This video really goes with the web article about using a breakaway kit on your trailer. See MechanicalElements.com for the article. This is a Hopkins brand kit, and actually pretty generic -- well, they all are pretty similar. Why would you want one? What purpose do they have when you're trailer connection already has a belt and suspenders? Check out the Article because we breach those concepts there.

My breaks work with the truck controller but not when I pull the pin so weird

I agree, that sounds weird. If it is wired correctly, the trailer brakes should come on hard when the pin is pulled. At that point it should not matter if the brake controller in your truck is sending a signal or not.

@@SyEnsability i used wire tester and getting 12 v when pin is pulled my question is should I connect it directly to the trailer wire or is it OK to connect it in the junction box? Still can’t figure out why the brakes will not apply when I pull the pin.

@@robertsteele8838 Sometimes wiring issues are hard to chase. You can start with this wiring diagram from our website mechanicalelements.com/trailer-wiring-diagram/ Scroll down for specifics to breakaway. Compare the details to the schematic of your box. Good luck.

@@robertsteele8838 Actually, the behavior you mention could happen if the battery in the breakaway box is dead, or disconnected. You might want to check it.

I pull my pin I have power coming from the blue wire should I connect it directly to the blue wire going to the brakes or connect it in the junction box to the blue wire
