It took me over half a year to figure out the correct muscle usage in practice. Ironically, there is still no systematic way to teach this shooting style in China till today (plenty about shorter draw length styles since they need less practice to be accurate), not even in my club which is considered to be one of the best clubs in teaching Chinese traditional archery. It really surprises me how efficient your interpretation is. Absolutely awesome! Now I only wish my fellows can watch this video on RU-vid...

Man I really wished this school was closer or that there where more schools similar to this. I've been really interested in learning things like Swordmanship and Archery because I wanted to get in touch with my roots and Chinese military history fascinates me. We have schools that teach European style archery and swords but nothing Chinese. It would be something fascinating to learn and preserve.

Look up "The Way of Archery." The authors of this book have a Chinese archery class in GA every year. It eill be this coming October. They specialize in Ming dynasty military archery, which has a lot of similarities including long draw and how to use the bow shoulder and back to reach full draw.

Respected powerful spiritual and scientific knowledge from our ancient ancestors. I like to long anchor point beyond the ear and full drawback of the bow string, and fixed position of the bow riser hand. And detailed understanding of the the different stages of drawing the Bow and its affect on the anatomy of the human body, muscles, joints, geometric alignments, and brain waves. Many elements reflect the modern archery knowledge and understanding we use today. Most superb excellent video. Thank you for sharing with the world.

The bow hand and string hand seem to mimic each other at release, they both are in eagle claw, is this a symmetry and a natural balance, seems to me coincidence is a case of not looking hard enough , what's your thought , enjoy your video very much I bought a yahra manchu bow because of videos by Malta archery and your videos , and love this style , as the anchor is beyond a fixed point I have to trust the bullseye more , and tend to be in it more , and with a deeper arrow

if you point the bow towards and a bit outwards at your mark its called a magical thing called Khatra thats actually real ! it makes the velocity of the arrow much greater and also more powerful!

@Jiyukan
@Jiyukan 8 лет назад
Most asian shooting techniques shoot the arrow from the right side of the bow.
@lethanhminh8001
@lethanhminh8001 8 лет назад
with the thumb draw you suppose to shoot from the right side
@bulllea
@bulllea 7 лет назад
it is true that some modern day mongolian archers use that . but this ... is plain stupid . watch a right hand archer . if he use mediterranean draw ... the string will go forward and to the left ... this is the reason for the arrow being put to the left of the bow ... to help the paradox , not to work against it . if he use thumb draw ... the string will go forward and to the right . this is the reason for the arrow being put to the RIGHT side of the bow in asian style of shooting . there also some advance knowledge in the asian style of shooting that require the arrow being placed to the right side of the bow . this is not the place to debate that . do you ever saw a modern day mongolian shooting thumb draw with the arrow on the left side of the bow while riding a horse ? NO ! why ? "advanced" ! lol . you know why many of the modern day mongolians are the only asian style shooting archers that use protection on the left hand ? why ? "advanced" ! lol . the short answer is : No . you were supposed to shoot from the right side of the bow only , as a right hand archer .
@Fishhunter2014
@Fishhunter2014 7 лет назад
Bull Lea Honestly I was unsure when I commented on it. I tried the thumb draw the last time I went shooting, but I actually found it more difficult than the mediterranean draw. But then again maybe I was doing it wrong.
@Jiyukan
@Jiyukan 7 лет назад
This does not really sound plausible. The string always will go the side where the arrow is put, regardless how you draw. Having the arrow on the left side, gives you an minimal better way to aim though, as both eyes and the arrow are on the same side. If the arrow is put to the right side, one eye will follow the arrow and the other eye will look along the other side of the bow. I never had any difficulties to shoot from the right side with "mediterranean" release, though. (I' basically always shot from the right side, regardless of release)

Why the arrow is on the right side of the bow and not in the left side?. It must be more convenient for accuracy an stability to put the arrow on left side for a right handed operated bow. Is this due to the specific style depicted here?.
@dzikraaksa527
@dzikraaksa527 9 лет назад
putting arrow on right side removing archer paradox because the arrow launched in same direction of bow rotation during launch sequence. this will makes the arrow fly straighter than compared with left side arrow rest, in which the arrow will slightly veered upon release. thus, right side arrow rest is inheritantly more accurate
@eolymp
@eolymp 9 лет назад
But I understand that in that case the release is using a thumb ring?
@eolymp
@eolymp 9 лет назад
Golgo Onethree Yes, I see clear now in the vídeo that is using a thumb ring, hence is needed to put the arrow in the right side for a rh archer. Thanks for comment.
@TheJorge100
@TheJorge100 9 лет назад
Also in traditional combat situations archers rarely had time to aim so they needed to fire quick. Putting the arrow on the right side allows the archer to fire with one fluid motion while shooting on the left requires you to take multiple steps.
@heikoforbach2080
@heikoforbach2080 9 лет назад
Pab bem It is proved that the rotation of the bow is much to slow during the launch sequence to prevent the archers paradox. ( The arrow has almost left the bow when the rotation starts as some vids show)

Depending on tome of day they likely won't know where the arrows are coming from. And being able to shout "flight" (high curved trajectory) is an advantage, too.

This is the manner used in Manchu Archery, it can be found in many period illustrations. Manchu Bannermen employed this technique with the thumb ring went shooting heavy war bows.
