I love that you love your bay window bus. I have had two bay window buses and two Vanagons, currently in a Vanagon. Yes the bays are cool, but when you go throwing shade on other VW owners it kills your whole cool VW vibe.

For us an upgrade from a 73 tin top to a 89 Westy was huge. That was in 89. We found a 87 Westy several years ago. You will remember these moments for life. I hope they are good memories.

Strange - my Vanagon has none of these features that you attribute to the comfortable "Vanagon-Life" No Gray Interior. Its all wooden and colorful here. No AC, no electric Windows and Mirrors. No Fancy Swivel High Seats. And also no Waterleaks. Aircooled all the Way Baby! :D

The table you put up at the bench seat is the smaller of the two tables and its for the front seats.

FWIW, my 78 is my favorite camper. My 85 with 16" mercedes wheels is a PITA to get in and out of. The subaru allows it to move and accelerate up past 70 mph. When I was packing it for it's first weekend camping trip, I have to wonder how any van lifes in these! It is possible since You've done it.

I have owned my share of Volkswagens from a split window buse to bay window campers, to Vanagon’s. I do understand what you say about Volkswagens, once you own one you love them. But, having now owned my 87 Westy camper I doubt I would ever own a bay window again as you get older, you like reliability and I never really had the reliability in my 71 bay window. After putting a Subaru motor in my 87 Westy, I can literally leave town and travel across country with no worries. Cheers,

Awww man loved this one, funny and very entertaining, your girlfriend is ADORABLE AND just all around AN AWESOME TROOPER, glad you guys were just renting the vanagon, they are cool but the Bus has way more character. 👍🏼👍🏼.

"Next up, coffee..." - that would be my first step. BTW, nice spec with the Westie - noted the AWD Synchro version nearby, (do Vanagons group together for herd protection?!) - do you think that more 'off-roady' version would be handier for your adventures? This is still a great way to live - on the complete opposite end of the scale of pace, my son and I are heading to Japan in 4 weeks - I've booked 4 days hiking around Mt Fuji as an antidote to the 17 day city rush!
