I am all right with people calling themselves a Fur-Parent. Honestly it doesn't bother me. A lot of people have pets because whatever circumstances are not allowing them to have kids and they have the desire to care for something daily. I don't think you need to actually birth something to consider yourself the caregiver of it and take pride in that act. But like anything, there are going to be people who take it over the top. As long as they don't start allowing dogs to be claimed as dependents, I think it's a live and let live kind of situation. I think a majority of the population is not fooled and still respects the position of human-parenthood more, there's no harm lol.
