Huge old cemetery here with a tragic past. After the church was burned down the land went back to the original owner. (The church didn’t own the land.) They were not allowed to build back there and the church was rebuilt up the street. Then the land with the cemetery was later sold to the rock quarry and access to the cemetery appears to be denied to this day. Glad to see this happening again. More graves need uncovered. You should leave the uncovering to the younger Robert. I also noticed that the younger Robert is more careful in revealing the names. I'm sure that brush erodes more of what is inscribed on those stones.
I'm wondering if any of the families (if there are any still living or around the area) are allowed to go in instead of "just anyone" being allowed access? It would be and awful shame if they didn't allow the families in to visit their own loved ones!! It could explain as to why these graves are in the shape that they're in (no one allowed in, graves can't legally be cleaned off properly). Just wondering about the reason(s) as to why no one has been there.
Under Georgia laws no descendent of those buried in a cemetery cannot be denied access to a graveyard. Owner of the land has to be notified upon visit. The cemetery also cannot be disturbed by land owners
If nobody complains than they're allowed to get away with this if I lived near there I'd be furious. This could be my son I'm mortified to think they are getting away with this !!
I have been through a huge ordeal with a family plot in GA. I am a GA resident as well, however I do knock, and ask if plans have been made, and if they are ok with me at the cemetery. I do believe one should be considerate as much as possible. If no one is home, I visit, look around the cemetery and leave a note on the door of me stopping by. The people are very nice who live there. I do know there is a "slave cemetery" on the other side within the cemetery lot. I have found all or most of the stones before. Going to look into seeing if there is a way for help to preserve the area. If you know of anything, any advice etc., would be appreciated. Thank you.
It's hard for me to accept that there are cemeteries it the woods neglected & rotting away. I ask myself (and everyone else should too) why as Americans do we allow this to happen? These are our founders & ancestors. We should appreciate them more than this.
Same and I am shocked as to how fast nature takes over when these cemeteries are neglected. I forget the video but he had one a while back with a long forgotten cemetery in the woods like this. Completely overgrown and it looked like no one had been here in 100 years and he uncovered a grave from the late 1990s. My jaw hit the floor.

@@annette4444 I'm sorry, my mom is still alive that's why it was eerie to hear her name on the gravestone. I guess I didn't make that clear but thank you
Bless that Viet Nam veteran gentleman's heart. We recognize and appreciate his service. 🙏🏻. What y'all are doing is SOOO important for history, and indeed humanity.
@@lornahardin4563 Didn't say it was but for none of the relatives to step-up and try to take control of this situation is, not two guys from a yt channel if there is really 200 people buried there that's a lot of relatives I just feel it's sad that it's in the shape it is.I'm not trying to show any disrespect by any means.I would love to see this place brought up to a nice peaceful resting place where the deceased relatives can visit comfortably and legally.
@@lornahardin4563 while watching this I felt the same way. We have a cemetery here in our town up here in Kentucky. A few years back something was done about it. I pass it the other day and it still being maintain but something is still missing like lack of personal care or something. I'm sure I have relatives over there in it. It's a African American cemetery too. It had grown over after years and years of neglect. It's clean off now. The city and volunteer labors got it straighten out. There was a lady I knew from the library that was listing some of the graves. I think it interesting to see and do this kind of work. Some of the funeral director here help on it as well.
Robert and Robert. God Bless both of you for doing this important and historic work. Regarding lost African American Graveyards and Cemeteries; one of the problems is that succeeding generations moved up north during the Great Migration of the 1950's looking for sustainable work; thereby abandoning these ancestral lands. In my family it's the same. I was born in NYC but both parents were born in rural North Carolina. I know where my Grand parents are buried on both sides of the family but not my Great Grand parents. My parents used to say they're buried "back in the woods"; of course I confess I don't have the courage that you two have to go into the woods "looking for lost Cemeteries". I appreciate everything you do!🙏👍❤❤
I've been looking for people in the area I used to live in. I'm doing it from a distance now. But I have documented black cemeteries. Right now I'm helping to identify who is buried in a black/mulatto cemetery that only has field stones as head stones. Been fortunate to dig through old documents to find people buried there. I did notice the movement of black people to bigger cities like Brooklyn, NY, DC, Philadelphia, and Detroit. NY is horrid to try to get death certificates so you can find them. This is a great thing that the Roberts are doing.
Do you have someone in the area that can map this cemetery with lidar? The college here did that with a couple of old cemeteries here for educational and historical purposes. Not as big as this cemetery of course.
That is just so wrong that families that have relatives buried there are not allowed to go there. Wrong!!!! Thank you Robert and Robert for bringing this cemetery to light. Those grave stones were cleared off back 9 years ago.
Case law in Georgia has been interpreted to mean that the heirs of those buried in a cemetery have an implied easement on the property. The easement gives the heirs the right to prevent disturbance to the graves and the right of ingress and egress for taking care of the burial plots.
It’s so wonderful to see “the other Robert” again. I feel like you’ve allowed these people to speak again. You’ve recognized their lives, their legacy and let them know they’re not forgotten. They do matter. You’re respect for these graves is heartwarming. Thank you.
What company owns this cemetery? Social media is powerful these days and we could at least try to pressure them to allow access. As a historic African American cemetery it needs to be preserved. It's great that someone did the huge great effort to document it on Find a Grave.
No. Don’t harass anyone. Is that what you would want for somebody to make a point to you? The historical society can be made aware of it and they would legally work on getting access in an amenable way. Public humiliation never works. That’s just being a bully. Don’t you know people kill themselves over what you suggest?
Great to see "the other Robert" again. I hope your actions and activities reach a historical preservation group, private or State. There is history and then there is the history behind the history.
It’s not a Sidestep adventure till “big” Robert belts out a “Grampa always said” quote! You are preservation of the past superheroes! I respect and admire what you do. Much gratitude for sharing with the rest of us.
In GA you cannot deny access to a cemetery. I have had a huge ordeal with my own family cemetery here in GA. People think they can block you, but they end up in trouble.
I really hope someone from the anthropology department at one of Georgia's universities or colleges watches these videos. It would be nice if they would go into the abandoned cemeteries and graveyards to document the burials. This is so sad to see.
➕🙏 Just this morning came across these videos on graveyards. Maybe you could write to the Anthropology dept. At one of Georgia University's or colleges as you had suggested for them to watch these videos, as i Believe you would know whom to contact as being your idea to Robert and Robert. Thank you for reading. God bless you in your research. Stay Safe in your travels wherever they may take you🙏 Regards, Sincerely, Susie Florida. 12:48pm Feb.28, Wed. 2024
Seeing so many children's graves hurts my heart for their families. Knowing that both the mother and the baby were at risk during and after the birth, not just for days or weeks, but for months. Many children didn't survive more than ten years. Adults had such a short lifespan as well. I am very glad that when I was born there were ambulances, paramedics, nurses and a doctor in my home town. I was born in a manager's cottage of a farm. It was on a dirt road at least a half hour journey by car from the hospital. If I was born in the time of horse and carriage it would have taken at least half a day. The first ambulance got lost in fog ( a pea souper) and the second ambulance had to be guided by our neighbour. I was born almost a month premature with the umbilical cord wrapped around my throat. Mum delivered me herself and said I was blue and she was worried about my breathing.
Its great to see The Other Robert!! A very sad, but amazing place. Huge place. How unaware most people are today. What total disregard of the corporation to not allow access. I was surprised to see so many markers and not creek rock. I wonder if any of the current generation of descendants even knows this graveyard exists? People forget too easily, especially without access. Enjoyed hearing what Sonny had to say. Coupled with Mr. Ben on Rough Edge, I think it would be a great to do a series of interviews with the residents of Waverly Hall and surrounding area. Just conversational, especially the elderly people - history and their lifes story. This was epic at over an hour long. Enjoyed it all, this one calls for several more viewings to catch all the details. Excellent, Robert and the Other Robert!! Appreciate you!! Thank you!!👍👍❣️❣️
Wouldn’t it be a true gift if the quarry owners gift this cemetery back to the church perhaps the local community could make representation to the owners? In all conscious they surely can’t mine the land and it would go along way to make amends for the past heartache the church has gone through ~ great seeing Team Roberts back together xxx
So happy to see both Roberts together again! So sad the history of the church burning down & the graveyard being abandoned. It's wonderful the work you are doing to document the graves & preserve the history. Love your videos ❤
Just thinking makes me wonder if that somebody just did purposely burn that church burnt down because of race this was on purpose seems to me I asked the done that for any other reason
I wish more people would ask these question of the elders of there family. So much history is lost because people won't asks these question. I looked 27 years for my Great Grandmothers grave. Last year we found it (well my sister spotted it). I cried because I was so happy to have been able to see it. It's a wonderful thing you both do, and it makes me smile to think someone might be able to see where there greats or Great Greats might be laying to rest because of you two. You make a great team. Those flowers are Iris.
So nice to see the two of you on an adventure again. Sad that so many families were denied access to that graveyard for so many years. Thank you both for your dedication and kindness in clearing some of the graves and reading their names. Thank you, Gentlemen
You should see if you can report this cemetery to someone like the historical society the Georgia governors office there has to be some way to preserve such a historical site for loved ones and the one buried there
How sad that a Quarry has denied access to a grave yard. They should be helping to preserve it instead of putting up obstacles . I always thought it would be nice if someone handy with tools would put together some crosses to mark these unmarked graves . Maybe use pallets to make simple white crosses .Great boy scout project. On the Mary stone I thought I read Born Aug. 1. Did not see the year. Good to see the 2 of you out together. Keep Safe ❤Keep Well ❤
This is a very sad story. I think that all grave yards and cemeteries should be preserved, mapped, and all found Graves marked. I am ashamed at how these bairial grounds have been disrespected over the years. I so appreciate your time and respect in showing these to us.
Robert this was a fabulous video. I can't wait for part 2. It was nice to see the other Robert. I had missed his famous " grandpa always said". I just have to say that you make great videos. Your content is great on both of your channels. I always look forward to your videos.
Where the tracks were widened I'm sure graves were disturbed as some of the others are right at the edge of the bank. So sad that this whole graveyard is hidden under years of growth.
This is Linda thanks for preserving our history and documenting before is lost to time so much rich history to ground us to who we are are roots you are wise beyond your years a gift from god and others like you you must tell us all about how you got started and people in your life like elder Robert they sooo complete you and enhance who you are what you are about it is so nice to know love always
This whole community is historic. That church burned during the civil rights demonstrations. So much history!😥😩Historians don’t care whose history, just that it’s history.
Thank you for finding this graveyard and showing the departed some respect. It is very sad to see how forgotten this place has become. Your work is so very important. Good to The Roberts together again!
Communities can make a stand in ways that maybe they couldn't before in terms of taking bsck land and important sites. I hope your video is the start of something important!
A true "labor of love" you 2 uncovering all those graves. So sad that counties or cities allow this to happen, life was probably rough for all those follks & then to have their graves forgotten is shameful! Looking forward to seeing more on this!
God bless you two! This is a sad story. People should be allowed to visit the graves of their families. What cold hearted people came up with these ordinances and laws? Are they trying to let these sites disappear? some fought for this country.
It’s always a pleasure to see you and Robert out making your discoveries in the woods of Georgia. This time I was deeply moved by the story of the church and grave yard. It’s sad the graves had to be abandoned and cut off from the current church and remaining loved ones.
I've enjoyed walking through history this morning. Thank you so much. At 1:07 you are admiring a Mahonia shrub, aka Oregon Grape. Blooms yellow in early spring and produces " grape like " purple berries in summer.
The Dynamic Duo strikes again! Dang! That place is huge! Thank you for bringing these folks back and for documenting the site. Can't wait for part 2! (I hope you fed Robert. He must be famished after all that work!
Sonny has such kind eyes. I wish I could hear more from him too. Thank you Robert's for all you do. You guys show so much respect, and care so much about those before us, and their stories. I, and other's appreciate you so much.
Absolutely fascinating. This may sound corny, but that little girl that died was long forgotten. But now she's not forgotten anymore because of you guys. There's something really positive about that.
Loved seeing the other Robert today, wearing his color coded grave uncovering ensemble. 🤗This is a huge graveyard. I think I only remember you two finding one other close to it’s size. Thank you for the work you do🐝🤗❤️
I love the work you guys do! What would be amazing would be to have a person do the genealogy look up for the individuals you discover to document their burial places so their future descendants can find them or know what happened to them.
Love seeing "two" Roberts. What a great find, thank you for cleaning the slabs so their names are seen. Wish you could clean every one. I cannot see how the quarry people can keep anyone from their families in this cemetery.
When I was in grade school on a field trip to an abandoned house where we made homemade candles. As I was crossing ground my leg slipped into a hole which was when I learned it was abandoned cemetery not far from house.I screamed my head off but didn't even think to pull leg back out, saved by someone smarty than me! That's where my fascination with cemeteries&graveyards w/churches began.Your explorations are doing bucket list for me,as health issues catching up with me fast. My husband&I were going to travel wherever road took us&map to photograph&write up info we learned. I have Dementia&Alzheimer's & won't leave house now except Dr. appts. Your videos&a few others are really saving us from alot of gas$,tics, poison ivy, spiders&snakes(aka heartattacks) and sunburn!👏💯🙏
Haven’t watched the entire video yet, but had to say great Job Boys👍. That first WW-2 granite Grave marker was pretty fancy. That soldier was involved in the War effort probably state side as He was born 1905’ and that’s old to be unlisted in WW-2. Unbelievable that there wasn’t some type of access marked walk/trail leading to this special place after the Church was burned down! Appears the church burned in the 1950s when there was ongoing strife. Somebody gobbled up the land during that time. There likely wasn’t any -willing Legal Represenatives during that time to step up and protect or represent the deceased and family’s relatives so 65 years later the Earth is reclaiming it!
I've seen cemeteries "owned" by others who would post "No Trespassing" signs. You'd have to check the law in the state you're in but that Quarry or anyone else can keep people out of a cemetery. It would be good for the community if people were allowed access to clean it up or if the company would clean it up and put a road in for people to access it. These are the places that people are looking to find their families.
Robert and Robert thank you so much for your hard work. I wonder if there is anyone in the area that knows the history of this place. Always listen to the stories of the elders. Maybe take some chalk to read some of those.
Long gone but now not forgotten thanks to our Roberts'. Thanku for this cemetery visit, I know our Roberts' are so busy, but I Iove these cemetery visits!!
You guys are awesome, I found the graves of my grandmother’s 3 babies that died and I thought that was hard in a functioning but old cemetery with records. You guys really found the forgotten. So sad. Heritage history matters!
Thank You for the social work you guys do. A true southerner loves his or her whole population and also understands its broken heart in the way things used to go around here. We look to the future not forgetting the past. Embracing ALL and loving our brothers and sisters better than our forefathers. Again thank you for leading the way.
Oh dear sweet Roberts you guys are just amazing they don't make um like you all we can't get enough may god watch over you and keep you safe we love you soooo much
This is an awesome video though it's sad to see the conditions of the graves. I applaud you Robert and Robert for uncovering some of them. It's a wonderful thing that you do on these missions of finding lost graves. God bless your efforts!🙏❤
Really enjoyed this extended visit/documentation of a graveyard that hopefully can be preserved/cared for in some manner. Thank you both for sharing, caring and posting.🤞🤞

The Roberts are back together again! Life is certainly good. You two are the best entertainment on RU-vid. Even better than Batman and Robin, Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin, Sherlock Holmes, and Doctor Watson. Possibly better than Tom and Jerry! Love you both!
Hi Robert and Robert. It's nice to see you both. This cemetery made for an interesting day for you. It's great you were able to get into to it. You both did a lot of work finding and cleaning those graves. It is appreciated.
That shrub you showed looks like a type of elaegnus. The berries it had reminded me of the hedging we had when I was growing up. Very sour but tasty all the same
Hi Robert and other robert nice to see you other robert I have missed you a nother great adventure abig burial area you found all the best 👍 👌 Andrew south wales uk
This is wonderful that you have found these people again. It is so important that we know they lived and are remembered. It is so sad that this graveyard was lost for so long. Thank You for finding it. Hi from New Brunswick, Canada
Thank you both for this adventure ! I can't believe that many graves could be forgotten. That's a lot of people. But I see that it's true. Wish I could get out and search for graves here in KY.
