Thanks for the show. I would include the Five First Saturdays Devotion that Our Lady of Fatima asked for, and the first Nine Fridays Devotion to the Sacred Heart.
Bartholomew (Ancient Greek: Βαρθολομαῖος, romanized: Bartholomaîos; Latin: Bartholomaeus; Armenian: Բարթողիմէոս; Coptic: ⲃⲁⲣⲑⲟⲗⲟⲙⲉⲟⲥ; Hebrew: בר-תולמי; Arabic: بَرثُولَماوُس, romanized: Barthulmāwus) was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus according to the New Testament. He has also been identified as Nathanael or Nathaniel,[2] who appears in the Gospel of John when introduced to Jesus by Philip (who also became an apostle), (John 1:43-51) although many modern commentators reject the identification of Nathanael with Bartholomew.[3] Saint Bartholomew the Apostle Sts-john-and-bartholomew-with-donor-dosso-dossi.jpg Saint John and Saint Bartholomew (right) by Dosso Dossi, 1527 Apostle and martyr Born 1st century AD Cana, Galilee, Roman Empire Died 1st century AD Albanopolis, Armenia[1] Venerated in All Christian denominations which venerate saints Major shrine Saint Bartholomew Monastery in historical Armenia, Relics at Basilica of San Bartolomeo in Benevento, Italy, Saint Bartholomew-on-the-Tiber Church, Rome, Canterbury Cathedral, the Cathedrals in Frankfurt and Plzeň, and San Bartolomeo Cathedral in Lipari Feast August 24 (Western Christianity) June 11 (Eastern Christianity) Attributes Knife and his flayed skin, Red Martyrdom Patronage Armenia; bookbinders; butchers; Florentine cheese and salt merchants; Gambatesa, Italy; Catbalogan, Samar; Magalang, Pampanga; Malabon, Metro Manila; Nagcarlan, Laguna; San Leonardo, Nueva Ecija, Philippines; Għargħur, Malta; leather workers; neurological diseases; skin diseases; dermatology; plasterers; shoemakers; curriers; tanners; trappers; twitching; whiteners; Los Cerricos (Spain) According to the Synaxarium of the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria, Bartholomew's martyrdom is commemorated on the first day of the Coptic calendar (i.e., the first day of the month of Thout), which currently falls on September 11 (corresponding to August 29 in the Julian calendar). Eastern Christianity honours him on June 11 and the Catholic Church honours him on August 24. The Church of England and other Anglican churches also honour him on August 24.[4] The Armenian Apostolic Church honours Saint Bartholomew along with Saint Thaddeus as its patron saints. Bartholomew is English for Bar Talmai (Greek: Βαρθολομαῖος, transliterated Bartholomaios in Greek) comes from the Aramaic: בר-תולמי bar-Tolmay native to Hebrew "son of Talmai", or farmer, "son of the furrows".[5] Bartholomew is listed among the Twelve Apostles of Jesus in the three synoptic gospels: Matthew,[10:1-4] Mark,[3:13-19] and Luke,[6:12-16] and also appears as one of the witnesses of the Ascension;[Acts 1:4, 12, 13] on each occasion, however, he is named in the company of Philip. He is not mentioned by the name "Bartholomew" in the Gospel of John, nor are there any early acta,[a] the earliest being written by a pseudepigraphical writer, Pseudo-Abdias, who assumed the identity of Abdias of Babylon and to whom is attributed the Saint-Thierry (Reims, Bibl. mun., ms 142) and Pseudo-Abdias manuscripts.[6][7] In art Bartholomew is most commonly depicted with a beard and curly hair at the time of his martyrdom. According to legends he was skinned alive and beheaded so is often depicted holding his flayed skin or the curved flensing knife with which he was skinned.[8]
Feast of Saint Bartholomew, Apostle Lectionary: 629 Reading 1 RV 21:9B-14 The angel spoke to me, saying, “Come here. I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” He took me in spirit to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. It gleamed with the splendor of God. Its radiance was like that of a precious stone, like jasper, clear as crystal. It had a massive, high wall, with twelve gates where twelve angels were stationed and on which names were inscribed, the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel. There were three gates facing east, three north, three south, and three west. The wall of the city had twelve courses of stones as its foundation, on which were inscribed the twelve names of the twelve Apostles of the Lamb. Responsorial Psalm PS 145:10-11, 12-13, 17-18 R. (12) Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your Kingdom. Let all your works give you thanks, O LORD, and let your faithful ones bless you. Let them discourse of the glory of your Kingdom and speak of your might. R. Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your Kingdom. Making known to men your might and the glorious splendor of your Kingdom. Your Kingdom is a Kingdom for all ages, and your dominion endures through all generations. R. Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your Kingdom. The LORD is just in all his ways and holy in all his works. The LORD is near to all who call upon him, to all who call upon him in truth. R. Your friends make known, O Lord, the glorious splendor of your Kingdom. Alleluia JN 1:49B R. Alleluia, alleluia. Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel. R. Alleluia, alleluia. Gospel JN 1:45-51 Philip found Nathanael and told him, “We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law, and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.” But Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come from Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.” Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him, “Here is a true child of Israel. There is no duplicity in him.” Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.” Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Do you believe because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree? You will see greater things than this.” And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”
Dr Taylor Marshall Dear Dr Marshall I am happy to see the Angelus on the list, I have inviting people to do this for some time, perhaps you could do a vid on this also guardian angel prayer. I started doing the little office to our lady for my brown scapular promise, even though I can offer the prayers prescribed by the priest, this is a beautiful way to honor our lady. Prayers before and after meals I would hope we all do but just in case,
@Apostolic Nuncio to Kekistan If you read about St Pius the X, you will learn more about it. He is known as the Pope who fought Modernism successfully enough that it stayed largely underground until the 1950s, when rogue theologians like Teilhard de Chardin reared their ugly heads. Best pope ever, IMO. ~ Lisa
@@abbiekenyon5299 actually more of scripture is read at an individual Traditional Latin Mass than the Novus Ordo. The new Mass removed both the Prayers at the Foot of the altar (Psalm 42) and the Lavabo scripture verses (Psalm 25) as well as the Offertory verse, taken usually from a Scripture text. The Novus Ordo has more scripture read over the course of 6 years with its 3/2 years cycle, but this is completely lost to the awareness of the faithful simply because human nature measures by days, months, years, etc. How can we possibly acclimate to Year 2, C for example, which comes around every 6 years?
1. Praying for the dead always 2. Gregorian Masses 3. Visiting cemeteries during November and praying for the repose of the souls of the faithful departed. 4. Truly Catholic hospitals and schools run by nuns.
Let the priests return to the hospitals. I remember there used to be a priest in the hospital all the time: newborns were baptized no later than a day or two after their birth, and patients could receive the sacraments.
This past Sunday I was trying to watch a Latin Mass online and there was a troll trying to upset people - making negative comments denigrating Traditional Catholics. One of the ladies went to report this person but said she could not because they were an employee of RU-vid. I couldn't report it because I didn't think to take a screen shot and moments after the woman exposed the RU-vid employee the video went down. I just found it so weird that supposedly RU-vid employees are so busy they can never answer emails or do anything else related to customer service but here was an employee taking the time to troll a small Mass where there were perhaps 20 people watching. I am not a Catholic - yet. I am in the process of trying to find an unconverged Church - what seems to be an impossible task in Canada. I only mention this story because I had never realized how much discrimination and outright hostility is expressed against the Traditional Catholic religion.
You may want to look for the nearest FSSP chaplaincy. They are in a number of dioceses in Canada. Also, search Una Voce Canada and you will discover the closest TLM to your location.
We are blessed in the Arlington Diocese of Northern VA to have several churches with altar rails and many say the St Michael prayer after Mass, and the laity usually pray a rosary before or after Mass. The ones that don’t make me sad. For the first time in my life, I parish-shop based on that. Also, the Latin Mass and ad orientium are becoming more and more popular and priests are starting to say them more!
This was a very insightful and perfect video. Hopefully many Bishops will see this and the Holy Spirit will guide them back to this Raw and Truthful way of life, to guide Souls back into the One Truth Faith Of OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST and HIS Bride The Church. 🙏🏻
Yes we loved going back to church in the evening for Benediction as children.. it was exciting lit candles beautifully dressed altar , the monstrance, .. wonderful practice
1. The revival of the Archconfraternities, Confraternities, Sodalities, and other Pious Unions. 2. Sermons outside of Mass. I remember reading these were popular on Saturday evenings. 3. Toties Quoties. This was a huge part of Catholic devotional life up until VII. 4. The bishop approving and certifying each catechist before being sent out to teach. 5. Masses at side altars. 6. Restoration of the additional collects and commemorations in the Mass. 7. Restoration of all of the octaves.
At my Church we have 2 side altars. I came to Mass one day and all 3 altars were being used for Mass as our Priests were taking the Altar Boys on a field trip that day! It was beautiful!
@@paola9414 Yes! When my mother wanted to teach catechism in the 60s, she had to go through Archdiocsean training and receive approbation from the archbishop, a certificate from him, and enrollment in the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. Oh, how we need that now!
We need to go back to Sunday is a special day for our Lord, you are so right, we need to make a joyful noise to the Lord! I remember when Good Friday was a day of worship even in Protestant Churches! From nine in the morning until three in the afternoon! Sometimes until six in the evening!
All these sound wonderful. As an Italian guy street festivals in honor of saints are part of the yearly calendar. Many of these saints are invoked against plagues(St Rocco,St Rose of Viterbo.)
Dr. Taylor Marshall, as of last week i just started to go the latin mass. The priest actually spoke directly, clearly and with meaning! I plan to stick with it and have no plans of going back to the novus ordos. This is due to your work on RU-vid and your book. Thank you for what you do and keep up the good work!!!!
Ditto on the restoration of the St Michael prayer--but all the Leonine prayers: 3 Hail Marys, Salve Regina & St Michael prayer, 3x Most Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on us! To protect & purify the Church!!
do not pray divine mercy, it is not at all traditional. There is a reason it was put on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum (Index of Prohibited Books) by Pope Pius XII.
Also would like to see brought back the Catholic neighborhood and/or small towns, with local parish as community center, and local Catholic businesses within walking distance.
@CodingCrusader1095 Yeah there are. Check St. Marys, KS and nearby Maple Hill, KS, both with trad parishes, large families, etc. It's a matter of willing to make it happen.
@@melaniebruno4632 The Church always provided the Sacrament of Confession during Holy Mass for the faithful up until the Council. It is a practice that desperately needs to be restored.
I like the Angelus prayer. The Angelus is incredibly powerful and said to drive out demons from the entire geographic are where the prayer is said. Where the Angelus bells are rung, all curse charms and incantations are destroyed within the sound of the bells. I say the Angelus in Latin for extra effect. You misspelled "Verger."
When I was young way back 1990's the FM Station in Philippines stop the music and pray the Angelus every 6pm. Even on Philippine TV there is a 3 o'clock prayer.
Restore Devotions to Our Lady of Perpetual Help. I used to go every Tuesday at 730pm with my Dear Grandmother, at St John The Baptist Roman Catholic Church, St Louis, Mo. Beautiful Devotions.
Dr Marshall, please check out the devotion to the Holy Face in reparation for the breaking of the first three commandments, the punishment being the scourge of communism...and this was in 1846. The Dallas Carmelite nuns host this devotion every first Sunday.
Please bring back the beautiful hymn Laudatum Dominum (psalm 114) which used to be sung at the end of Benediction when the Blessed Sacrament was being reposed. It calls on all Nations to come and praise God, a prayer which is v. necessary today as the One World Order strives to replace Nationhood.
The only time I ever see an outdoor procession in my City is one parish has a Palm Sunday procession from the inside of the church to the parking lot 50 ft. away so the parishioners can get distributed palms & straight back inside the church. They stopped all the old Italian Fiesta parades which carried Mary & Saint Peter through the streets every July because city council decided it offended some people. Woe to those who stop honoring the Queen of saints.
@J. Lewis I'm hoping that Our Lady Mary's about to set things straight here this November. Something big is coming. Because of the way it's been for the last 50+ years. I'm stayin vigalant & sober. Daily rosary she asked & daily rosary she shall get. God Bless you. Hang in there.
Yes. Fast from midnight when receiving Holy Communion and don’t eat anything for at least an hour after communion. Bless yourself when passing a Church and bless yourself when passing a graveyard and say ‘ May the Lord have mercy on the dead and may they rest in peace. Amen If you meet a Priest and an angel on the road 😃 you greet the priest first as he can provide you with the sacraments necessary for salvation. The angle cannot
Wow. I still do both those things! ALWAYS make the sign of the cross when passing a Catholic Church and say a prayer for the dead when passing a graveyard. 👍I agree that more people should be taught to do that. 🙏🏻✝️
that’s so Irish! When I was young, living here in NY, my mother from Tullamore would say, “Ah Dianne, y’need’nt bless yourself at Protestant Churches.” I’d think, “😣 I’ll never get thing thing right.” 😂
Good morning Dr. Taylor.. Sadly, here in the Philippines, there are few churches who have traditional Latin mass. Almost all priests say the N. O masses.. I pray that all priests will go back to the old tradition..
I studied with the Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and we had Holy Communion every day outside of Mass. It was a must for all the girls coming to school earlier to receive Communion. It’s powerful.
When I was young (and I'm talking about the 1950s) we had a Perpetual Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Succour. It was held every Tuesday evening and was very well attended.
I lived through so far all these customs. My Grandmother told me how the Priest would give penance to be carried out at Mass in front of the congregation. I wore a hat every time I walked into Church. I did the midnight Fast. We we're sad when our church was taken away. May God Bless and Keep you Taylor🔥🙏🏻🖱
Very informative video. I was confirmed at 7 back in the 1950s. I certainly knew what it was about as we were well catechised and still remember it as a wonderful Holy Spirit-filled day.
Sing the Salve Regina at the end of mass near Our Lady's Statue, child discipline ( no distractions from the Mass), remaining in prayer after Mass. Dr Marshall, we drive an hour and have recently started attending the TLM, your book was the impetus for this and has led me to reading Trent, St Robert Bellarmine. The FSSP is a God send and answered prayer. Hit em back first,,, God bless you.
🙋♀️DR. MARSHALL.... Thank you soooo much for teaching me to pray in Latin!!☺️ I now am able to say WITH EASE, the ‘Hail Mary’ AND the ‘Gloria Patri’ in Latin!! I’m now working on the ‘Our Father.’ I LOVE your channel & share as much as I can! You have taught so much to me & my sister (who is now a big fan also) We are now actively looking for a TLM in this area & even if I have to drive over an hour... I prefer it to the NO. Again, THANK YOU...THANK YOU! 🙏🏻✝️🙏🏻 🛐
I remember hearing a homily from a priest about this and I definitely agree. We should bring back the custom of fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays. Everyone in the early church did that and it’s a very late abandonment in the west. In many of the Eastern churches there still is fasting on Wednesdays and Fridays year round.
I was a child during that time and remember no water or food before Mass. One day, the nun took me out of church because she said I would faint. I did feel slightly dizzy.
Thank you for a very constructive show. All these practices and institutions were little links to heaven, some I only heard of because they passed from the scene before I was born.
So true Taylor that was my time from 7 years old I fasted from 10 oc the night before Holy Communion. The best clothes were brought out ..shoes cleaned the day before by our Dad every Sunday was like Christmas day . We were not allowed to read the bible only prayer book . I miss those days there was leadership I needed that priest were treated like God's those were the days ..❤
The devotion to the Holy Face of Jesus is an excellent devotion of reparation. It will call down the abundant mercy of God. “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” 2 Chronicles 7:14
Tenebrae during Lent. Easter baskets blessed on Easter Sunday. (Byzantine Catholics and many different ethnic groups like Polish and Ukrainian peoples have their own versions) Candlemas St. Blaise blessing of throats
In the Philippines, mostly in rural villages, the tradition of procession the town's patron saints and images of the Blessed Virgin Mary is still done, usually during the town's fiesta eve. We still have the tradition of penance, even in the cities, of few men beating themselves in the streets on the morning of Good Friday (Lent). Also when there are calamities or drought, we hold nightly procession (while praying the rosary) with the image/s of Our Mother of Perpetual Help or Our Lady of Fatima. At the start of Covid19 (March/April), there were processions of images of patron saints, The Blessed Virgin Mary, the Sto. Nino de Cebu, in most parts of the country, until the authorities stopped them in compliance with Covid control regulations. These are the traditions I hold dear in my heart and I wish these could also be done here in States. And may I add, we also pray the Oratio Imperata at the end of the mass when there are calamities. Why can't the US bishops mandate we pray Oratio Imperata to end Covid and bring us back to Normal, not the New Normal.
Going to Adoration once a week, Latin Vespers on Sunday and Rosary once a week. Benediction, The Devine Mercy Prayer Daily, Starting and Praying Novennas. Glad to say we have some Great Parishes in my Diocese of the UK. I can attend Latin Mass and Go to Many Traditional Catholic Churches. A local Church has just got last year a great Icon of the English Martyrs. We have a great Pilgrimage Site Ladyewell an ancient Baptismal site of the Early Christians Church and House that is Home to a Secret Altar from the times of the Persections of Catholics (Engish Refomation). It was a site of Secret Masses in the Time of Catholic Persecutions. Nice to go to Mass in the Houses Chapel in the Upstairs Rooms just like in the Reformation
Wait what do you mean the whole rosary i thought it was 5 decades plus the litany and what other prayers which i don't know all the name of because my prayers are usually done in Spanish for most part
@@ulti8106 St. Louis de Montfort called the 5 decade rosary, which is what most people pray today, the children's rosary. The whole rosary is praying the joyful, luminous, sorrowful, and glorious mysteries in one day. Saints like Mother Teresa, St. Alphonsus Liguori, Padre Pio, St. Francis de Sales, and many others did this. Back then when someone said "pray the rosary" this is what they meant. You don't have to say the opening and closing prayers each time. You only need to say them one time. Hope this helps!
@@MsLaurieperez oh wow i didn't know this i like this i like this a lot i need to maximize my prayer and time that i have free to God and for God thank you
@@MsLaurieperez I don't think that any of those saints prayed the Luminous, since I believe they were added by Pope JPII in 2002. I could be wrong, but I agree the 15 decade is good to pray every day. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Those old pipe organs cost a fortune to restore. Have you seen the videos on YT by Diane Bish? She is a famous organist who made a series of videos about the great organs of Europe and of North America (Joy of Music). She (or her fans) also have uploaded her concerts.
@@here_we_go_again2571 I watch Diane Bish all the time on EWTN when they air her old segments. Our church where I grew up had some type of organ in the choir loft back in the 1960's that wasn't a huge monstrosity of a thing like the one's she plays but it was smaller and had less pipes. I'm sure the maintainence cost wasn't as high as you think. I've been in bands for some time now & know instruments pretty well.
Great info! I was unaware that toothpaste consumption would break a fast. This is good to know! I consume several tubes daily but only Crest because Colgate is ran by pagans. I know this because I attended a conference of theirs in Philadelphia. Let me tell you that those SOBs need an exorcist STAT. Pretty sure they had the idol of pachymama in the back room. Really glad our lefebvre jr. (Taylor) got that kid to chuck it into that river. I’m sure the kid got compensated for his heroism. Anyway, I’ll stay away from morning toothpaste consumption. Bless your kind soul.
Great unused practices - the procession around the neighborhood is one of the most visible signs that I miss. All the others are such wonderful personal spiritual enrichments that have been truly forgotten. Is their an old book with all these observances with the prayers included?
Shawn- could I ask where you got the Bible from? I’m also looking to get a Douay-Rheims but not sure if there is only one or different ones? (Like translated or changed in some manner)
The thing with baptizing babies soon after birth- it is so hard with all the requirements to retake the baptism class, and I have always found it so hard to find godparents. My whole family is Protestant and my husband and all his family is Protestant. It would be nice if they didn’t require us to take the class over and over. We had a hard time taking the class because we have other kids and couldn’t bring them to the class.
I am Orthodox no changes needed for me. I have been to many churches even the ones that make everyone speak in tongues and lay on the ground. Please preserve the traditional church.
Yes people dress up for Mass (if you can), don't let the King find you without your wedding garments! Dress clothes & materials these days are more comfortable than they've ever been in the past, I can speak at least for men in this case.
Please pray for more TLM masses in Monterrey Mexico. The only parish that offers it only celebrates once a month in Sunday. I know if there were more parishes more people will attend
Now they require you to attend a Baptism preparation class, which is offered once a month, and then they schedule the Baptisms every 3 months in a group during a regular Sunday Mass. (I am 58, my godparents picked me up a week after I was born and took me to the church. The priest Baptised me with no other people there. My mom was still recovering and my dad was taking care of my 1 year old brother. My mom said this is how she always saw it done. No fanfare, no party, no fuss, just what you did.)
