that is really nice. the finish on the head of the tomahawk came out looking great. and your friend has some real talent with leather work.

You did very well on this hawk...I've seen many original hawks that came from the eastern states and many of them had your short handle ...Many had a hole drilled near the bottom of the handle.. You get a good leather thong for the hole and wrap it around your wrist.I believe it was used in fighting...Most of the handles were somewhat thinner..Anyways, they were a deadly weapon and a great tool on the frontier...

Very Cool Hawk. Those trail hawks look really sweet and frontier original when they're modded. I think the Tomahawk is making a comeback as a real and usable tool once more. Before the repeating rifle, Tomahawks, Bowies and muskets ruled the frontier.

You did a good job on the Trail Hawk. I have one and I left it the way it came. I have done some modifications on my Norse Hawk and my Spike Hawk. As you have said, the leather work is top notch. Subbed and thumbs up.

For wrapping the jute around the handle, look up 'Whipping the ends of a rope' as I feel sure that it would alleviate your problem with it coming undone. You might want to think about attaching the feathers and beads to the hawks sheath, that way you have the looks but there is no problem using the hawk since the beads and feathers would remain with the sheath.

Lol; I'm glad someone was actually able to make that thing useful. I bought that style a few years ago with the idea of using it as a light wood splitting wedge since it had the hammer on the back. Silly me thought that would make it multi purpose, but I found it to be useless at everything. It is certainly a lot lighter than my Wetterlings, but I think that is a bad thing. I replaced this hawk with a bowie knife. Funny enough, the bowie knife has more cutting and chopping power.

Brilliant mate! Love what you have done with the stain, the head and the sheaths are great, will be checking your mates FB page out for something for myself! The beads look good for aesthetic purposes but from a practical point of view I would agree with taking them off personally. Great job all round mate!

Unfortunately I am not sure how much he charges for wrist cuffs, you should send him a message. Yes I kept the screw in the head and I will try to get a video up at some point of me using the hawk, have been putting it through its paces over the past few days and gotta say its awesome! You should buy one dude, very versatile tool

You've done a nice job. Take a look at the 'voyager' pattern hatchet heads. They have a different eye, more like an axe, but they are authentic to the 19th century.

I love what you did with your hawk I plan to well copy you but with a twist the stain will be the same but under the head I will use green deer hide that will shrink and be rock solid hard and the handle is where you hold it I am going to use a sinew wrap sadly I don't know if you can get those things where you at they will look very similar

The beads will not offset the throwing. I make these tomahawks. And use them. their easy to make and the leather crafting is easy to. if you want one just contact me I could make one in a couple days. And most of the parts I gathered from the feathers to the sinew I use

Had a look at his FB page and I really like the look of the wrist cuff!, you wouldnt happen to know what he charges for them would you...roughly? Also, did you keep the hex screw in the head of the Hawk? I would be interested to see you using the hawk mate, I am intrigued by these things, but cant make up my mind whether to pull the trigger on buying one. All the best!

I like your mods, but the beads, twine wrap and that leather sleave has offset the balance for throwing. And you didnt remove the set screw and fill the hole. But it is a nice video.
@WanderingTheWild

Thanks, but this hawk is not intended for throwing

Did you know? In some Native tribes they got rewarded feathers for acts of bravery. :)

I'm amazed at how many of you by the cold steel china made piece of crap and modify it.. Try B&H forge they make you hawk to order. same price range. and no real hawk has a screw in the side to hold it in place. they were meant to take off the handle and use as a cutting tool also.
@brianmccann666
@brianmccann666 8 лет назад
We like modifying the tomahawk ourselves. Gives it a personal feel. Taiwan Steel not China Steel. lol. Cs hawks are workhorses. They last forever. As for H&B Forge. They are good, but not cheap priced. I bought three cs hawks for $20 each. Great price, for good project tomahawks...
@brianmccann666
@brianmccann666 7 лет назад
Oh, the Set Screw is to keep the head in place during shipping only. Take it out, throw it away ASAP.
@nathanconley2726
@nathanconley2726 5 лет назад
I've gotten Hawks from forge and i can assure you there's no tomahawk there for $20. Let people the fuck alone,he did a nice job and cold steel tomahawk heads after a little sharpening and some personality will go toe to toe with any hawk you can get.
