How and why to bump up the pressure on a John Deere tractor. Don't be a dummy; but if you do please record and upload the wreckage. New OSHIT compliance sticker: www.etsy.com/ca/listing/82885...
From the enginerdin’ side you pick your median operating range and double it for spec sheets which go directly to Wika with an $arm+leg and then some fitter with butterfingers smashes it on the ground. Tears of glycerin everywhere and the projects delayed another month but hey only the project manager gets a bonus so who cares!?!
Let me tell you what... Ain't nothing as permanent as a "temporary" solution that works well enough "just once". She'll be sitting at 3000 until she's dragged out of the swamp by archaeologists.
"Ain't nothing as permanent as a "temporary" solution" Yeah, ain't that the truth. Case in point: Temporary Building #1 at the University of Colorado. Built in 1898 and still in use. It's even a historical landmark. Temporarily. www.colorado.edu/coloradan/2016/03/01/origins-temporary-building-no-1
I was working for a manufacturer of that made, among other things, electric power washers. The company got sued because a man electrocuted himself to death using the product. The building next door has a security camera. We got the footage. He was using the sprayer in waist deep water. So the engineers, who were some of the best in the US (no kidding) came up with a safety sensor that would detect if you were holding the spray nozzle while standing in water. Brilliant stuff. They prepared the patent paperwork and the attorneys came parachuting in and shut it down. Apparently, the presence of non-mandated safety equipment shifts the liability from “their fault” to “our fault”. Ask yourself why so much consumer and prosumer lawn tractors don’t come with roll over protection: there’s your answer.
Heard the same argument and similar conclusions about Charles Dalziel's invention, the ground fault interrupter commonly called a GFI or GFCI when it'll supply additional receptacles. The talk was about whether GFI's would become added internally to plug in power tools for outdoor work and who would be at fault if a detection circuit failed and injured someone. That was the mid 70's and GFI's have been so reliable they're here to stay but they didn't become common within many devices. The design you've mentioned could use the same leaking current detection. Weighing the benefit of a safety device against who would be at fault seems to show safety can't escape the laws of relativity either. An interesting comment you left there.
Watching you bounce the rear tire reminds me of being a kid and watching my dad lift a full tidy tank of diesel off the flatbed with the lil kubota tractor. Had the plow on the back with sandbags ratchet strapped on. And of course, as all fathers are known to do, use child labor. Or in my case. Child weight. I was worth at least two sandbags damnit. So I was sitting on the plow with the sandbags too. Seemed to be a recurring theme... Tractor needs counterweight? Sit here. That post auger needs weight to break through the ground? Sit here. I'm gonna have lunch and a smoke with my buddies on the rigs and someone needs to hold the throttle pedal at a certain RPM on the derrick? Keep the tach needle riiiiight here.
Shit...i throw 6 50lb suitcase weights on the back blade and stand on them when i know my dad is gonna try and lift some stupid shit and I'm 24...explains why that b2620 is getting wore out at 2500 hours.
I may or may not, have performed a similar adjustment on my still under warranty Kubota (I'll admit to nothing officer.) in order to haul some over sized logs out of the woods. Grinning ear to ear at my easy success until a little rock no bigger than a corn nubbin lifted my rear wheels clear of the ground whilst I was at the top of a grassy knoll. Why when I realised I was decending said hill on the brakeless front axle I thought to myself, "Self, you are about to die." When I fell forward on the hydraulic levers dumping the load and digging the bucket into the topsoil bringing the tractor and not I to an abrupt halt. I, no I continued on the journey down into the depths of the pucker brush with my wranglers full of something akin to beef gravy. Yep,,,,,,changed that setting back soon after.
AvE, When you need for parts to be held together temporarily, so they can be installed in a hydraulic system, use Vaseline instead of grease, because grease has soap components, which will cause bubbles in your hydraulic fluid to form, which can cause a drop in performance, vibration, unexpected sudden drop in pressure causing a "sudden drop", and other issues associated with having bubbles in a hydraulic system. Vaseline (petroleum jelly/petrolatum), is not grease. It's paraffin, so it doesn't contain the soap but is sticky enough to hold small hydraulic components together for installation and harmlessly dissolve into the hydraulic fluid, without causing bubbles to form..
We only ever used the front loader on our older JD tractor for forking hay rolls. I don't think it has the umph for serious lifting. It is perfect for loading rolls on a wagon, though. Unrelated: I like their equipment, but nothing is easy to replace. Their engineers had some sort of fascination with bolting parts on behind other parts. If John Deere made a car, you'd have to remove the radiator to change a flat tire.
The problem with most gas cans currently available, apparently, is that they're not designed to keep the end user safe. They're designed to keep the manufacturer safe. From the lawyers.
PS the law expired...till they renew search "jerry can" at www.roverparts.com I have 4 now and can empty 5 gal without spilling in less than 1 minutes. www.roverparts.com/off-road-accessories/jerry-cans/GJC20/
Ha!...No shit!.... Sumkina leaky-ass Chinese puzzle contraptionz those are...Need a masters degree in mechanical engineering & a brother in law on the local Haz-Mat team to use one of those! Its certainly AWESOME for us peeps w/a fetish for sniffin spilled gasoline vapors! I wonder if the FORD eginerd/lab tech who designed/destroyed the fuel filler/gas cap omission/safety device/non locking-totally F'd up INFINITY LOCK-(If ya dont have the right O.D filler nozzle)- end run on the "Locking gas cap".....Im sure that kreep got an award/bonus for his amazingly frustrating "Re-design" of such on my 2017 Ford Expedition? I know Im not the only person cursing that man/womans existence? As theyve probably used that abomination on more than one model years? Its jus gotta be an Illuminati conspiracy @ this point?! Most likely the aborted brain baby of Greta Thunbergs retarded enviro-mentalist uncle w/an axe to grind no doubt? Rubs hands together, maniacally grinning: "Ill Show Them-Muuuuuuaaahahahahahaha!" A FINE & SHINING example of over complicating something that isnt broken in the first place... Probably cost 10X's more in T & E than tossing on a simple non-locking/locking cap @ the factory of sadness?
As a fellow farklift operator, I wholefartedly agree. On a more sneerious note, I do hope that we won`t be reading about farm tractor disASSters any time in the future. This only days after a farm tractor accident in La Poubelle Province, where (details not provided by media) it seems that an adult giving rides to other adults and children in the bucket of a front-end loader on a tractor, somehow managed to dump the bucket while in motion, and ended up with ( it`s now up to) 4 dead. The darn things are not toys.
Tertiary forklift operator opinion here. It seems you paid way too many doll hairs for your crown lift truck, which appears to actually be manufactured by Deer John... And is a tractor. Real done fuckulated that one up didn't ya. Oh well, at least with the fancy Yanmar you go there you can go off road, try to send a narrow aisle RD down that farm and you'll get it bogged om the first pebble coming off the handstand. The up side? At least when you need to replace the spark plugs on that machina of yours it comes with a complementary engine swap. Shame the lightning stick swap costs an arm and a dick at 10,000 pesos.
I'm usually big on safety equipment but there is no way these new gas cans are actually safer. They straight-up shoot pressurized gasoline with substantial force when you try to gently vent them if you dare to have any temperature fluctuations. (Heaven forbid change of seasons....) Did somebody figure they could charge more if they patented a new gas can?
My sisters car had a fuel tank without cap, behind the door is the port with some mechanical flap that locks closed if you don't tickle it just right. Was awful fun jamming a pocket knife and a drinking straw itn there in the freezing cold propping the half tank of gas that I *didn't* pour on the gravel up with my knee. Whole thing was a circus.
Had three guys acting as ballast, hanging of the back of our 1.8t forklift when the company imperial probe droid turned up with his clipboard. Told him it took three guys to change the bulb in the beacon.
I've seen people hanging off the back of a forklift when it was trying to pick up something far too heavy. What I found most amusing while I was watching, was when the chain snapped, just how quickly all those people who were so eager to help out disappeared leaving the poor operator alone scratching his head wondering how he is going to explain this to management!
Just got the zero turn John Deere mower hyd drive belt, emergency , long weekend no dealership fix. An alternator belt from a 80s chev, hung on the shop wall with care 25-30 years ago Edit happy? Canada's day eh
I inherited a good 100kg worth of machining cut offs and aircraft fasteners of all kinds from my RAF neighbour when he died; that added to my old mans 30+ years of mechanic hoarding has me set for life in any eventuality of needing the right bit. I’m one lucky fucker!
When she starts looking like she is gonna snap the gauge and you hear metal start to hit the floor, partner that’s when I’m runnin. Even the apprentice knows when to run

Forget the expert knowledge of hydraulics, hilarious terminology, and precise comedic timing. The motherboard RGB reference is what "sealed" the deal. Subscribed.
Hearing you greet the tractor every time you turn the key is hilarious. Reminds me of when I do it on all my old stuff. Gotta make sure she's in a good mood before you work 'er and the first step is a proper greeting.
You’re are one of the smartest men on RU-vid and I want you to know I among many other admire your vast wealth of knowledge... that said I feel better about myself now that I witnessed you turn a bolt the wrong direction, success really can come to anyone! Alas there is hope
I recently found out that Caterpillar makes power tools. They have some kind of unique graphene battery that charges in 20 minutes and seems to be their main bragging point. You should tear one down if you can get a hold of it.
It's probably caterpillar's name slapped on tools made by another company. There are also caterpillar branded workboots and cellphones, neither of which are made by caterpillar.
I just watched the video that you made about putting the hook on and drilling the holes last night. On my multiple day long rabbit hole in your channel. Again, one of many.
oneselmo I’ve seen the movie but didn’t get the reference, the tone made me think hello kitty, and as such I will make a John CAT hello kitty edition lawn shredding tractor
Brandon Lang Not to be confused with "Dave, let me in. Dave? Dave's not here. DAVE, I've got the stuff, now let me in! Dave? Dave's not home, etc" with apologies to Cheech and Chong. 🤣
I know this sounds trite but you didn’t fail AvE because we, the subscribers, all learned something👍🏻. Valuable life lessons are hard to come by. Keep up the good work.
My best lucky laying-on-the-road find was that exact same Snap-On ratchet, with bonus thumb wheel spinner. A quick rebuild kit and she's now as good as new!
Heh I just had the dealer at my house to service my 2038r, it would pick up 1600lbs when it was new but at a year old it wouldn't pick up 1200lbs at all. They pressure checked everything, checked for bleed off of the cylinders etc etc and determined that the jam nut didn't jam and the adjustment screw was not where it was supposed to be, guy told me the psi should be 2500-2990 and mine was sitting at 2330. Told him if he was gonna bump it up....BUMP IT ALL THE WAY Now I'm at 2800 at idle and 2990 at 1500 rippems and I'm able to unload a full ton of pellets off the trailer. Amazing how a little extra pissers give you so much more lifting power.
I'm used to my old IH cub cadet, which hasn't seen a safety switch in many years, and I've used an old John Deere tractor that didn't know about safety, so now when I use something new the switch drives me crazy. You can't so much as stretch without setting the darn thing off. New skid steers were particularly a pain because it locks everything when you get out of the seat, but at least they thought ahead and gave a few seconds of empty seat time before that happens.
When a man in a workshop surrounded by tools and good ideas says , " I'm temporarily adjusting ......................." we all know there ain't nothing more permanent than temporary.
This is exactly what I have been doing this year with two tractors, one my MF35x which can now lift death weight size stuff over 1000kg and what that "John Deere" is like which is a 2006 chinese 3cyl 30hp 4x4 tractor which struggled to lift a fork of horse poo but now can do 900kg which I thought was enough for saying less than competent drivers will be operating it! NIce video Ave nice.
Opening in tight spaces is almost a magical experience, by prefeeling and hearing the impact of your nuckles. I guess it has something to do with Einstein or tachyons
When I was a wee lad of 17 or 18 I was employed as a sod tosser making rich folks homes have pretty lawns and such. We had a Kabota 45HP tractor snap right half in two at the transmission because we used the three point to pick up pallets of rain soaked sod here in the Pacific Northwest. Overstepping the weight limits is always possible, but not always advisable.
We had a custom weighted attachment for the rear of our tractor to help counter balance some of the sketchier loads. Also helped with doing wheelies when the front end loader was removed 😅
In the early days of Turbo cars, I had a friend who mounted an adjustable wastegate, and adjusted it according to factory boost, but then he cranked the boost up one turn to race, and after the race he turned it back half a turn. the next race, up one turn, back a half. After a coupe of races he blew the engine, rebuilt it and then measured the boost, he was waaay over what anyone would think a stock engine could take, so he turned it down a full turn...
Ave, you the man! But one more tweek you can do that keeps the pucker factor lower is stick some blocks in the front axle to keep it from pivoting when unloading the trailer etc. I have some alum flat just the right thickness and keep them around when needed. Keep up the great vijaos!
