I'd be waiting for the Saucony Peregrine seen here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W5b9sbkcnj8.html .. or the Hoka Speedgoat 4 .. for now I'm just bopping along in some Torrents which are fine - I have no events for quite a while
Raced in my Salomon S/Lab Sense 7 SG's this morning for the first time. I typically train in my Salomon Sense Rides. I am liking this combo! Today was a 10k trail race. 5th OA, 1st in AG.
Because I live in northern Norway: In wet/muddy/the normal weather: SALOMON SLAB SPEED2 In dry/rocky/skyraces: SALOMON SENSE 7 (NOT SG) long distance 50k +: SALOMON SENSE MAX
You should check out the Mount Marathon Race in Seward Alaska if you are not familiar with it. It’s only 5K but it has extreme vertical. There are plenty of videos available of prior years’ races.
I actually love the new pegasus trail shoes. I usually use Salomon but wanted to try it. I live in Northern Norway so the trails and mountains are pretty demanding. But I love the cushion spesially on downhills. Salomon shoes are hard and also hard on my legs. I save quite alot from my legs with the confortable pegasus. And the GRIP is amazing! The only problem is river crossings and swamps. It takes quite long time for the shoe to try up and I'm guessing it's gets pretty heavy as well when wet. I'm racing a 37K this weekend and I'm thinking of running it with my pegasus shoes!
For anything 25km or up that isn’t too sloppy, Salming Trail 5’s. enough cushion and protection to keep the feet happy while still feeling light and balanced enough to feel fast on the feet!
Salomon sense pro 3, it’s $130 over $180 sense 7. Longer I like the sense ride. A friend bought a pair of Skechers for $40 very cushion to end with 6 mm lugs
Those puns! I wanted to touch on the Salomon S-Lab Ultra. I used them at RRR100, and I agree on the cushion. The upper had some flexibility issues as well. I wouldn't use them in another hundred, but that said I didn't have to change my shoes?
Nike Terra Kiger 5 will be my shoe of choice. Prepping for the Spartan North American Championship in West Virginia in August which will be 13mi+ with 3200ft+ elevation gain
QOD: I'm racing my first trail run, 30km tomorrow! I'm contemplating between Puregrit or Cascadia. I've not run the route before. Cascadia is super heavy but better grip while puregrit has better cushioning but less grip. Decision decision 🙈🙈 I'm going to bed now! Wish me luck! Love from Penang, Malaysia!
It was raining on that day! Cascadia ended as my disadvantage as it soaked up a lot of the rain and it got heavy 😔 didn't help that I rolled on my ankle halfway through but nothing serious. I tried going for a slow jog yesterday and the ankle hurts a little. Thinking if I should rest or continue to slow jog. Have another 32km road race next week 🙈 results of bad race planning.
I was there too. The rain didn’t help the slick mud. Regretted not using my s-lab sense 7 sg but after 25kms I was so glad I picked the s lab ultra. I did the 50k
Any issues with durability on the SG? I just bought a pair of the Sense 8 SG and was surprised how soft the lugs were when I received them. Went with SG for the bigger lug, but feels like it wouldn't take too many miles of rocky trails before the lugs either wear down or even rip off. Sort of wish they had the lugs from the sense pro, which I believe are big like the SG but firmer. Have a hard time justifying a $180 shoe if it won't last very long.
Yes, lug life expectancy is not ideal for SG. I use them for racing on muddy or gravel type trails, so I’m not racing very much on hard rocks. I think you’ll get at least 100 miles of hard racing out of them. Thanks for checking out the video.
Congratulations Seth , your videos are amazing, I enjoy all of them. I like your passion for trail running...¡¡ I would like you to make a video that compares the performance of all these shoes : Salomon snow cross 2 Goretex; Salomon S Lab X Alpine 2 Goretex; La Sportiva Aequilibrium Top GTX; Dynafit Sky Pro. Which of them is the lightest and which of them has better resistance to water ?
QOD: still using my hoka torrents for anything up to 50k. Feels fast, great grip and cushioned enough to go the distance, probly even a 50 miler for others but not for me. Planning on getting Salomon SLab Ultra 2 or Hoka Speedgoat 3 or Mafate 2 for runs or races 50k and up. Thoughts? How about the Altra Timp 1.5? Or should i wait for the SG4 or the Timp 2?
Came to this party a little late, but my $0.02... The midsoles of Salomon do not derive their utility from thickness (that is why Hoka One One was born). Rather, Salomon engineer in *protection and support* in place of that sometimes overly thick cushion. Admittedly I do not race. I would however point out that I have run in nearly every shoe brand out there since 1975. For trails, *and for my particular set of foot-based parameters*, Salomon have nailed it.
QoD - I’ll be running my August trail HM in the Terra Kiger 5s. My clown colorway version just came in yesterday actually. It was quite the hit with the kiddos! 😂 The fit is definitely locked down, but more generous than my Peg 35s or Odyssey Reacts. It does have a lower height toe box than some shoes though. I had considered the Hoka One One Torrent, too.
Hello Seth! I am a new subscriber to this channel and I’m digging it so far! I’m also from Colorado currently residing in Nederland, so running rocky, rooted, mountain trails is definitely up my alley. I just ordered the Nike Air Zoom Terra Kiger 5 as my new trail racing shoe based solely on reviews and the style which really spoke to me. Pretty expensive so I hope they work out! I had bad luck with a pair of Salomon Sense Ride 2 already this season. The sizing was off. Exchanged for a half size smaller. Ran in them twice. Sizing was still way too big. Now stuck with them trying to resell. Oh well. That’s the downside to the convenience of ordering online I suppose. I am also considering ordering a pair of Scarpa Neutrons as my new trail training shoes because they are only $69 on Backcountry atm and I am on a budget. Just wanted to drop a comment. I appreciate the videos. One question: what running socks do you wear? Do you have a preference? Thanks!
Hey Seth! I’m pretty new to running (like 3 months) and I’m just getting into trail running. The views (seeking beauty), the smells, the birdsong... I love it! I’ve just brought a pair of the innov-8 Roclite 275’s, and am really enjoying them. A much more trail experienced friend of mine has just followed suit! I’ve been quite inspired by your running vlog (thank you!)and my friends, so I’m going to have a go at the half marathon distance Crater Rim Ultra here in Christchurch NZ. Maybe next year I’ll stretch out to the full ultra, 52Ks...
I am doing my first trail race this fall. I have zero experience racing on trails and would love to see a Vlog from you giving your experiences and pacing strategies, just a basic how to run a trail race Vlog. The race I am entered in has 4300' of elevation over 25K and I have no idea how long this is going to take me to complete and am lost trying to figure out how to prepare etc. The 50K has over 8000' of elevation so I am leaving that one for another day :) Apparently the trail is very runnable and in great condition so my answer to the QOD is Nike Wildhorse 5. This is the inaugural year for the Tackle The Toad ultra race in beautiful Nelson, BC if anyone is interested.
QOD: Right now I'm loving the Pegasus 36 trail and the Kiger 5's. Both feel great although I tend to grab my 36's a little more often. SJD - What are your thoughts on how the two compare? I'm looking to run my first 100 trail within the next year or so and am planning on using these two shoes off and on during that race. Do you think that's a decent idea? Thanks
Currently running in the Altra Lone Peak 4, but thinking of trying out Topo Athletics Ultraventure soon or the Altra Timp. My local shoe store is doing a Hoka demo day today. I’m hoping to try some trail and road shoes there. They are supposed to have the entire line of shoes to try!!
The original Salomon ultra has been hands down my favorite all round trail shoe, took a bit over 1500km of punishment before they sadly starte& d falling apart. Performanced so well on every surface in the dry or wet, were great for climbing & gave me so much confidence bombing steep technical decents. Fit my foot perfectly, hugged the heel & never gain me a single blister.. Ive tried the 2nd edition but the fit didnt feel as snug with the wing removed, the 3rd edition is basically a completely different shoe which i dont like at all. Now im alternating between Hoka Speedgoat 4, Salomon Speedcross 5 & La Sportiva Bushido
@@mateosmereciuc1866 not sure if you ran exclusively on trails, but they deteriorate pretty quickly on concrete paths & roads. Still though 500km is about the standard lifespan I get out of trail running shoes, which isn't great considering the cost & the amount of k's some shoes to break in
QD: MY trail racer this year is the Salomon S Lab Sense SG for 10k-45km. My next race is 10k and i'm going for the Salomon Sonic-2's as the course is not technical.
Love the videos! Was inspired by your footage and went on my first trail run today! A lil 3.3mile trail near me. I was wondering if you would make a video about your preferred lace setup.
Did a 17k trailrun today. Using Brooks Cascadia 12 but want to buy 2 new pairs. @seth or other readers/viewers: wich options should I concidder for a bit wider feet? Salomon is to narrow. Most runs are in the woods or dunes. No mountains (but someday ...🤘) Thanks for sharing your tips!
I am on the Sense Ride 1's and think they're quite good up to 50km. Longer if it's not too technical. They don't quite have the comfort in the upper like the S/Lab Sense Ultras but they're really reliable in training. I'd like them to have a couple of more mm of foam in the midsole and then they'd be good for 100km/miles. I'm not sure that the SSR2's are much different to this from what i'm hearing.
Moi from Finland! My trail running shoes: Salomon S-Lab Ultra for over 100 km distances. Seth, Ultra can handle 100 miler easily. Shorter races (if I do any 😁): Salomon Sense 6 SG (maybe 7 if I need to upgrade). Sense is the best trail running shoe! It is nimble, protective and has got super grip on the sole. Wish I could run over 100 km race with Senses. Seth, use some lighter shoes (minimalistic) to strenghten your feet. I run with Luna Sandals 80% of my easy pace 1-2 hour traning runs. After Lunas all running shoes feel super soft. Get your feet strong -> avoid injuries. 👍
I am over 70, maybe 73-75 kg. I don’t measure my weight so often. I know runners who can run 100 miles in Luna Sandals and they weight over 90 kg. So weight is not the problem.
