Norfolk Tides reporter David Hall discusses the rumors that the Orioles called the Pittsburgh Pirates earlier this season and offered Jackson Holliday straight up for Jared Jones.
I mean sure we would do it for Skenes instantly-- for a 3.5 ERA Jones -- eh nah. I can't imagine they would ever even consider trading 6 years of Skenes.
I heard that too yesterday. I love it! Makes sense for both teams. Pirates are loaded with young pitchers, and O's are loaded with infielders. This opens up 3B for Mayo and Westburg slides over to 2B. Nothing wrong with that at all.
Really? How about the fact that Jones is on the IL for a lat strain with no timetable for his return? You'd trade a 20 year old future superstar for an injured pitcher?
@@jayseaborg3895 What good it does to Jackson if he cant play day to day because infield is fulled, for O's and his own future trade him for Jones makes all the sense in the world right now.
@@jayseaborg3895 I did not know that! Great point. My point is that trading Jax for a young, future Ace could be a really good idea. It's a bit high price to pay, but the O's will have to overpay a bit to get a young ace. And it really helps to settle things since Westy can move to 2B with Mayo to 3B. That's all.
Feel like floating Holliday to get a young pitcher with control would signal that ownership doesn't intend to spend on bringing in impact FA pitching. That said if we do go that route go get Skubal.
You lost me at "a report out of social media". I don't know why anyone would take this garbage seriously. Aaron Judge in his first year with Yanks in 2016 at the age of 24 hit .179 and had an OPS+ of 61 in his first 27 games (84 AB).
same. both 2b and ss and 3b,,,, and back up c and all of the OF, and back up pitcher, each is diff position, try third too, that will educate you on the IF
Who is Holliday being projected to be ? He is 5’9 175 lbs at best he is a .275 15 HR guy in the majors. Who are the Orioles projecting him to be. We don’t have a legit good pitching prospect in our system.
They didnt know they were going to NEED a pitcher, hence the conversation. As good as Jackson is, he came up too soon and has plenty of time to develop. And if you want the O's to deliver NOW, you have to consider adding an ace to the rotation. Moving Jackson is a little unfavorable, but if this trade were to happen, I can see it working out well for both clubs and especially the O's.
If the Orioles could get Skubal I'd trade holiday. Personally I'd prefer an infield of Mayo, Gunnar and Westburg. To the point of him learning a new position to me it's just another reason he needs to stay in the minors. Mayo is the one that I want to come up next but that's just my opinion.
i heard that the analytics geeks think that jackson has a real problem with his swing i wouldnt know but just something i heard.. but in all reality the odds of the O's have that many amazing hitters and them all panning....?
"Ill trade Holliday for Skenes!" Lmao Skenes is the least acquirable player in the entire sport. You would literally need to offer some fever dream package like Gunnar, Jackson, Mayo and Basallo to even get started
This was coming out from a reputable source in Pittsburgh sports journalism. And remember the Orioles approached the Pirates to do this, and Pittsburgh said no.
I mean….: nah. Just not proven enough, we also need some pen help so it would be better to get a 2fer from the White Sox, Marlins, shit I’d pick through the Angels BP right now.
The rumor doesn't seem fully believable to me. I wouldn't make that trade. But I am a fan of both Jones and Holliday. And we will dive into much more trade talk as we push closer.
This might be stupidest rumor out there. Holliday can be a player that can produce every single day. A stud pitcher has limited upside. The gm would be getting fleeced if Jackson Holliday turns out to be a Mookie Betts type of player. Players like Holiday aren't avaible every year.
I think the hard truth is Jackson Holliday is the odd man out. Westy is our 2nd baseman of the future. He is already a .280 / 30 home run guy in his first full season. Jackson isn’t as untouchable as everyone thinks in my opinion
Like where does Jackson fit? We aren’t moving Mayo. We aren’t moving Gunnar. Westy is staying put. Corner outfield maybe? We have to think it would be rounded out with Norby, Cowser, Bradfield Jr., and Kjerstad
I agree and also agree it's too early to move him. However, what if mason miller costs holliday and 2 mid levels which for other teams are high levels... would you do it? With the rest of the farm the way it is, think I would
@@ACD1994 I don’t see it as giving up on Holliday as much as I see it as Holliday being blocked at the big league level and we can move him now for some serious pitching talent to put us over the top.
@@TheMustangGT2007 absolutely would do it. Like I said to @ACD1994 Moving Holliday wouldn’t exactly be an indictment on Holliday, but just the way things have shaken out. I think we all can agree, if Holliday turns out to be a .280 hitter with 30 hrs a year, that would be a success. Well, we already have that in Westy. Who knows. I’d love to have Mason Miller and Skenes would be unreal
We just were assessing the rumor. And like we said, we wouldn’t think nor would we do the trade in that position. Side note though, love Jones and Holliday. Think they are both going to have great careers
