm itching to put it to the test against the standard traction control system.

In this video, we'll explore the ultimate off-road challenge. I'll provide you with real-time insights and comparisons of how the rear differential locker enhances traction and stability, especially in challenging off-road scenarios.
#mitsubishipajero #offroad #reardifflocker
We'll navigate through rocky trails, steep inclines, and muddy terrain, all while showcasing the practical differences between relying solely on traction control and harnessing the power of a rear differential locker. If you're an off-road enthusiast or considering upgrading your vehicle's off-road capabilities, this video is a must-watch.

A good tip for those Pajero owners with only traction control. Ride the brakes a little bit when TC kicks in. It actually boosts the ability and control of the vehicle. You'd be suprised

@southo69 Not like I backed off on purpose mate. What you see on video is not always what it actually looks like. When the car lifts a wheel or comes down too quick you feel out of control.

What a great demonstration of rear lockers vs traction control. I have a Jeep Wrangler Sport 4 door. It didn't come with a rear or front locker. But now I see how much a locker would help. You did some pretty tippy stuff out there while in view of trees with scars from someone making contact. Even though I don't have a Pajero, I subscribed and of course liked your video. Happy Trails from Arizona.

17min 48sec is a classic case of not following "as slow as possible, but as fast as necessary". A little more momentum and it would likely have walked up with TCS. Coming to a stop when you loose traction and then backing off each time the TCS tries to engage is a surefire way of failing to climb a hill.
@budget4x4life
@budget4x4life 11 месяцев назад
Funny enough I wasn't going faster. Yes it definitely looks like it but its not what happened. With TC on only the car struggled at the start of the hill to gain momentum as there were ruts and the car lost traction. Locker on with the same amount of throttle had no loss of traction and just went straight through the ruts like it weren't there, looking like I went faster. Did the hill again after that slower and still climbed. Don't judge things you see on camera. It may not look always what it seems 🙂🙌🏼

It isn't easy, but try to be smoother with the throttle with the TCS and don't back off as soon as it starts to work. The TCS also works better with a little momentum, it is asking a lot to make a wheel turn from stationary just by using the brakes to transfer power. TCS also works better in more slipper conditions and you will retain full steering and not have the rear trying to step out or slide sides if both wheel spin when using a locker. Lastly TCS will work across an axle when the wheel speed side to side is different. With the locker engage you won't get different wheel speeds, so the TCS will not function on that axle.

Your demo really shows the advantage of a rear locker combined with front traction control. If you have a late model Pajero that comes with factory rear locker as standard, turning the locker on disabled front traction control. In this setting the rear can often slide sideways. Getting the traction control mod to keep front traction control on with rear locker on is well worth it. But sometimes with both you still need to winch😂

You seem to be pumping the gas peddle, backing off when it slips. The brake lock diffs in the traction control are designed to kick in with a low but consistent pedal.

Ah man - awesome video, have been waiting to see the results! Looks like an excellent improvement, will definitely follow suit with mine! Just have to be cautious with the rear traction and diff lock enabled situation, as I think when the rear wheels slip like at 11:34, the brakes would be engaged. Would need to be a driver focus point during offroading - but better have it than not! Good job!

I noticed you feathered the throttle off and on lots, this is not good for the traction control program making it look more inadequate than perhaps it is. With the manual the drive train is always in motion, providing you don't clutch it, and thus the traction control stays initiated more consistantly and hence forward motion is often maintained. This is one reason for the Manual argument. Can't beet differential locks however.

@@ajcuthy1945 thing is it looks like it however I have literally just kept my foot in one spot and the car reacted like that. I reckon it stop a wheel spinning when releases and continues to do that so it looks like I move back and forth all the time 😬

DANGEROUS advice saying use neutral in reverse on a hill!!!!! 🙁You should use reverse and engine braking the same way you would if coming down forwards. If you have an auto you can actually leave it in 1st and apply a small amount of throttle and allow the torque converter to brake for you with the engine. Using neutral is not safe or good advice.
@budget4x4life
@budget4x4life 11 месяцев назад
I disagree mate. My car has a lot of torque and literally pushes the car down hill. This happened a few times now, even going forward downhill I put it sometimes in N so the car doesn't push, having more stress on the brakes. If you leave it in D same thing no chance it will roll back cause of the torque. Other cars may be differen, but I have way more control in N as the car doesn't want to run away with me. With a manual, you can put it in reverse, and as soon as the car goes, you press clutch in anyway. Depends on the gearing of the vehicle too if your car will go slow or in my case the auto just wants to run. That's just my opinion and has been tested numerous times offroad. Take your car and see how it responds in all situations and go with the best method. 💯
