My little plant isn’t so little anymore. Time to repot it and give it a little hair cut. Come and see how easy to propagate this plant. This is a very easy plant to care for. It’s grows like crazy and so pretty. And most importantly it has PINK in it. 😁

I like to touch mine and untangle it often. When a piece falls off I lay it horizontally on top of the soil in the plant and it has gotten so full! These plants root in moist soil really fast, like 4 days! Love them!

I really like Tradescantia’s. You might plant the all green sections seperately, I don’t think they will become variegated again. I think they turn green due to lack of bright light. The pink intensifies with brighter light. I like to water propagate the cut sections, but mostly I just cut and stick them back in the original pot ☺️ or just create a new pot. I literally have so many Tradescantia Zebrina plants, I have to give them away 😝. I have the same cute Daiso pots. I’m still waiting to find the panda 🐼 pot 😔 Happy Planting 💜🌺🌸

When repotting I usually use cactus succulent mixes with perlite because I tend to over water things. If I don't have that available regular potting mix with perlite works just fine too. Thanks for watching.

I find plants dry out so fast in those pots, I use only for Cacti plants. My brother last week gave me a scraggly plant of wondering jew, he had outdoors in like a greenhouse type structure. I need to know how much light or sun, how much water they take, what type of soil, etc and so forth. I can't find nearly enough info on these plants.
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
I tend to be a heavy waterer so I like to use a well draining mixture even tho it might not be necessary for this plant. And that’s another reason why I use terra cottas for almost everything. If you have the common tradescantias or wonder Jews just treat this plant the same. I water mine when its completely dry. As for lighting...I have some in dark rooms and some outdoors. Just play around with your plant to see what it likes. If you do give it a brighter environment just make sure you slowly help it adjust so it doesn’t burn. Help it acclimate to its near environment.

@GotPlants

Kayla Pardy Got the piggy planter at a Daiso. If you’re not familiar with Daiso it’s kinda like a Japanese dollar store. Finally found one when I was vacationing...wish I had one near me. They sell the cutest things. As for brown spots on leaves...I think it might have to do with the lighting and watering. I recently brought my Tradescantia Nanouk out without acclimate it and now there’s browns spots everywhere.

Can i use cactus/succi medium for this kind of tradescantia tricolour ? And how to make it more pinkish ?
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 4 года назад
alysha heikal that should be fine. I tend to use a lot of cactus mix myself because I tend to over water everything. Just monitor it and make sure to water it when needed. Also to keep its variegation the key is to give it light. Keep it in a bright location but not in direct sunlight.

We like to use neem for pests. We also have mosquito bits that we sometimes put in our soil mix. It’s suppose to kill the larvae of the gnats.

I have this plant. My cuttings are reverting to green. Do you know if the reverting plant will produce the tri color leaves?
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
Hmm...I think once it reverts to green it stays green. To keep the variegation you should provide it with better lighting and pinch off the plant that's turning green. I pinch my plant down all the time. No need to worry if you're pinch off too much of the plant because this plant is a pretty fast grower. For me at least.
@annejala
@annejala 6 лет назад
Hi...what kind of potting soil and how much water do you give it and how often do you water it? Thxs
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 6 лет назад
I pot most of my plants in a cactus succulent mix. I like how it provides better drainage for them. I tend of overwater. As for my watering schedule...it really varies. It depends if it’s indoors or outdoors...the pots it’s in...the size of the pot. So doing the finger test (where you stick your finger in to test how moist it is) is the best method. For this particular plant I wait until it dries out a little bit on the top and than water it thoroughly.

@GotPlants 6 лет назад
Christine Trundley oh no! What’s wrong with the plant? Where do you have it? I really don’t do anything special with my plant. I just give it bright indirect light and keep it moist...make sure it doesn’t sit in wet soil too long. Maybe make some cuttings as a backup.
@christinetrundley2257
@christinetrundley2257 6 лет назад
Got Plants? Not sure. Leaves keep turning brown and falling off. I have it in a semi bright window. I just recently hung it in the window hoping that will help. I try to keep it moist, I just recently got a water meter I’m always afraid of over watering. I’m def going to give it a trim to have backup. The plant was hard to find and it’s so pretty I hope I can keep it alive! Thanks for your advice 💚🌿
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 6 лет назад
Browning usually means you’re either under watering (like what happened to some of my leaves.). Or it could also mean over watering too. If some of the roots is rooted and can’t take up water that would cause the leaves to look that way too. Using ur water meter when watering should help. I usually just do the finger test. And pot plant up with a drainage hole to prevent over watering too. Well Gluck with your plant. Hope you can revive it.

Hello! May I ask you some suggestions to take care of this one? My sister bought me one that had pretty flashy pink leaves but since I got it home, the pink and even the white part of the green leaves are turning pale yellow... I repoted it two days ago, and the soil was full of water... I wonder if it is because I watered it a little too much... Do you think that might be the reason of it turning pale?
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
drea natsu It seems like it might be overwatering. Only water when the plant feels almost dry. If you don’t like the pale or damage leaves just prune is back. This plant grows fast and it would also help the plant grow out nice and full.
@aruku4round
@aruku4round 5 лет назад
@@GotPlants Thanks you. It was definitely overwatering.... I removed it from the pot it came with and the soil was drenched in water. I left it out a little out of it so the water can evaporate easily, removed half of the drenched soil and added with repoting so it can absorb the extra water. I hope it'll be okay now and the roots won't die.
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
drea natsu You should take some cuttings just in case the plant isn’t doing well. This plants root very easily. Wish you luck with your plant. 😊💚🌱

I have the variety that has silver sheen lines but i don't have any indirect sunlight spot in my home. In my balcony there is brightness but no sunlight and i kept one there. The leaves are growing and it is getting long but it has no silver lines also the purple colour at the back of the leaves doesn't show up in the daytime. When i switch on the light then purple colour at the back of the leaves is reflected . The other one i have is outside my house gets full bright or even scorching sunlight toooo and the growth is good but the leaves have no silver sheen lines but at the back of the leaves there is purple colour. What can i do for the first one? i want it to have silver lines ..
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
Are you referring to the tradescantia zebrina? I don't really know of any other one with silver lines....or at least i can't think of it right now. If it a zebrina it should always have a purple backing...no mater what kind of lighting you give it. The only difference is the top of the leaves....if you give it very bright light conditions the tops turns purple...if you give it low light conditions it would turn back to a greenish color. But either way there are silver simmer should still remind.

@numerouno5477 5 лет назад
@@GotPlants okay thank you very much for replying😊😊. All of the leaves are not fully grown as of now . I will wait . There are newly brown patches on the leaves , can it be because of fungus?
@GotPlants
@GotPlants 5 лет назад
@@numerouno5477 hmm...brown patches? It could be. You could try to remove them and make sure when watering to not get the leaves wet...also increase some air circulation around your plants. Sometimes browning (like on the edges or tips) could also mean bad watering habits...either too much water or youre letting it dry out too much.

Happy planting first off!! Just commenting on some misguided info, such as: there are more than 2 ways to propagate such as "separating", which is when you have a matured Tradescantia (wandering Jew) plant and separate the roots while gently pulling apart the plant and propagate. Also you really shouldn't just "stick a wandering Jew right into the soil" as it should have root hormone to encourage roots to grow. When you were having a difficult time pulling the plant out, it was most likely because the roots had been exposed underneath the pot or the roots were bound since the pot was too tiny. Lastly, you should always mention drainage. The medium needs to be a quick draining as wandering Jew likes to always have moist soil but not soaked as the roots will rot. I think your fantastic but I would be really sad if someone didn't tell me about how important drainage holes are when transplanting! Your plant WILL die if your permanent pot has no holes. Okay sorry to make it seem like I'm a know it all because I'm not, I just think as a plant mum we should be constantly sharing information because I've been incorrect before and would have appreciated if someone corrected me when I first started growing indoors. 🤦
