In this episode of our Regency Renovation project we move on to restoring the features of the exterior. Watch Rob from RW Plastering show you how to apply traditional lime render to the exterior of the building and then skillfully mark in the ashlar lines to restore the outside to its former glory.
For full technical information on mixes and ratios used, check out Ty Mawr's online PDF document here: drive.google.com/file/d/1V9ED...

Recent sub, this is just fantastic. So much damage has been done to our wonderful housing stock in the UK by the incorrect use of cementitious rendering systems, it's just so exciting to see it all being done with such care and consideration. 👍👍👍👍👍

Excellent job guys, love that you cut the piece off that board with the big piece between the blade and the guide, soo many people cut with the small piece between the blade and the guide, then the saw throws the small piece at themselves lol, you guys are masters at everything!

What a fascinating introduction to what is obviously a hugely skilled job.These plaster artisans skip along with the job producing a wonderful coat to enshrine this beautiful home.The skill and knowledge all being quietly and stoically applied throughout their working day to produce a truly magnificent home.Each stage is a wonder in itself. Once again .a quality job from quality builders.

Fantastic job. Love a bit of like render. Naturally breathable walls. Was the scaffold put up with the rendering in mind?
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 3 года назад
Hi Zed Man, Yes it was. We knew that a large section of the wall was blown, so some remedial work was needed. Unfortunately, when we started to remove the area, the rest came off with it! Ultimately it will make for a better job, which will protect the house for many years to come. Thanks for watching. All the best, John 😊

What do you use internally to insulated a lime mortar construction wall
@leafside

Thank you so much for the video! I’m renovating an old stone and lime walls and really really want to do it the right way and honour the fantastic building techniques of those times…. My house has been sitting without a roof for 12y and the walls are in such amazing shape, it’s amazing. Builders want to use cement… But I know that’s a huge no no for stone walls and want to do it the right way but really don’t know anything about it so trying to gather as much info as I can…. Builders tell me if I just use lime and sand that it will be too soft? Both for interior and exterior? Can you help me with any into on that? Cheers!
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE Год назад
Definitely lime them look online and you will be able to find a traditional lime plaster just do your research also it is a lot more expensive than cement about 4times but worth every Penny

Beautiful! Seriously nice finish that! 👍 You gonna lime wash it white next then?
@BuildWithAE
@BuildWithAE 3 года назад
Hi Edward Church, The wall will be painted with a specialist mineral based paint, which is fully breathable and perfect for this application. Lime wash has a lifespan of around 5 years, whereas the paint we will be using has a lifespan of around 15 years. There will be a video fully explaining both the paint and the process, in the future; so keep your eyes peeled for that. Thanks for watching. All the best, John 😊

@@BuildWithAE Great video. Watched with interest as we need to re-render our Georgian townhouse in the next year or two. With regard to the painted finish I had been considering a Lime wash or mineral based paint as you mention, I wondered if the mineral paint would give to "even" a colour for the stone effect, and whether the lime wash (albeit with its shorter lifespan) would give a better "Stone Effect" with its slightly uneven wash finish? Interested if you have any thoughts, or if it is just down to personal taste?

How come they haven't used hessian to keep the render damp ?
@Pavlo_S.V.
@Pavlo_S.V. 9 месяцев назад
Hello wanted to ask, in your opinion is possible to use cement (for better setting) with hydrated lime and sand (0,5:1:5 ratio) for rendering a brick wall layed with lime mortar, as it is quite difficult to find hydraulic lime in our region? Or even small amounts of cement will trap moisture, make wall unbreathable and ruin the bricks? Kind regards
@kookia213
@kookia213 11 месяцев назад
It looks amazing. May I ask how much time you waited between coats?. Also, the final "decorative element" you did, these lines, did you do that when the lime was dry? or wet? (or semi dry?). Thank you
@darrenkemp8554
@darrenkemp8554 5 месяцев назад
Good question, lime render is meant to be kept damp for around a week.

@madgebishop5409

guessing they have to come back after the scaffolding is down as those big hooks (08:47) are anchored to the poles which will leave a hole in the render, unless they are left in place?
