Wow. Brings back memories. In 2008 I bought two four-door 85 model Diesel Turbo Mercedes play the guy 1400 for them brought them home use the red one for every day driving put it on cooking oil ran beautiful for about 6 years. Finding some parts were kind of hard
Vacuum is the only problem to look at. Change lines. Check pump. Etc. LOVE It. 💕. Engine mounts. And trans block. For pinion angle. Mr. Chong. I love it.
Hahaha. Thanks for the tips. I actually found that the vacuum line at the modulator on the trans was disconnected. It's still not shifting perfect, though. All the vacuum lines look good. I still have to do a proper vacuum test. And I got the bowden cable adjusted properly, which made a difference as well.
I got a Sedan 300D Turbo in November. Sounds like you know what you are up to, but here's a few pointers since it looks like you have a bit of work ahead on this car. First thing is to do a valve adjustment before any damage occurs Any electrical issues, replace all aluminum fuses with proper copper or brass fuses. The aluminum fuses are junk. Check the recess where the hood springs go for leaf litter, dirt, and severe rust. It can eat a hole right into the cab of the car, and also down through the rocker panels. Run a few cans of diesel purge in a closed loop to help clean injectors and injection pump.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the tips. I've already made a few improvements and checked things over. From what I understand, I'll have to bend a couple 14mm wrenches to do the valve adjustment. I'll get to that asap. And diesel purge just showed up. I already changed the filters, so I'm going to get another set of filters to change again after diesel purge. Thanks for watching.
Oh and might as well crack the plastic cap off the ALDA adjustment screw and back it out all the way. You'll get way more power in the bottom end before the turbo kicks in.
Just finished watching. Looking forward to the new on this. I understand. Love it. Very cool. Thanks for the post. Watching cause I got a natural 300d 1976. Guide me. Love it 😍
Awesome. I'm happy to share my experience. The new video with it should have been out today, but I ran into an issue, and now I'm having to re-edit the whole thing. Hopefully, tomorrow, it will be posted.
I definitely have to balance my desire and need to throw money at it, with what its actual value may be. I love this car and I'm going to do right by it. But It will never be totally restored. Just mechanically restored and a few cosmetic and functional improvements that it will get over time. If I had the money, I would definitely go all the way. But I'm really happy to just have the opportunity to drive such an awesome car that I've wanted for years.
