Tradeback Pokemon Race - Is Red/ Blue Gyarados or Crystal Exeggutor faster in Pokemon Yellow?

Gyarados and Exeggutor are top tier in Gen 1, but both also have a fatal flaw - They can't beat Brock on Minimum Battles! At least not in Pokemon Yellow... But what is we gave Gyarados its completely OP Red/Blue Level 5 moveset and Exeggutor its Gen 2 starting learnset plus Mega Drain as an Egg move? Can these two Pokemon take down an S-tier finish under my hardcore solo challenge rules?

~~Rules~~
-Solo Challenge: No other Pokemon in battle, no items in battle, no glitches/exploits (other than badge boost glitch)
*IF starter faints, we can faint HM Pokemon to blackout*
-No Vitamins
-0 DVs/0 IVs
-No optional battles (Pokedoll glitch is a glitch, therefore banned)

~~Scoring System~~
Scoring:
-Pokemon Starts with a score of 100 points.
-Minus 0.1 points per reset (10 resets = 1 point)
-Minus 0.25 points per optional battle (4 optional battles = 1 point)
-Minus 1 point per TM (Excluding Broken TMs)
-Minus 10 points per Broken TM (Double Team, Substitute, Mimic, Rest, Bide, Toxic)

Process:
Every Pokemon goes through 3 separate tests:
1. Minimum Battles
2. No TMs
3. Optimization for score on the tier-list
Standard Rules:
1. 0 DVs/ 0 IVs (Worst Possible Stats).
2. No Items in Battle.
3. No Stat Boosting Vitamins (HP Up, Carbos, Iron, Calcium, Protein).
4. No other Pokemon in battle (HM Mules allowed outside of battle).
5. Timer STARTS when I select New Game, and ENDS when the Champion is defeated.
6. Required Battles are the 65 battles that cannot be avoided without glitches (See Jrose11's original Minimum Battles video.
7. Pokedoll Glitch is a glitch and therefore banned.
8. Brock Through Walls is banned.
9. Badge Boost Glitch is allowed without restrictions.
10. Save states for routing and catching HM Pokemon only.
11. No wild encounters, except to catch HM Pokemon.

I find it amusing that Gyarados and Exeggutor's Slow growth rates are actually kind of an advantage here, since leveling up more slowly makes it so they become disobedient more slowly.

Exactly! And once you add in the faster EXP from being traded, they almost level up like fast level up Pokemon.

If my mayh is correct, it's only slightly slower a Fast growth rate Pokémon. The level formula for a Slow growth rate mon is (5/4)(x^3), where x is the target level (for instance, to reach Level 10, you need (5/4)(10^3) EXP, which comes out to 1250.) (Really wish I could write the ^3 as a superscript, but my formatting options are limited.) If you're gaining 50% more experience, you effectively need 2/3 the experience you would normally need. So (5/4)(2/3)(x^3) = (10/12)(x^3) = (5/6)(x^3). For comparison, x^3 is the level up formula for Medium Fast growth rate mons, and (4/5)(x^3) is the formula for a Fast mon. The level up formula for Medium Slow mons is a bit trickier to compare to, since it's a more complex polynomial: (6/5)(x^3) - 15(x^2) + 100x - 140. (I did have to look that one up, and also this is where I really wish I could use superscript.) I tried calculating stuff to for the comparisons, but I ended up frustrating myself so I'll leave that to someone whose algebra and calculus isn't so rusty it's on the verge of disintegrating. Of course, saying that the growth rate of a traded Slow growth rate mon is (x^3)(5/6) isn't entirely accurate, since having boosted experience introduces an additional layer of rounding that messes with things, but it's pretty darn close.

So... I have a confession to make. I started down this solo challenge with you, RBYchallenges, and really enjoyed the content. Then, I randomly happened upon Scott's Thoughts through auto play one day and spent a good solid week being confused. You see. You have similar energy when talking, so I thought you were the same guys for a bit and spent that first week going through runs I thought I had watched already like Mewtwo and the Starters and what have you only to realize that I had been watching separate channels after getting a bit confused why it was auto playing runs I had watched before. I discovered two fantastic solo challenge runners that day. Been watching you both about a year now. Keep up the good work man. Super interesting stuff.

@@RBYPokemonChallenges I just love your Super Minimum battles runs, man. I think your polish is just fine by the eye test, by the way. Great, in fact. You each put your own spin on this form of challenge in Gen. 1, and it really shows in your presentation. Plus, you don't abuse Rest strats as much, so I really respect that as I have long since banned the move in my own adventures. I'd call Scott more of a efficient speed runner and you more of a pure challenge runner. It really helps you guys out with identity and giving a different perspective on how these runs can be.... well... run.

So before watching the video completely I think that with minimum battles the disobedience won't be that much of an issue since the badges will make Pokémon obey faster than they will level up

Why do you cut the tree to the west of lavender town? I think it's faster to go up and over. Is it cus it's harder to avoid the trainers on the left at higher game speed?

Exactly. You have to route through a 1-tile space to route around all the trainers, and it's so much simpler this way. At 1x speed, I can definitely see the argument for that routing though.

It’s funny how often sleeping moves become a detriment, being used when it’s not necessary and taking additional time and damage from how wildly inaccurate it is. The 60% accuracy is a trap; don’t listen to the siren’s song.

In some cases, I absolutely agree. Against Blaine or Lorelei, there are spots where that 60% chance could be enough, but in practice it's just so bad.

I didn’t predict Gyarados having trouble vs Blaine or Exeggutor to have so much trouble against Lorelei! GGs, my prediction failed but it was sick anyways :3

Yeah, Blaine is almost always a minor wall on Minimum Battles, especially with 0 DVs. Lorelei comes down to the fact that Jynx is so fast and is guaranteed to use Ice Punch!

I can reach anywhere on my back, so itches there are not much of a problem. The problem is an itch on my heel or the like where the skin is so tough that scratching just doesn’t get through.

If you lose the Oak's lab fight -> Vaporeon If you win in the lab and lose/skip the optional Rival 1a fight -> Flareon If you beat both Rivals before Brock -> Jolteon

I never thought about doing the Gyarados run out of order to get past surge in the prediction post. I genuinely think (from doing the surge fight at lvl30 on a test rom) that an "in order" clause would have caused Gyarados to win the game timer, but Exeggutor to win the IRL timer. As i was only able to win the surge fight through rng.

Yeah, Surge is always beatable I. Yellow because he could just miss or use Growl enough times eventually. But since he and Erika are skippable until just before Giovanni, that is generally the more optimal routing.
