Roberto Gonzalez love it. This is the only pellet grill I’ve owned, so I can’t compare to other pellet grills, but I have been very happy with my Traeger. No complaints. Literally just finished a 21 hour brisket smoke. For me, the 575 is plenty of space. I recommend the shelf.

Man love my 575 pro. I just did big rack by ribs at 275F slow cooking, 275F for 2 hours directly on the grill and 2 hours in foil and this was like anything I’ve ever tasted. I used apple tree wood, man that was something extremely good.

I have had my 575 for about 2 years now and just love it. The grill grates he mentioned work fantastically well and you can use either side on them depending on what you are cooking or if you want the entire surface of the steak crusted as opposed to just the cross hatch grill marks. They also help to reduce flare ups nicely. It is so convenient and almost impossible to screw up a cook.

Got this grill as a gift for my 50th year on the planet. I've been playing the poor man's electric smoker with cheap wood chips on a hot iron and lava rock that doesn't have any temp guages. Still works great. But now I'm thrusted into the big time. I've already got the grill primed, and it's out on the patio sucking down the latest update for 4 hours. Thanks for the video man - this is a game changer.

I sincerely appreciate your honest and thoughtful review of this grill. I found your identification of the two types of person considering whether to purchase a Traeger grill, or not, MOST helpful. I believe I am like you, where the price of a Traeger grill is an investment, requiring considerable thought, before taking the plunge. I purchased a Masterbuilt smoker, rather large 40” model, and made smoked Turkey for Thanksgiving, for a couple of years. I put my Turkey in it this year and as soon as I set the temperature and time, it popped the GFS plug. I attempted 3 - 4 times then gave up and cooked it in my oven. Attempting to get ANY support from Masterbuilt was futile. Despite the smoker only being about 3 years old, I dropped it off at the landfill. I am hoping a Traeger grill can cook and smoke a Turkey, and produce lots of quality foods. One thing I saw on another reviewers page, for the Traeger 575 grill, listed as a shortcomings are the additional costs of items, such as the Grill shelve to attach to the front of the grill to hold your prepared food (your picture does not appear that you have this shelf - but I could be wrong), a Grill Cover (which most should have to protect this investment) or any utensil holder. As a side note, prior to listening to your review, I reviewed RU-vid clips on the Traeger page, and found some of the most detailed, and best produced videos of how to change various parts of each of their grills. I am not mechanically inclined, and don’t want to be, but I believe even I could change most components of a Traeger 575 grill WHEN, not IF, they need replacing. Thank you for producing such a great review. Your review has helped me make my decision. Kind Regards. Joe

Hi Steve; Robert from Backyard BBQ and Grill in Puerto Rico. first of all great video. The reason pellets grill doesn’t allows you to turn on the grill is for safety, sometimes the grill fire box could get clogged with pellets and create a big fire. Always is good to be present at that exact startup moment.

Great review, luckily all the cons will not affect me at all. So, having said that I can't praise Traeger's customer service enough. To cut a VERY long story short, after an issue with my Pro22, they replaced the fan, and after a couple of days, the grill went down again! This time they decided to replace the grill for NEW! , result!. But that's not the end, I asked if I could upgrade to the Pro 575 and pay the difference? Their reply was, Yes this could be done AT NO EXTRA COST! incredible service! At this moment, it's on its way, what more can I say!

EXCELLENT information, thank you. I do have a couple questions. You mention the 575 can now get to 500 degrees, is there a specific serial number to that 575 model? Second question and it will sound like I'm lazy...and I am...can the grill grate fit inside a dishwasher? I have a 14 year old and larger Traeger that I cut the grill grate in half so I could add it to the dishwasher. Because the grill grate was supported all the way around the inside rim it didn't lose support integrity. Thanks again for a great video.

As a recent 575 owner, couple other things not noted: Traeger's pellets are very meh for smoking. I've found that a few other brands work better for it. For additional smoke flavor, a smoke tube is 100% worth the investment. It made a significant difference. Keep an eye on how much in pellets you're using. There's a moderate amount of regular maintenance required due to having to empty out the pot. They say 20 hours, but this will depend on your outdoor temperature and how many pellets it has to chew through. Changing pellets or emptying when going a week plus between cooks is kind of a hassle for two reasons. First, the pellet chute is directly above the wheel meaning you have to awkwardly hold the bucket (I'm designing a 3D print to magnetically attach using a flexible duct to fix this). Second, the grate on the inside that's there to prevent pellets tunneling requires a long handled spoon or spatula to move pellets to the chute as it gets low, which you have to do while holding the bucket. Other than that, I do recommend the heat proof blanket and the shelf. I'm smoking in the Midwest winter in near or sub zero wind chill temps and it doesnt have huge temp swings.

Great video! I would also like the idea of the Traeger App updating to have the "history" with pics, location, outdoor temp and what type of meat and have a note section for it, kinda of like the Samsung health app when you do a run, it would track it all and you could add lots to the history of that run etc. The reason for the Traegers not starting up from the app is a large safety feature that we will probably never see. Great video, thanks for sharing.

Still running our old Traeger after 8+ years…zero issues except for fire pot needs replacement. We probably average 2-3 times per week, all day long on many of those days. You couldn’t pay me to go back to propane :) And luckily, nobody in our family is big on the searing thing so that helps. Also yes, love the old style controller.

Just bought one of these. I purchased another brand that you all would be familiar with, but it wasn't a Traeger. In about 13 months, I went through two controllers and two auger motors. After I complained and was on record doing so multiple times, the company gave me a complete refund, which in turn I purchased the Pro 575 (for about $300 more than the crap smoker before). So far, go good. You truly get what you pay for. For me, Traeger means peace of mind and no hassle to make it work, day in and day out. P.S...... if you want more smoke, use a smoker tube. Add pellets of your choice and blow torch to start. You can smoke for 5 hours with this one simple tube. Amazon sells them for $12.

I am a beginner smoker user. Just brought a treager 575. First cook of chicken breast was a disaster. Couldn't eat them they were so rubbery and took twice as long to get to internal temperature. Research suggested that the set temperature was to low dispite it being set at 225f. Measured the ambient temperature with external thermometer's and they read 50f lower than what the treager was showing. Have you had this issue. Found a video of someone that had the same issues and cut a can up and added a bit of a heat shield to the themocoupling. For the price you pay you really shouldnt have to do this. When “grilling” at higher temps and shorter cook times, I’ve found that the smoke flavor is minimal, but it does give the meat a smoke ring. When I used it at “smoking” temps, it still did not produce much smoke or smell which concerned me, but the end result turned out great. Overall, I’m glad I bought this, but will consider adding a smoke tube like everyone recommends.

Steve, John here. The cook went great last night! Went "plain" on the chicken, just hickory smoked at 175 for 50 minutes. Delicious outcome. Starting to get the hang of it. You are spot on is the lack of sear marks on the food. It made me doubt the chicken was done when the probe read 160F. You have to trust the probe. Holding off on buying another accessory (ie. Grill Grates for the time being). Regarding the Traeger app, how do you update to the firmware version released on 5/18/20 (02.01.02)? This enables you to have cook up to 500F, which might allow sear marks to appear or at give you a great chance for that to happen? Also, does anyone have the issue of not have their timer give an audible alarm with time expires?

Hi John, I'm having the same issue with not being able to upgrade to the version that unlocks 500 degree cooking. I need to phone Traeger and sort it out. I'll let you know how it goes. I have not used the alarm feature yet but I do know there is a setting to turn it on/off in the menu.

Update: Called Traeger today and they said to take the grill as close to your wifi source as possible and leave it on (not grilling but still on standby). It takes around 4-16 hours or longer if the wifi signal is weak to update. Let's see if it works!

Hey thanks for all your pellet grill videos. Very informative. Think I'm going to take the plunge. My current front runner is Grilla. They cost a tiny bit more than Traeger but they're a small company, manufactured in the US, and use better quality material and higher gauge steel than Traeger.

Dude I was on the fence on buy this because of the cost. Thanks to you I'm buying now, thanks a lot lol Looking forward to smoking my steaks and using my blackstone griddle to get that nice sear. I heard this model is an upgrade from the pervious one with in keeping heat in cold weather climates.

Nice. Yea I've heard its much improved over the older models. So far its been doing fine in cold weather. Starts up fine at -20 Celsius. We'll see if it starts when it gets down to -40 up here in canada

Great review. I don't know the product but does this put out more smoke at higher temps and less at lower temps or is it just a consistent smoke generator. Can you adjust the smoke or is it just more time to get more smoke on your meat?
@SmokeTrailsBBQ
@SmokeTrailsBBQ 3 года назад
It produces more smoke at lower temps and less at higher temps. The more time the meat is exposed to smoke while still below 140 degrees internal temp of the meat, the larger the smoke ring.

i am torn between this and the pit boss pro 850. i am leaning towards the pit boss for the direct sear feature looks pretty awesome. other than that they both seem quite similiar in all aspects. has any of you tried both? if so which would you choose?

Up to you but I think the traegers have less issues. The pitboss is huge value for money though.

One of the reasons why some pellegrill manufacturers don't let you start the smoker through Wi-Fi is cuz of a fire sometimes people have a cover on their grill and they might forget and if they start it up it could cause a fire so it's more of a liability thing.

Thankfully Rec Tec doesn't punish their customers from being able to actually use (turn on the grill remotely) the purpose of wifi because of a few idiots whom they will never prevent from being idiots. Imagine if GE smart oven in the house would let you remotely turn it on from the app for safety reasons....would there really be a need for the app? I would never own a wifi device that I cannot turn on via wifi.

@@waynespringer501 to start my treager you need to have the grill open to get the flames going and the smoke, its nothing to do with safety. It takes 5 min or so to get the smoke established then you close the lid and set the temp.

@@garroy7051 My neighbor never opens his lid on his traegar and it starts just fine, although as mentioned above he has to go outside and hit the ignite button and NOT able to do it from the phone app like you can on my Rec Tec.

@@waynespringer501 all I know is my instructions state to open the lid and wait 4 minutes till it starts to smoke then close the lid and set temp, maybe the pro 22 is different than the pro575 but thats how I start mine.

Traeger moved manufacturing to China which is a huge disappointment. It has showed with many customers complaining about material quality. Traeger are the founders of Pellet grills. Yes they have the "brand name". They offer bare bone packages with most smokers. Unless you're willing to fork over some heavy cash. You won't be getting much assessories. I did extensive research on the top pellet grills and found that Camp Chef offers the most for your money. Including quality, all Camp Chef smokers are made in the USA. I highly recommend this smoker to all of you watching. I've enjoyed great quality cooks with my Camp Chef smoker.

Nice. I am stationed in Germany and my friend here has the pro 34, how ever he has to use a transformer to use it. I was wanting one but was hesitant about getting on because I hat to use transformers to run my 110 v items. I did end up ordering the pro 575 through the store on base but it won’t get here for a month. No I can confirm that I wound have to use a transformer because when you opened up the hopper the electric specs was right there for me to see finally. So now just have to wait for it to arrive at the store on base

I know this is a couple years old, but is searing on this grill any better since it looks like they've updated to reach 500F? What about using a cast iron skillet with this grill for searing? I really don't want to have to keep another grill around just to sear steaks, but this seems pretty handy for everything else I might want to do with grilling/bbq.
@welovedji1116

Not for searing tbh, it does a very good job for low and slow. But if u want seraring look at Pit boss navigator 550/850. I got Traeger pro series 22, Traeger pro 575 (this one) and a pit boss 850 navigator. The pit boss 850 let u open the heat deflecter in the midlle to sear your steaks. And again is not like charcoal sear but u get an decent sear. Search up on youtube. I love them all man, my next smoker is the Louisiana Founders legacy 1200

About the same as any other pellet smoker - not that well. You could upgrade to the timberline, get a heat cover or put a welding blanket on it if you want better insulation.
