I love that this scene is now taboo. It makes it all the funnier. And the fact that the principal from Breakfast Club is in this scene is the icing on the cake.
its amazing lol i always come back and watch it. i dont think the context of it is racist at all....they are clearly good friends. eddie is in on the joke. eddie did whiteface. back then they really knew how to make proper fun of racism. and nobody got triggered....i miss this kind of humor
The 80-90s had the most racist (by today’s standards) but funniest stuff. This is coming from a Korean American. Tons of “racist” movies about Asians and every other race too but some of them was hilarious.
that one sample at 0:25 changed the NYC ballroom scene and vogue forever when Masters at Work sampled it for The Ha Dance. History was made... I only just found this original and omg.. shivers. Heard that sample probably hundreds of thousands of times looped in various Has and now to hear the original its just goose bumps lol
omg, ok so I have had that record for quite sometime and I just watched this scene as I was watching the movie and my eyes widened .... like omg no fucking way this is where the sample is from. sure enough I google it and find ur comment.
My Jamaican and Haitan neighbors here in Miami (I'm white) watch this over my house every Christmas at our party. They howl with laughter every year because its funny. No politics or racism, just comedy...
+Mat's Destiny & Waffles People protested Tropic Thunder a bit, but RDJ still got an Oscar nomination. Thankfully there's still some common sense in the world. ;)
Owen Daniels angry little trolls aren't they! Look at that filth he spews at the end of his high and mighty rant about black face being wrong "like slavery". Guy needs a colouring book and a safe space!
ChromeArty, liberals are completely devoid of any sense of humor these days; they can't laugh at themselves. Stand-up comedians of all races complain you can't perform on college campuses anymore. A bunch of snowflakes waiting to be offended by everything.
0:06 - 0:12 Eddie Murphy does not say a word in these six seconds and his absolutely hilarious. His comedic timing and facial expressions are absolutely impeccable.
Nenge? Nenge Mboko? It is me, Lionel Joseph! From the African Education Conference! Yah, mon, I was Director of Cultural Activities at the Haile Selassie Pavilion. I remember the pavilion - we had big fun there! Boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, hah! Boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, boo-boo yah, hah! 🤣🤣😆😆😆
jaywar69 I've always wanted to put "Director of Cultural Events at the Haille Selassie Pavilion" on my C.V. as a joke. My cover letter would also begin, "I was born a poor black child" even though I'm white.
This movie had to be the first time in history that blackface didn't offend anybody at all - nobody cared because it was all about the general humor :)
Joe Masters -Try the silver streak movie....look and see for yourself....made in the 70's ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-JgAxvukW9dA.html
In this PC world today this will be offensive. me I love it...then and forever a great impression of a Jamaican....right for the scene and ground breaking.
- OUR WHOLE SOCIETY OUR PLANET LEFLEUR VERNEIGT SICH VOR EUCH AND IS LOOKING FORWARD FOR A NEW WHICH ALSO COULD BE AN ELDER TIME FULL OF PLEASURE ART AND GREATNESS WHAT A GREAT TIMELESS PIECE OF ART -
Oh boy, did this scene not age well... Hahahaha. Times sure as hell have changed. Legit no one batted an eyelash when this was in a movie 30 years ago. Still one of the best 80's comedies. :)
@@007beck9 enjoy life, have fun, share a laugh... but never at the expense of others. It was a different time for sure (I was there), but that doesn’t make it alright.
@@AardvarkTaxi but thats just the same as 2 back guys dressing up as 2 white girls in the film White Chicks. its acceptable for black people to do it but not the other way round.
We goin ta Italia 90 Irie wit ya playin inta goal... It ain rite till it Milla time pull ta Higuita hair Irie all the time man... Colombian chase ol Roj like a silver bullet fa dat man... Irie!!!
This is comedy gold in a glorious time when there was no political correctness and social justice warriors. Even Eddie Murphy was on-board with Aykroyd's ridiculously bad blackface (which is really, what made this scene funny).
One charming usage of blackface is not offensive (like this one, so cute), but that does not mean it is ridiculous to be offended by blackface. Please remember that. Same goes with yellowface.
In my opinion the year is not what made this ok. Its eddy that made it ok. He is a pro black comedian and he gave it the ok. Its like if a white guy says the n word on the chapelle show. No one would trip.
yeah, they really could take a joke back then. they really understood, that the best way to fight racism is just to make fun of it and let everything go
