Tragic Death, Macabre Grave and More.
George Lewis has left a secure record of his name by his lurid gravestone which stands under a holly tree near the south porch. This shows his skeleton pointing to a bough cut from a tree.
There are two stories told about it. One that he made the elementary mistake of sitting on the bough and sawing it through between himself and the tree. And the other that he was sawing wood on a Sunday and was struck down by divine judgement for his Sabbath-breaking.

The small sculptures on the monument are depictions of the children born to the couple. The ones with the sculls are those who died as children/ infancy. Hope this helps. Love your channel. Greetings from a Danish fan.

Actually the sculptures with children walking behind are "funereal mementos". They are to remind people they will die to. It started way back when slaves would follow soldiers who came back from winning fierce battles telling them they will die to apparently so they wouldnt get huge egos. So now from the 13 century its common to see pics, sculptures and iron works of people being followed by someone carrying skulls.

Proper felt spooked . The round windows of the church tower looked like a face at the beginning . Stunning find of that beautiful ruin . Then back to being spooked as you zoomed in on crucifix. Was convinced two bright eyes behind it . Once you see can’t unsee it

I believe believe figures at 15:41 represent the children of the people buried in the tomb - those carrying a skull indicate that they died when they were young.

What a great church and a very interesting grave. As a teenager, I was visiting Canewdon Church in Essex, known for witches and other strange things. I was having a look around the grounds when I found in front of the side door of the church a giant white egg. I would say half the size of an ostrich egg. It gave me a very strange feeling at the time and still does today 30 years later.

i always find incredible that you can walk into an old church almost anywhere in the UK and see artwork and incredible carvings just laying there for nobody to look at. The hours that went into all those masonry pieces and nobody goes there . Its like walking the streets of London and looking up at the incredible stone work which is just ignored by people with their heads down heading for an appointment . it always make me think of the words of Eleanor Rigby

Whilst watching the beginning of your filming, the hairs on my arms stood up and i had a strange feeling come over me, just before you mentioned about the fleeting figure that you saw! When i was a young child, i grew up in an edwardian house near North end, Portsmouth and i saw different things happen in that house. Then from the age of thirteen, i would sense that something would happen and it did. Also, as i grew up into my early twenties i would dream about something that included me in the dream and most of the dreams came true. I haven't had any more dreams like this for a few years now. However, sometimes when i am speaking to someone i can start to tell someone whats going to happen to them. The women on my mother's side are also like this.

Each I discovered had a long since passed celebrity buried in the respective grave yards. One a famous poet and another I learnt was well known Sports Commentator of 50/60s. Two beautiful churches in amazing locations that locals would only know to well.
