This is a video review of one of my traditional bow hunting setups, an Acadian Woods three piece tree stick, 43# at 28". I'm shooting it with full length Black Eagle Instinct arrows with Valkyrie and Ethics components, turkey feathers and trad vanes. This is a set up I've hunted with a number of times in the past, so in addition to talking about the bow, I also explain how I have it set up and how I shoot it to get the best result.

Thank you for detailing your equipment. I killed my first P&Y whitetail with a JK Traditions longbow that has a similar profile to your bow. It is retired now because it took a herculean effort for me just to be good at 20-yards. Good luck this fall. I hope you get another big one like that 10-point that was nearly saved by the twig in front of your bow. Thanks again.

I found the same thing with my black hunter, I evolved to a higher anchor and my groups tightened up and came back to center from the right....i'm also a lefty. That bow looks really slick, can't wait to upgrade next year.

Good video! I hunted with recurves and long bows for at 25 years. I got into making my own laminated long bows. It’s a lot of work. I love spot and stalk with traditional bows and wood arrows. I’ve never used aluminum or carbon. There’s nothing like getting within 25 yards of a deer and being able to so slowly raise the bow and slowly silently draw and release a killing shot. Hard to do with a compound in comparison.

I’m looking forward to watching you hunting with your longbow. Your left and right groups can also be fixed by adjusting your brace height.

I have a 64” One piece Treestick. Tim makes in my opinion the most desirable fit and finish bows out there. It’s a low wrist and the grip is perfect. Very repeatable bow grip for me and I think Acadian has one of the best shelf designs. Funny you mentioned hitting right. I seem to shoot left with mine (but it’s right handed.) Not sure what I changed but I hit right where I look now. 54lb 450 victory carbon trads and 175 bh 50 hit insert. @595gr

That bow is beautiful!!!!!! I would have upped the weight slightly to 48. There are magic setups for every inch of axle to axle or lengths in trad bows. Arrow weight is perfect for 48 lbs of draw. That is a long bow for turkeys though. GREAT VIDEO !!! Thanks keep it up love your content!

Great Video Garrett! I especially appreciated your experience with string walking. I was thinking about starting out learning the fixed crawl but I think I think I will look into this split vision method or instinctive gap. Would love to see you do an in depth video on that as well as I’m not sure I really understand this split vision method. I also liked what I saw on PUSH recently where he used the back of his broadhead to line up his shots. Thought that was an interesting method as well but it appears to be part of the fixed crawl method. Thanks again sir!

Yes, aiming methods would be a good topic for a video. The easiest way to implement something like what I've done is to initially find your gap and reference the tip of the arrow as part of the aim, but then you are primarily just focusing on the target. Sometimes with pure gap shooting people will hold the tip right on a spot below the point they want to hit, and that's where they are focusing. I'd venture to say that many people who are shooting instinctive are actually still aware, subconsciously, of where the arrow is at in their sight picture. This method does become a lot easier if your gaps are small, like if you're using a high anchor, slow arrow, long arrow, etc to keep the point very close to where you want to hit. String walking is another method to reduce that gap which allows you to basically shoot point on at any distance.

Hey man!! Loved the video! More trad content please! Give us some tips that you think are the most important to get a good backtension shot without shoulder pulling 😉 and other form tips!

Sounds good! Hiring a coach will always be #1 but I've struggled with that same exact issue in the past and should be able to explain how I've improved it and the resources I used.

One last time X a million. The stupid Anchor advice on the internet needs to stop. RULE 1 Your Anchor is when your in Alignment, not where you touch anywhere on your face. Those are just touch references. Your proper Anchor is when your at full alignment with your Rhomboid set ready to proceed with back tension that is an Archers Anchor. The rest is just bull…t & made up nonsense said by guys who have no business teaching Archery. Your not guilty of this great video!

You ever use hang on stand anymore? I’m kinda new to saddle and was wondering if I can get in trees with saddle that I could with hang on
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 11 месяцев назад
I still will occasionally use a stand if I'm hunting an area where there's a good likelihood I'll be hunting in an evergreen like a spruce or tamarack. For those, sometimes there are too many limbs to make being on the backside of the tree viable for Boe clearance and trimming, and it makes more sense to be on the front side. Beyond that, saddle vs a premium hangon could be treated as roughly equivalent IMO for tree flexibility. And there are some ultra specific examples where either one might be a better choice purely based on the lean of a particular tree relative to where you want your strongside to be.

@@DIYSportsman thank you, which one do you find more comfort in
@DIYSportsman
@DIYSportsman 11 месяцев назад
@robbo392 That totally depends on the specifics of brand/model and setup. If you're comparing a minimalist saddle setup against something like a millenium or summit, then the stand is more comfortable. But if you're comparing something like the Tethrd Lockdown against a minimalist stand with small seat and platform, then the saddle is more comfortable. Generally I don't have much of an issue with either.

I tried to order a bow from these guys once, probably the rudest people I have ever dealt with. I have a lot of bows from black widow, border archery, bushmen bows, ect but these guys were so rude and unhelpful I’d never recommend Arcadian to anyone that want to buy a custom trad bow. In my experience the best customer service would go to bushmen bows! Constant updates, regular pics on the build progress and the best customer service from any one , second would be black widow. Arcadian, just garbage.
