In this video, I start this series by giving an insight on torque and static equilibrium in order to calculate the trailer axle position for having 15% of the trailer weight on the hitch.

In the above video, the vertical reaction load at the rear axle is shown 0.85W. If i assume a value of W=10T, then 0.85W=8.5 T. Pl explain how to decide the axle rating or the axle for this value of vertical load for a triaxle.

For the small trailer, the plan is in the video for it and I bought most of the parts for it from Princess Auto. For the big trailer, I ordered parts from different places, including a local trailer shop.

The self weight of the tandem axles is not considered. Pl explain how the calculations changes with this addition of axle weight.

You should not take the tandem axles weight into consideration, they are considered unsprung weight and they do not contribute to the hitch pin weight on the back of the truck.

I agree to this. In the video is the centre of mass refers to frame only not including the axle weights. pl clarify. Hitch weight definition is 10% of GTW ( total of weight of frame+load+axle weight )Is this right.pl clarify

I am confident that the 10% hitch weight only refers to unsprung weight, so the trailer axles and tires weights are not included in the calculations. Think of a teeter totter, does the middle pivot support weight affect the way the teeter totter balance? It does not...

Hello >There, how can i Find where is the Center Of Mass in My trailer, I have a Home made Campert Trailer 1 Axle, Roof tent, water tank, cooler...... spare in the front.. I am planning to go and get it weight. as it is so to see if weights are correctly distributed, but in order to check if axle is where it should need to know the location of the Center of Mass (CM) Also will be remodeling it completly, with 4 link suspension, relocate water tank below floor, behind the axle. etc. so will be also relocating the axle, and averything.

Hi Ricardo, you can use the calculation in this video to find the centre of mass location. Essentially, you have to add the torque moment from each weight component around an arbitrary point on the trailer. The centre of mass will be the point on the trailer that all forces on the left hand side would be equal to forces on the right hand side. It is hard to explain in writing, if you are not in a hurry, I will make a video about this topic and post it online.

@@rgsabat Thanks, not in a Hurry, I got it, but have to weight the full Trailer as it is so to make sure I am counting all individual Forces. I Should have to discount the Tires and Axle as UNSPRUNG Weight. Let You Know what I get. Thanks.

Very nice ! I have a question .. why you devided the weight of the trailer into %15 in front and %85 on axles ?

You always want around 15% on the hitch to prevent the tow-behind trailer from swaying and for better weight distribution. The trailer will be a lot more stable that way.
