join me on my journey to meet the legendary Apo Whang-Od, a 107-year-old tattoo artist in the Philippines. After trekking deep into the mountains and staying for two nights, I had the opportunity to get a tattoo from one of the last traditional Kalinga tattoo artists.
The experience was truly unforgettable as we went back to basics and immersed ourselves in the beautiful surroundings of the Philippines. Apo Whang-Od's skill and precision with her art form are truly remarkable, and her dedication to preserving her cultural heritage is an inspiration to all.
Not only was this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet a true legend, but it was also a chance to witness history in the making. Apo Whang-Od was recently featured in Vogue Magazine in April 2023, showcasing her incredible talent and the impact she has had on the world. It was a unreal experience to get a tattoo from the 107 year old legend

Lay is indeed down to earth and a great woman. I haven't followed Tom's channel for long. But I can happily say I found just such a simple lovely Filipina myself. Same age as me, not shallow, doesn't even want my money, cares about me alot, she just saw my mom in a videocall a few days ago and she got shy and then said "Hi mom!" 😂 Once you find true love you just notice it. And you go anywhere, no matter how far to find it. Im traveling to Flora to see her in a few months actually. After almost 3 years of chatting. Having had asian gf's before helps. Being a gentleman helps even more. Anyway. It's fun watching Tom and Lay. I get alot of inspiration for my trip.

Just did this trip in Feb, I made sure to be the first to the van so I could get the front seat . Such a long drive for sure. I think the next time I go I’m going to rent a vehicle so I can do the trip at my own pace and actually enjoy all the places along the way. Definitely an experience of a lifetime to meet Apo Whang Od . When I saw you drink that water I almost died laughing 😂😂 that water runs through the village and it’s so nasty 😂. Hopefully you don’t get sick .

I was there a few years ago. hopefully hygiene has improved. Wang od did not change the ink where the needle is dipped, the ink was contaminated with blood from different people. As well she did not change the face cloth used to wipe off the blood from many users... big risk for contamination of blood borne pathogens . HepB Hep C and HIV is big in the phil . Use at your own risk.

14:25 Oh god that almost gives me PTSD from a night boatride in Thailand. I think there were 40 passengers and we all had to sleep just like that in the bottom of boat below deck. I woke up during the night, drenched in sweat, with some girl having her legs over me and the guy next to me had shifted so much that my nose was like an inch from touching his armpit. Worst sleep ever Loved the video, my friend. What a beautiful place you visited =)

Some people choose not to get the tattoo due to employment, in the group we went with it had a couple that were becoming police officers so they were not allowed to get the tattoo. They did however get her to just put 3 dots in charcoal on them so they could get the pic and not effect their future plans.
